Chapter 28 - Vlogging

A few weeks have passed and it is the first week of August. 25 days before the event. The cycle of my day remains the same. On weekday mornings I go to school for afternoon practice, then at 4 PM I open my business. I managed to complete the 2k that I needed, so I managed to pay it in full to my father.

Last time the deal was broken because the seller was reluctant to sell his camera for that price. So Uncle Richard told us to wait a little.

I wasn't worried about this camera not being sold. Back in my past life, this camera was sold to our neighbors for a cheap price. Uncle Richard sold it to them. There was never a time that they didn't ridicule us because of it, telling us my uncle stole it and sold it to them.

We were never even related to that deal, and we took the damage even though we never benefited from the sale. Uncle Richard earned cash while we earned ridicule? I would rather take the camera ourselves, then use it for my future.

The seller is probably a drug addict. He will sell everything just to satisfy himself. You might say,

"That I am heartless and he was suffering. Why take his item?" However, he did this to himself. This is his choice. Even if we don't take it, others will take it from him. That is the life of those who depend on these things. Their endings always look the same. Jail or life being destroyed.

Even if my uncle doesn't exist, still other providers will take everything he has. This can be a lesson to him though after losing everything.

"Brier?" I woke up from my thoughts and then I saw people looking at me. I am currently at dance practice, and Lukas was discussing something. My mind wandered a little so I didn't understand a thing.

"Yes?" I guessed the question must be yes or no.

"Okay, Brier accepted the leader position," Lukas stated. Things didn't sink in yet for me. Then everything paused when I realized what kind of danger I am in.

"So next—--"

"Wait wait wait. Stop stop, pause." I stood up and interrupted before this thing could get out of hand.

"I never agreed to be a leader. I rejected that offer last month."

"You just agreed. So moving on," he said, unwilling to listen to me.

I just sighed that there is nothing I can do. I already agreed. I've seen things for a while now and I think I can handle this much. I'll just treat this as a lesson learned.

The short meeting moved on and responsibilities were finally distributed. The leader positions and others were not distributed early to know what our strengths and weaknesses were. Having a good team composition with an incompetent leader will not succeed.

The practice ended just like that, so I was able to go home early. I am excited because my father said he'll take the camera now.

"Hehehehe!" I can't control myself from laughing. I am currently in my room looking at the camera in my hand. It is clearly a brand-new one.

I quickly opened it and tried it to see if it was clear.

"Ow, let me try vlogging with my family."

I pointed the camera toward myself.

"Wait, does this even record voice? I think some cameras don't have a microphone though." The screen showed my face clearly. A skinny kid with messy hair and tired eyes stared back at me.

"Testing… testing…" I said awkwardly. Then I stopped it and checked if there was any audio.

I pressed play then.

"Testing… testing…"

"Hehehe." Knowing that I don't need to buy another microphone, I simply can't control my smile.

Then after a few minutes,

There was silence. What will I do?

I froze.

What the hell do vloggers even say? I am quite confident with my social skills. I was a teacher in the past after all. However, speaking without talking to anyone is very new to me.

"I always thought vloggers would have it easy. Sigh, there is no easy money in this world."

I stopped, then deleted the video that I captured. It is a waste of space.

"Uh…"

Then pressed start again.

I cleared my throat.

"Hello everyone! Today we are–"

No. Too cringe. I am so embarrassed!!

I deleted it immediately.

I tried again.

"Good evening guys, this is Brier and - - - "

Delete.

Again.

"Welcome to my first vlog!"

Delete.

I rolled on the bed while holding the camera.

"What the hell is my problem!?"

After lying down for a few seconds, I sat back up.

"Okay. Calm down. I should prepare a script for now. Doing it this way is not effective."

As I began writing, after putting the title I was stuck again.

"Arghhh, so frustrating!" Then I looked out the window and saw my mother hanging the laundry. Then an idea suddenly came to my mind.

"Why not just record normal life?"

People in the future loved "slice of life" content anyway. I even saw someone content their house being built. It took about 5 years and still the house is being built.

I stood up immediately and walked outside.

The smell of food welcomed me instantly.

My father was cooking in the kitchen.

Without warning, I pointed the camera at them.

"Breaking news!" I announced it dramatically.

My father looked at me. "What stupidity are you doing now?"

"Today we discovered a rare moment in our lives. My father is cooking!!! In all of our 13 years living together, I never saw him move a single finger in the kitchen!" I said as I looked at the camera.

I could hear my mother burst out laughing outside.

My father looked offended. Veins started to appear on his forehead.

"You little give me that camera."

He chased me, and I quickly ran backward while laughing. This is good content!!

"Violence! Violence! We caught him in 4K!" I shouted while recording. I need to expand this so that I can take interest from the audience. It must never be boring.

"4K your face!" he shouted back.

"Stop bothering your father," my mother said as she entered the kitchen and took over the cooking, seeing that my father forgot about stirring it.

Then she suddenly noticed the camera more carefully.

"So this is the camera you worked hard for?"

"Yup. We are being recorded right now," I replied.

She looked at the camera and gave a wave.

"Use it properly."

I nodded.

For a few seconds, I simply recorded them naturally.

I looked at the small screen and realized something.

In my previous life, moments like this disappeared too quickly. But right now, everything is still here.

No matter what happens in the future, at least I can preserve these moments now.

My grip on the camera tightened slightly.

"Hey, you really are useful, huh?"

Then suddenly—-

"Brier! Stop recording and buy soy sauce from the store!" my mother shouted.

"Father's not doing anything, I'm working right now to be famous!" I said jokingly.

"Stop that nonsense and buy some pepper also!"

My father laughed loudly in the background.

"Famous my ass. Go buy soy sauce first."
