Chapter 15 - The Dragon and the Golden Shield

Once upon a time, there lay a beautiful kingdom by the wide river. The people worked hard, and the harvest was always plentiful. But one day, the sky turned as black as ink, and a cold, terrible wind began to blow.

From the depths of the dark mountains came the Evil Spirit. It had no fixed shape, just a swirling mass of shadow and smoke. It froze the rivers, withered the crops, and made the people sick with fear.

"We are lost!" cried the King. "This monster wants to destroy everything we love!"

Just as the darkness was about to cover the palace completely, a low and mighty sound echoed from the heavens.

ROOOOAAAAAR!

The clouds split open, and down from the sky descended a magnificent creature. He had the body of a giant serpent, the legs of a lizard, the sharp claws of an eagle, and the antlers of a great stag. Every scale upon his body shimmered like jewels.

This was the Divine Dragon, the Guardian of the Waters and the Lord of Storms.

"Fear not!" thundered the Dragon, his voice like rolling thunder. "I am the protector of this land. Evil shall not pass!"

The Evil Spirit shrieked in anger and threw lightning and ice at the Dragon. But the Dragon was not afraid.

He waved his great claws, and instantly, wind and rain appeared! He summoned a mighty storm that washed away the black fog. He breathed out golden clouds, and his light was so bright that it burned away the shadows.

"Begone!" commanded the Dragon. "I am the power of the earth and the sky! As long as I stand here, you shall never harm these people again!"

With a final burst of golden lightning, the Dragon chased the wicked spirit far away, never to return.

The sun came out again. The ice melted, and the water flowed clear and sweet. The people fell to their knees, trembling with awe and gratitude. They saw that the Dragon was indeed the symbol of supreme power, strength, and good fortune.

The King bowed low. "Thank you, Divine One. You are truly the shield of our kingdom."

The Dragon smiled gently with his wise eyes.

"I shall remain here," he said, "guarding your rivers and your skies. As long as you are just and kind, my power shall protect you forever."

And so the Dragon made his home in the deep lake near the palace, watching over the land, bringing rain in time of drought, and driving away all misfortune.

And the kingdom lived in peace and strength for all eternity.
