Chapter 54 - Chapter 54

Across town, the atmosphere couldn't have been more different, though the air crackled with its own distinct energy.

Priscilla leaned against the counter, her arms crossed as she eyed Fred with a mixture of suspicion and genuine concern. He was sitting on the stool, resting his weight carefully on his good leg, trying to look like he never hit his foot on the door luckily he didn't hit his foot that it caused him so much pain and still Priscilla was concerned.

"I'm asking you for the third time, Fred," Priscilla said, narrowing her eyes. "How is the foot actually doing? And don't give me that 'it's fine' garbage because I saw how you limped coming in here."

Fred grinned, leaning his elbow casually on the table. "My leg is healing like a masterpiece, Pris. Honestly, the doctors are baffled. They're probably going to write a medical journal about my rapid cellular regeneration." Fred said joking.

"Stop joking," she scolded, stepping closer and giving his shoulder a light, exasperated shove. "I'm serious. You were complaining of why pain existed, and if you tear those ligaments again because you refused to sit still, I am personally going to duct-tape you to that chair."

Fred chuckled, his eyes softening as he looked up at her. "Are you taking notes from a drill sergeant? Because your concern is borderline aggressive."

"My concern is warranted because you have the survival instincts of a golden retriever running toward oncoming traffic," Priscilla snapped back, though the corner of her mouth twitched. "Just tell me the truth. Does it still throb when it rains?"

"Only when the weather matches your dramatic mood," Fred teased, raising an eyebrow with a slow, playful smirk. "Though I have to admit, it's entirely worth the injury to watch you pace around the house like an anxious mother hen."

Priscilla rolled her eyes so hard she nearly strained them, fighting back a smile. "You are infuriating. I was actually trying to be nice."

"And you failed miserably, because you can't hide the fact that you adore me," Fred said smoothly, shifting his weight and smiled looking at his wife, she was a nice woman and he appreciated that.

"Well yes I adore you, who else would I adore?, her voice dropping into a soft, genuine note of care as she adjusted his footrest for him.

"Our three sons, priscilia, Fred said reminding her.

"you are right, she said a smile on her lips.

Fred looked down at her hands, his teasing grin melting into something much warmer. "Though you should adore me more since we have each other, Fred said.

"Alright, I will, Priscilla said.

In the lavish home of silas, Silas rested his head on the sofa, staring out at the distant lights.

Just the thought of Catelyn sent a sharp, hollow pang through him.

Catelyn.

Had she truly felt nothing for him? Not even a flicker of the love that consumed his every waking thought? He had loved her—deeply, fiercely—and the silence she left behind was deafening. Every corner of the penthouse still seemed haunted by the ghost of her laughter, the way she used to curl up on that very sofa, the effortless rhythm they had built together. The bond they had shared was now completely severed, leaving him adrift in a world that suddenly felt entirely gray.

He was drowning in the absence of her.

He closed his eyes, his fists clenching against the soft sofa. He would tear down walls, cross oceans, and burn his pride to the ground if it meant bringing her back into his life. He knew that with absolute certainty. But the most terrifying part of it all was knowing she was completely unaware of how much power she held over his survival—and that, perhaps, she simply didn't care.

The heavy mahogany conference room door clicked shut with a sharp, definitive sound, and Aaron strode down the private executive corridor, his mind already shifting gears into high performance. Walking stride-for-stride beside him was his executive secretary, Isabella.

Isabella was undeniably striking—her sharp, patrician features framed by sleek, glossy black hair that caught the overhead recessed lights with a polished sheen. She wore a tailored royal blue blazer and a matching pencil skirt that projected absolute corporate confidence, each step she took measured and purposeful against the marble-lined floor.

As they walked, they seamlessly transitioned into a dense, high-level corporate debrief.

"Sir, the Q3 logistics reports have finally cleared from the overseas ports," Isabella stated, her voice clear, crisp, and completely controlled as she held her sleek tablet at the ready. "Shipping costs increased by four percent due to the unexpected fuel tariff adjustments, but the supply chain remains uninterrupted and our freight forwarders have guaranteed delivery schedules for next month. Furthermore, the tech division has finalized the roadmap for the upcoming automation rollout; they are requesting your immediate sign-off on the capital allocation so procurement can begin ordering the server hardware by Tuesday."

Aaron slowed his pace slightly, his gaze sharp, analytical, and entirely focused on the mechanics of the enterprise. "Make sure the legal team double-checks the warranty stipulations and indemnity clauses on those hardware vendors," Aaron instructed, his deep voice echoing slightly in the corridor. "I want guaranteed full replacements if any batch fails quality control or encounters customs delays. Schedule a thirty-minute sync with the head of tech for tomorrow morning at nine, and have legal send the finalized drafts directly to my secure inbox."

"Understood, Mr. Wayne," Isabella replied, her expression a mask of professional poise. She offered a crisp, respectful nod before turning gracefully toward her office wing, her mind entirely locked onto executing his commands with absolute precision.
