He didn't pull away. Even after speaking words that would terrify anyone else, he held her as if she were the most precious thing in the universe, his embrace warm, secure, and suffocating all at once. He rested his chin on the top of her head, his hands slowly, deliberately tracing the shape of her spine through the silk of her robe, his touch so soft it was almost ghost-like, yet carrying the weight of an iron chain.
"You're so quiet," he murmured, his voice sounding pleased, calm, completely at ease after confessing thoughts that bordered on madness. "Are you overwhelmed, my love? Don't be. Everything I said… it's just proof of how much I adore you. Normal love is so shallow. It's weak. It fades. But mine? Mine is eternal. It is the only thing that is real."
He pulled back just enough to look into her face, his fingers gently tilting her chin upward. His eyes were glowing, dark pools of affection and obsession swirling together seamlessly, making it impossible to tell where one ended and the other began. He brushed his thumb over her lower lip, his gaze following the movement with hungry intensity.
"You know," he whispered, "sometimes I sit and watch you sleep for hours. I watch your chest rise and fall, I watch your eyes move beneath your lids, I listen to every little sound you make. And every single time, I think to myself: I control this. I am the reason you breathe. I am the reason your heart beats. Because if I wasn't here protecting you, loving you… you'd be gone. The world would swallow you whole. You wouldn't survive a single day without me."
He smiled softly, a tender expression that didn't quite reach the dark depths of his eyes.
"I know every single part of you. I know exactly how you like your tea. I know which songs make you smile and which ones make you sad. I know every scar, every mole, every little habit you have. I know you better than you know yourself. And because I know you so perfectly… I know what is best for you. I know who is good for you and who isn't. And honestly? Nobody is. Except me. I am the only person on this entire planet who truly loves you. Everyone else is lying. Everyone else wants something from you—your beauty, your kindness, your attention. They want to take pieces of you until there is nothing left. But me? I want all of you. And I will take it all, and keep it safe, and never let anyone else touch a single fragment of your soul."
His hands moved to rest firmly on her waist, his grip tightening just enough to make his point clear, though his expression remained sickeningly sweet.
"That's why I don't like you talking to certain people. That's why I ask you about every single conversation you have. It's not because I don't trust you—oh, never you. I trust you with my life. It's because I don't trust them. They are dirty. They are greedy. If they say something funny and you laugh… it hurts me. It makes me want to rip their tongues out. Because I am supposed to be the one who makes you laugh. I am supposed to be the source of every single emotion you feel. If you feel happiness, it must come from me. If you feel sadness, it should only be because I am sad. If you feel fear… well, the only thing you should ever be afraid of is losing me. Nothing else matters."
He leaned in closer, his nose brushing against hers, his breathing steady and calm, contrasting sharply with the horrific nature of his words.
"I've had to… handle people before, you know. People who got too close. People who didn't understand that you belong to me. There was that girl you used to work with… she kept inviting you out, whispering things in your ear, trying to take your time away from me. You were so sad when she moved away suddenly, weren't you? You cried and said you missed her… do you remember?" He chuckled softly, a low, gentle sound that sent chills straight down her spine. "I didn't tell you then, but she didn't move, darling. I made sure she disappeared. I told myself I was doing it for you. She was a bad influence. She was stealing your attention. She didn't deserve to be near something as pure as you. And honestly? Seeing you cry… even though it was over her… it was beautiful. Because it meant you were capable of feeling so deeply. But I promise you, from now on, the only tears you shed will be because of me. Whether it's tears of happiness or tears of pain… they belong to me."
He pressed a soft, lingering kiss to the corner of her mouth, his hand sliding up to tangle in her hair, holding her head perfectly still so she couldn't look away.
"And you must never think of leaving. Even for a second. Because I know you, remember? I know when you're thinking about the outside world. I see it in your eyes. And every time that happens… my heart breaks. And when my heart breaks… I get angry. Not at you, never at you… but at the world for making you curious. At the world for making you want things that aren't us. If you ever truly tried to leave, if you packed a bag or walked out that door… I don't think I could control myself. I'd drag you back inside. I'd lock every single door and weld the windows shut. I'd chain your ankle to my own so you can't take a step without me. I'd tie you to the bed and keep you there until you forgot what the sky looked like, until you forgot what fresh air smelled like, until the only thing you knew was my touch, my voice, my face."
His eyes darkened further, becoming almost black, his pupils blown wide with sheer, terrifying devotion.
"I could make you sick, you know. Just a little bit. Something that makes you weak, something that means you can't walk more than a few steps without feeling faint. Something that means you need me to carry you, to feed you, to bathe you, to breathe for you. It would be so easy. And then you'd never leave. You'd never look at anyone else because you wouldn't be able to. You'd be completely reliant on me. You'd be mine in body, mind, and survival. And I'd take such good care of you. I'd worship you. I'd treat you like a fragile, precious doll. We'd never have to worry about separation ever again."
He paused, his thumb stroking over her pulse point again, feeling the frantic rhythm beneath his skin, and a look of pure bliss crossed his face.
"I love knowing that I can make your heart race like this. I love knowing that I am the only one who can make you feel anything—fear, love, pleasure, pain. I own your heart. I own your mind. I own your life. And one day… when we are old and grey, or perhaps even sooner… if fate tries to take you from me… I won't let it. I'll kill you myself. Quietly. Peacefully. Before sickness or age or anyone else can mar your perfection. I'll preserve you. I'll keep you beautiful forever. And then I'll join you. We'll be together in death, perfectly preserved, untouched by time or anyone else. Just us. Forever and ever."
He smiled, bright and loving and completely deranged, and pulled her into a crushing embrace, burying his face in the crook of her neck, inhaling her scent deeply as if he wanted to breathe her into his lungs and keep her there forever.
"Never forget, my sweet angel… I love you more than life itself. And because of that… I will never, ever let you go. You are mine. In light and darkness. In sanity and madness. In life and in death. You are mine."
