Chapter 21 - To the rescue

Despite knowing we were going as a group, my heart still hammered in my chest as we rode atop Ryukyu.

On one hand, I was getting to ride a freaking dragon! On the other hand, we were riding towards a city of fire that was full of Nomu. The only silver lining I could find as of right now was the fact that none of these were as strong as the monster from the USJ.

They were still much stronger than the average hero and could kill us if we weren't careful. That was why Ryukyu had called almost all of her sidekicks. After seeing the heroes getting overwhelmed on TV, she'd gotten a large group together, and we were now riding/ flying through the air as fast as we could.

Momo had used the brief time before we took off to make as many comm devices as she could. We were able to stay connected that way as we got close enough to the city to see the fires. Passing the outskirts, we saw a derailed train, but ignored it as we followed the screams.

"Team A, keep the skies clear with me. Team B, evacuate civilians and injured heroes. Team C, take out as many creatures as you can. Nejire, Micah, and Momo are authorized to use their quirks for combat." Ryukyu's deep voice boomed as we hit the ground.

The three of us leaped from her back and hit the ground running. Nejire and I lunged for the closest Nomu as Momo started making first aid supplies. She'd already made several first-aid kits on the way and helped Team B to keep those with the worst injuries stable.

Ryukyu had already taken to the skies again with Team A as they cleared the skies of winged Nomu. They were the smallest team since only four other sidekicks could fly, but their coordination showed just how dangerous they were.

Team C was the largest, and already was showing great results as several injured heroes were able to disengage as they filled in the gaps. Nejire and I were like a whirlwind of destruction as they spearheaded the assault.

Since the Nomu were mindless monsters that only attacked with physical might or straightforward emitter quirks, they were able to figure out a quick way to destroy them. Using either Nejire's wave attacks or another sidekick's quirk, they pinned a Nomu to the ground so that I could burn them to ash.

Normally, people would complain about such brutality, but upon seeing the dozens of bodies left behind by the Nomu, any sense of mercy vanished from their hearts as they burned any Nomu they could.

I didn't sit back and use my flames only. I was also right at the front, finally getting to use the Guardian shield to great effect, tanking blows to give others a chance to land hits. I also used Rasaka's Fang to great effect, merely nicking the Nomu to paralyze them before burning them.

I also made good use of Desperation and Corpus Weapon. The first made sure I had enough strength to keep the various Nomu occupied, drawing their attention towards me so that others could land blows or escape.

The second was able to exhaust the Nomu, who nearly fell over by themselves. Paired with Rasaka's Fang, it was a deadly combination as they carved through the Nomu. All the while, I kept having to ignore the Gacha pinging in the back of my mind as he earned more tickets.

I did still worry about Ida, however. Knowing that he was fighting Stain was not sitting well, and I had to keep reminding myself that if I left this battle to go find him, I'd be dooming others to death.

After setting another Nomu alight, I looked over my shield and saw there were no Nomu right in front of me. Seeing a pillar of fire down the block told me why. "Start getting people to safety!" One of the senior sidekicks called out as we got to work clearing the street.

Working together, Nejire and I were able to clear the rubble from the Nomu crashing into buildings. This opened the street so people could more easily reach the medical tent with Team B.

We also found plenty of people trapped under rubble, as well as bodies of those who didn't make it. We carefully laid them out and covered them up to not cause a panic as another pillar of fire erupted a few blocks away.

'Must be Endeavor. I guess he's about to catch the Hero Killer.' I thought grimly as I watched Ryukyu bank towards the fire, probably to investigate. I was still mildly worried about Ida, Shoto, and Izuku, but with Endeavor present, they should be safe.

"Hey Micah, come help me with this!" Nejire called out, and I jogged over to help her lift a chunk of concrete. Another sidekick reached under the slab and brought out what Nejire was trying to save, a trio of kittens.

"They're so adorable!" She cried as she almost let go of the slab. She realized where she was, thankfully, as we carefully set it back down before inspecting the kittens. They were adorable. I didn't know what sex they were just yet, but their pitiful eyes nearly knocked me out.

We couldn't tell what color they were yet since the poor things were covered in soot and dust, so we left them in the medical tent for now as we kept searching for more people to save. We'd already found the ones in this area, so now we were going farther as we herded all the people we could find to the safe zone.

Realizing we had gotten closer to where the last pillar of fire had erupted from, I took to the air to see if I could spot anything. "IDA WATCH OUT!" I shouted as loudly as I could as I dove towards him.

Just as I'd peeked over the building before us, I found Endeavor and a few other heroes escorting an injured Stain away from Ida and the others. Stain had suddenly gotten free and was lunging for the still-exhausted Ida.

My shouting managed to reach a few people below, Shot being one of them, as he reacted in time and threw down an ice wall between them and Stain. Normally, it would be nothing for the Hero Killer to scale, but being injured slowed him down enough that Endeavor was able to catch up to him and slam him back into the concrete.

Touching down, I formed chains of fire and wrapped them around the Hero Killer, not wanting to take chances anymore as Nejire caught up to me. Ryukyu also hovered closer as Endeavor nodded at me.

I stayed with them, keeping an eye on Stain until the police came to pick him up. While I was busy with that, Nejire was filling Ryukyu in on all we had done as well as getting her to call in more medical support since Team B was starting to get overwhelmed.

Once Stain was finally taken away, I let myself relax slightly as I made sure nothing was too damaged on the boys. Ida had obviously gotten the worst of it since he'd gone looking for the Hero Killer, but Izuku and Shoto hadn't gotten away much better.

Both Shoto and Izuku had a few minor lacerations along their limbs, with both costumes torn in several places from where Stain had tried to rip them apart. Ida's costume was basically for show at this point since Stain had nearly torn him apart. He'd almost killed him before Izuku stepped in.

After the three of them were taken to the hospital for their injuries, Nejire, Ryukyu, and I regrouped with the other sidekicks and stayed up well into the night to make sure everyone was safe. We even had to apprehend a few idiot looters who tried to take advantage of the chaos.

By the time we were finally cleared to return to the agency, it was nearly 8 A.M the next day. Ryukyu was kind enough to let Nejire, Momo, and me rest on her back as we flew back, as I checked out the various tickets I'd gotten.

[Congratulations on defeating 1 low-tier Nomu. You get 1 Random Silver Ticket!]

[Congratulations on defeating 10 low-tier Nomu. You get 1 Random Gold Ticket!]

[Silver Spoon]

Common Item

A spoon made of pure silver, directly personally blessed by the heavenly god, is extremely lethal against vampires, ghouls, werewolves, and similar beings. Also doubles as cutlery.

'Eh, mostly useless, but could come in handy in another world. I'd have to leave this one first, though. Now roll the two Silver Tickets.'

[Puss]

Uncommon Familiar

Puss in Boots - Puss is an anthropomorphic cat clad in his signature boots, belt, hat, and rapier. Puss is quite agile and relatively strong for his size. Paired with his skill in bladed weapons and combat experience, he is a formidable combatant. In addition, Puss has 9 lives; whenever he experiences a mortal wound, he is restored to full condition and loses a life.

[Aries]

Rare Familiar

Fairy Tail - Aries is a Celestial Spirit, representing the Aries Constellation. Aries, while not a very skilled melee combatant, is a master in wool magic, being able to conjure and control wool. As a Celestial Spirit, she is unable to be killed by normal means, and her power scales with her owners. (Celestial spirits exist in Familiar Space instead of the Celestial Realm by default.)

Getting two more familiars was definitely a plus! Puss would be a great help; he could probably get along well with Nezu. I would definitely find a way to bring him into this world. Aries was another problem.

I was really familiar with the Fairy Tail world, but she could still be useful. I would probably bring her to Nezu so that she could integrate into this world. Her appearance should give her some points, as well as her wool magic.

'Best for last! Spin the Gold!'

[IX - The Hermit]

Uncommon Item

Tarot Card - Allows you to read the minds and thoughts for 1 hour. 120 Hour Cooldown

I guess it could be useful? Not really sure just yet, maybe in the future, but I'll have to see. For now, I just want to get back to the agency so that I can sleep, since we've gone the entire night without any rest.
