Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Unknown Humans arrive (1)

Riven held onto the flesh of the wolf with two hands as it marched forward at insane speeds.

Every step the wolf took forward made his body sway left to right — threatening to make him fall to the ground.

But he didn't command the wolf to slow down as it was the same as committing suicide.

Riven turned around and his eyes narrowed— leaves rustling, branches swaying, a few snapping as a figure leapt from tree to tree.

It was the Powerful Vrekhar who was pursuing him…

To make matters worse, he saw from the corner of his eyes dozens of silver rods manifest all around the Powerful Vrekhar.

The Powerful Vrekhar locked onto them and sent the silver rods raining down upon them.

Riven's expression hardened as he commanded the wolf.

"Dodge."

The wolf obeyed. It moved forward, left to right, and again moved right to left dozens of times a second, evading every single rod.

The rods that missed slammed into the ground — chunks of rock and dust exploding outward, the rods lodging deep on impact.

A heartbeat later, those same rods started to dissolve into smokeless white fog. Riven inhaled a very small amount of the smokeless white fog and immediately his head began to spin.

His eyes narrowed…

A fog that could make an Awakened human dizzy couldn't be normal. He guessed that it was poisonous to those who inhaled it.

But he kept moving, easily outpacing the fog. Only the dissolving rods posed any threat — and only for a moment.

So he just had to prevent more rods from getting lodged near him.

But it was easier said than done. To prevent them he had to catch them mid-air. How he could achieve that he wasn't sure.

That is when he remembered something. He stared at the Wolf and said.

"Use your tail to catch the rod midair and throw it back to powerful Vrekhar."

In the next moment, the tail of the beast started to grow longer at unprecedented speed and then it shot towards the rods.

It grabbed one rod after another before throwing them towards another rod. Hence, neutralizing two rods at the same time.

But it was far from enough…

A lot of rods still managed to slip past the beast's tail and lodged themselves in the ground. Which dissolved into the smokeless white fog.

He had to do something else.

"This may work…"

He could use the cage one last time before his mana reserve completely dried up and used the chains to deflect the incoming silver rods.

But there was a problem — once The Cage manifested, would it expand outward from him, or stay fixed where he'd first cast it?

If the former were the case then it could be a serious problem.

But there was only one way to find out, which was to test it in action.

So he channeled the last of his mana — golden aura rising from his body, slowly expanding outward.

Before he knew it started to expand and soon engulfed the area well beyond a dozen meters far away from where the Powerful Vrekhar was.

Then a voice echoed throughout the jungle.

"Your golden chains won't be able to restrain me, slave…"

Riven pretended he didn't hear a thing and manifested dozens of chains all around him and sent them hurling towards the Powerful Vrekhar.

This time the chains didn't wrap around the Powerful Vrekhar, instead it twisted around those silver rods, catching them and throwing them back at the Powerful Vrekhar.

But not a single one managed to hit the Powerful Vrekhar. However, the powerful Vrekhar had to divert his attention to dodge them.

So because of this Powerful Vrekhar had slowed down and the distance between them widened.

As the distance between them grew, the wolf suddenly took a sharp turn right — not because he ordered but because of a reason even Riven was unaware of.

Its tail reverted to normal size, no longer deflecting the incoming rods — forcing him to compensate with the golden chains

He tilted his head and saw the Wolf was charging towards a small beast — around a meter in length.

He didn't know why the Wolf was pursuing the small beast so he gripped the flesh of the beast even more tightly and commanded.

"Continue to our previous course."

The beast didn't obey and continued pursuing the small beast. He kept issuing order after order but the wolf obeyed none. A heartbeat later, the wolf jumped onto the other beast, sinking its claws deep into its flesh and head.

The beast under its subject's claws howled loudly but it was of no use. The Wolf lowered its head and fed, tearing with its teeth, jerking its neck back to rip sections free.

And soon the howls of the small beast died, its body stopped moving as blood started to pool beneath it.

It was eating the beast and didn't look like it had any intention of stopping.

So he looked behind him and saw that the Powerful Vrekhar was just a few meters away from him.

Their sword was pointed towards his heart and he was in no condition to move let alone dodge.

Right at that instant, the entire forest trembled. The trees began to sway, the leaves started to rustle, and fell to the ground.

The ground trembled then the ground cracked. From the cracked ground a thick brown root shot towards the Powerful Vrekhar.

Before the Powerful Vrekhar could react, it slammed into their body, sending them flying a few dozen meters.

Then a figure landed from a tree landing a few cm away from the Wolf and him. Immediately, Riven's eyes locked onto the figure.

The figure's hair drifted upward like something underwater, like gravity had made a quiet exception for her alone. A black body armor covered her from shoulder to foot.

At first, Riven wanted to wrap the figure's entire body with chains as he wasn't sure if it was a foe or friend.

But just then his chains dissipate into countless golden sparks.

He didn't understand for a moment. Then he examined his body and his face darkened.

His mana reserves were almost non-existent.

Right then the figure turned around, facing him. He saw a woman staring at him with ice-cold eyes and a sinister smile then turning around once again without speaking a single word.

Riven's eyes narrowed as he asked.

"Who are you?"
