Chapter 43 - CHAPTER 39

Jay POV

We were all sitting in the café.

The kids were at another table with F4 and their wives while the adults sat together.

In front of me were Section E, my brothers, and the girls.

They had also sent their children away.

The atmosphere was strangely quiet.

Everyone looked nervous.

I already knew why.

I sighed.

Jay: "So... what did you want to talk about?"

Keifer looked down before looking back at me.

Keifer: "Jay... I want to tell you the truth."

I smiled sadly.

Jay: "I know."

Keifer: "No, Jay. I want to tell you why I left."

Jay: "I know that too."

Keifer: "Jay—"

Jay: "You pushed me away because your enemies were growing stronger."

Everyone froze.

Jay: "You were preparing for your entrance. You wanted to protect your brothers."

I looked directly at him.

Jay: "And you thought pushing me away was the only way to keep us safe."

Keifer's eyes widened.

Keifer: "Then... you're angry because I chose my brothers over you?"

The entire table looked shocked by the question.

I immediately stood up.

Jay: "Are you out of your mind?!"

The whole café became silent.

Jay: "I was never angry because you chose your brothers!"

My eyes filled with tears.

Jay: "I would've done the same thing!"

Keifer looked stunned.

Jay: "I was angry because you lied to me!"

My voice cracked.

Jay: "You didn't trust me enough to stand beside you."

Silence.

Nobody spoke.

For years those words had been trapped inside me.

Jay: "You decided everything yourself."

Jay: "You never gave me a choice."

Keifer's eyes turned red.

Without warning he got down on his knees.

Everyone gasped.

Keifer: "I'm sorry."

He lowered his head.

Keifer: "I'm so sorry, Jay."

Jay: "Keifer..."

Keifer: "I was scared."

His voice shook.

Keifer: "I thought if I pushed you away, you'd be safe."

A tear fell from his eyes.

Keifer: "But all I did was hurt you."

I immediately grabbed his shoulders.

Jay: "Get up."

Keifer: "Not until you forgive me."

Jay: "Keifer."

Keifer: "No."

Jay: "If you don't stand up right now, I'll never forgive you."

His head instantly snapped up.

Everyone laughed.

Keifer quickly stood.

I smiled.

Jay: "Section E..."

All of them looked at me nervously.

Jay: "...except Keifer."

Section E: "WHAT?!"

I burst out laughing.

Jay: "I'm joking."

Everyone released a breath.

Jay: "I forgive all of you."

Their eyes widened.

Jay: "And... I missed you."

The next thing I knew—

ALL OF THEM ATTACKED ME.

Jay: "WAIT—"

BOOM!

Group hug.

Jay: "I CAN'T BREATHE!"

Ci-N: "She's turning blue!"

Honey: "Move! Move!"

Everyone quickly backed away.

I fixed my hair.

Jay: "You people haven't changed at all."

They all laughed.

Ci-N: "You really forgive us?"

I smiled.

Jay: "Really."

Ci-N immediately started crying.

Jay: "Ci-N!"

Ci-N: "Shut up! Let me cry!"

Everyone laughed again.

Then I looked toward the girls.

They were standing there watching.

Waiting.

I immediately ran toward them.

Jay: "MY GIRLS!"

I hugged Freya first.

Then Ella.

Then Grace.

Then Rakki.

Then Honey.

Finally I carefully hugged Mica.

I gently placed my hand on her stomach.

Jay: "How many months?"

Mica: "Nine."

My eyes widened.

Jay: "Nine?!"

Everyone laughed.

Jay: "The baby can come any moment!"

Mica: "Tell me about it."

I smiled.

Jay: "I'm happy for you, Mica."

Before I could continue—

Freya: "Excuse me."

Ella: "Hello?"

Grace: "We're here too."

Rakki: "Stop giving special treatment."

Honey: "Exactly."

I laughed and hugged all of them again.

After a while my eyes slowly moved toward my brothers.

Angelo.

Aries.

Percy.

They were watching me.

Waiting.

I slowly stood.

Then walked toward them.

The moment I reached Angelo—

I hugged him.

And completely broke down.

Years of pain exploded out.

I cried into his shoulder.

Angelo immediately hugged me tighter.

Then I hugged Aries.

Then Percy.

Neither of them let go.

For several minutes nobody spoke.

We just stood there.

Together.

Again.

Finally—

Angelo: "Jay... did we do something wrong?"

I shook my head.

Jay: "No."

Aries: "Then why did you leave us?"

Percy: "Why didn't you come back?"

Tears filled my eyes again.

Jay: "Because I was scared."

They listened quietly.

Jay: "After everything she said..."

My voice broke.

Jay: "I didn't know what to do."

Jay: "I thought leaving was the best choice."

Percy sighed.

Percy: "You could've talked to us."

I looked at him.

Jay: "And what was I supposed to say?"

Nobody answered.

Jay: "That my own mother was saying those things?"

Jay: "Would anyone have believed me?"

The table fell silent.

Jay: "I didn't know how to tell you."

Angelo gently wiped my tears.

Angelo: "You don't have to anymore."

Aries nodded.

Aries: "She's gone."

Percy: "And she isn't entering our lives again."

I looked at all three of them.

Jay: "Really?"

Angelo: "Really."

Aries: "Really."

Percy smiled.

Percy: "Always."

For the first time in years...

I felt like I was home.

A few minutes later everyone sat down again.

The mood became lighter.

Then Angelo suddenly spoke.

Angelo: "So..."

I narrowed my eyes.

That tone never meant anything good.

Jay: "What?"

Angelo: "Who's the husband?"

I blinked.

Jay: "Whose husband?"

Angelo: "Yours."

Everyone looked at me.

Angelo: "You're obviously married."

Jay: "Who said that?"

Aries: "Then explain something."

Percy: "Yeah."

Angelo: "How are you a mother of four nine-year-old quadruplets?"

I immediately knew where this conversation was heading.

Jay: "Well..."

Aries: "Who's the father?"

My eyes slowly moved toward Keifer.

Everyone followed my gaze.

Silence.

Dead silence.

Jay: "It's..."

Keifer looked confused.

Jay: "...Keifer."

The entire world froze.

Nobody moved.

Nobody blinked.

Nothing.

Then—

Section E: "WHAT?!?!?!"

Keifer POV

I couldn't move.

I stared at Jay.

Then toward the kids.

Then back at Jay.

Pieces started connecting.

Kai's smile.

Kyle's eyes.

Kath's attitude.

Kaya's laugh.

The familiarity.

The resemblance.

Everything suddenly made sense.

My legs felt weak.

Those children...

Were mine.

For nine years.

Jay carried them.

Raised them.

Protected them.

Loved them.

Alone.

And I wasn't there.

I felt tears gathering.

Keifer: "They're... mine?"

Jay nodded.

I couldn't speak.

Jay POV

I looked toward my children.

Jay: "Kai, Kyle, Kath, Kaya."

All four looked up.

Kids: "Yes, Mom?"

I took a deep breath.

Jay: "You wanted to meet your father, right?"

They instantly sat up.

Kai: "Really?"

Kyle: "Now?"

Kath: "Where is he?"

Kaya: "Who is he?"

I looked at Keifer.

Then pointed toward him.

Jay: "That's your father."

The four kids froze.

Then—

Kai: "DAD?!"

Kyle: "NO WAY!"

Kaya: "REALLY?!"

Kath: "MOM ISN'T JOKING?!"

Everyone laughed through their tears.

Keifer opened his arms.

Slowly.

Nervously.

The children looked at each other.

Then ran.

Straight into him.

Keifer broke down crying.

Holding all four of them.

For the first time.

As a father.

The emotional reunion continued for almost an hour.

Everyone was introducing themselves.

The kids were learning about their uncles, aunts, cousins, and the huge family they never knew existed.

Then suddenly—

Aum: "Ahh!"

Everyone turned.

Jay: "Aum?"

Aum grabbed her stomach.

Then a puddle appeared beneath her.

Aum: "MY WATER BROKE!"

Instant chaos.

Jay: "Everybody move!"

Everyone jumped up.

Before we could react again—

Mica: "AHHH!"

Calix immediately rushed to her.

Calix: "MICA!"

I looked at her and instantly understood.

Jay: "You've got to be kidding me."

Mica: "THE BABY'S COMING!"

Now there were TWO women in labor.

The entire café exploded into panic.

Jay: "REN! CALL THE HOSPITAL!"

Jay: "THYME AND KEVIN, GET THE CARS!"

Jay: "MJ STAY WITH AUM!"

Jay: "CALIX DON'T LEAVE MICA!"

Everyone instantly moved.

Years of training finally paying off.

Jay: "EVERYONE ELSE CLEAR THE WAY!"

The children were hurried outside.

Cars were brought to the entrance.

Aum and Mica were carefully helped into separate vehicles.

Everyone rushed around.

The parking lot looked like a disaster zone.

Finally I turned to Keifer.

He was still holding the kids.

I smiled.

Jay: "Take care of them."

Keifer looked at the children.

Then at me.

A soft smile appeared on his face.

Keifer: "I will."

For the first time in nine years...

We looked like a family.

And then the race to the hospital began.
