Chapter 21 - The Hornless Dragon of the Deep

Once upon a time, in a land of deep lakes and rushing rivers, there lived a Prince named Aldric. He was strong and kind, but he was still learning what true power meant.

For many years, the kingdom had lived in peace. But now, a terrible force known as the Frost Tyrant was spreading across the land. It was not just cold weather; it was a living darkness that froze the ground, turned water into poisonous ice, and made the people sick with fear. The evil was slowly swallowing everything, and the King's armies could not stand against its magic.

"We are defeated," said the generals sadly. "This power is too great."

But Prince Aldric remembered the ancient songs sung by the fishermen. They spoke of a mighty creature living in the deepest part of the Dragon Lake—the Jiao Long.

It was written: "It has the body of a mighty snake, yet it walks upon four strong claws. It is a true Dragon, yet it wears no horns upon its head. It is the Lord of the Waters, able to summon clouds and call forth the great tides."

"I will go and find it," said Aldric.

The journey to the heart of the lake was dangerous. The water was dark and swirling, but Aldric was not afraid. He dove into the depths, or perhaps the magic pulled him down, until he reached a hidden cavern glowing with blue light.

There, resting upon a bed of pearls and ancient stones, he saw it.

It was longer than a ship, with scales that shimmered like emeralds and obsidian. Its body was sleek and powerful like a great serpent, but it stood firmly upon four clawed feet. And indeed, upon its head, there were no horns—only smooth, powerful lines that spoke of speed and ancient wisdom.

This was the Jiao Long, the Spirit of the Water.

Aldric bowed low. "Great Guardian," he said, "my home is freezing. An evil ice is killing the world. I have come to ask for your strength."

The Jiao Long opened its eyes, which swirled like whirlpools. It did not speak, but its voice was heard in Aldric's mind like the sound of rushing water.

"I am the storm and the flood," the voice rumbled. "Where I go, the waters rise. Are you sure you want to unleash me upon your land?"

"Better to be washed clean than to freeze forever," replied Aldric firmly.

The dragon nodded slowly. It coiled its body, and then rose up, filling the cave with its presence.

Together, they returned to the kingdom. The sight was terrifying and magnificent. The Jiao Long moved with incredible speed, its four legs carrying it swiftly over land and water.

When they reached the castle, the Frost Tyrant was at its strongest. Huge ice spikes covered the walls, and a dark, freezing wind howled through the streets.

The evil spirit saw the dragon and laughed. "A hornless snake! You are no match for my power!"

The Jiao Long did not flinch. It raised its head high and let out a roar that sounded like thunder cracking the sky.

Suddenly, the sky turned dark grey. Thick, heavy clouds rolled in from nowhere. The Jiao Long was using its power—it began to summon the mists and the rain.

WHOOSH! CRASH!

A great storm broke loose. But this was no ordinary rain. It was warm, life-giving water, summoned by the Dragon's magic. Where the water touched, the ice began to melt instantly.

The Frost Tyrant screamed in rage and sent shards of ice flying towards them. But the Jiao Long was too fast. It slithered and dodged, and then, with a mighty sweep of its tail, it called forth the Great Flood.

Not a flood to destroy homes, but a tidal wave of pure, cleansing water that rolled over the land. It washed away the ice, it washed away the poison, and it washed away the darkness. The evil spirit, made of cold and nothingness, could not survive against the overwhelming power of water. It dissolved, turned into steam, and vanished forever.

Slowly, the storm clouds parted. The sun broke through. The land was wet, but it was alive again. Flowers pushed through the mud, and the rivers ran clear and free.

The people came out of their homes, cheering and crying with joy. They saw Prince Aldric standing beside the magnificent creature—the hornless dragon with four legs, who had saved them all.

The King came forward and offered the Jiao Long great treasures, but the dragon simply shook its head. It belonged to the water, and the water belonged to the world.

With a final, rumbling roar that sounded like applause, the Jiao Long turned and slid back into the deepest river, returning to its home in the lake.

But everyone knew that if evil ever returned, the Lord of the Waters would rise again to protect them.

And Prince Aldric learned that true strength is not always about having sharp horns or weapons, but about the power to cleanse, to flow, and to overcome.

And they lived happily ever after.
