Chapter 750: Misaki Shokuhou: Big Problem, Ren, Save Us!!
She originally thought it was already exaggerated enough that four Level 5s were gathered here in this desolate container yard. The air was thick with the scent of ozone and impending violence.
Suddenly, a strong wind swept through, unnatural and cutting, carrying with it a pressure that made the skin crawl.
"Hahahaha!"
A boisterous, arrogant laugh came from the sky, echoing off the metal shipping containers.
Everyone looked up instinctively.
What they saw was a blonde man, descending like a fallen angel. Six magnificent white wings sprouted from his back, not made of feathers, but of a strange, shifting substance that seemed to defy the ambient light. He flapped them once, generating a shockwave, and flew towards them.
He landed steadily on top of a stack of containers, stirring up another gust of wind that sent dust swirling around the standoff.
He retracted his wings, the strange matter folding into itself.
Kakine Teitoku's gaze swept over everyone present with a look of utter disdain. He adjusted his suit jacket, looking more like a thug than a student, and muttered aloud, ticking them off like items on a grocery list.
"The Fifth-Ranked Level 5, Mental Out—Misaki Shokuhou."
"The Fourth-Ranked Level 5, Meltdowner—Mugino Shizuri."
"The Third-Ranked Level 5, Railgun—Misaka Mikoto."
"And you..."
His gaze finally fixed on the frowning albino standing amidst the wreckage.
"The First-Ranked Level 5, Accelerator."
"!!!"
Below, Kinuhata Saiai was dumbfounded. The color drained from her face as she stepped back, her bravado vanishing instantly.
"Four... four Level 5s?"
Make them kill everyone? Was that the plan?
To gather the monsters of Academy City in one place... And the First, Second, Third, Fourth, and Fifth ranks... How could they possibly survive this? This wasn't a battle; it was a natural disaster waiting to happen.
"No... it's five."
Takitsubo Rikou, usually lethargic, watched Kakine Teitoku with a grave expression. Her eyes, capable of seeing AIM Diffusion Fields, were overloaded by the sheer density of power radiating from the man on the container. "The AIM field... it's unlike anything recorded."
Mugino Shizuri also reined in her madness for the first time. The glowing green orbs of destructive energy floating around her dimmed slightly as she assessed the threat.
"The Second-Ranked Level 5, Dark Matter... Kakine Teitoku... Why are you here too?!"
Kakine Teitoku glanced at her and sneered, his eyes filled with mockery. "ITEM, you guys didn't just receive the task from above either, did you? Don't tell me you thought you were special."
"You too?!" Mugino grit her teeth, her pride stung.
"Heh heh."
Kakine Teitoku's expression turned grim beneath his smirk.
He completely didn't understand what the Chairman of the Board wanted to do now. To actually gather the top five Level 5s, who normally wouldn't even meet, in one place. It was unprecedented.
Was it for a battle to the death? A selection process? Or was he simply trying to clean house?
Accelerator was truly annoyed. He scratched his head, his red eyes narrowing dangerously. He was tired of these interruptions.
"One after another, you small fry keep popping out. Are you trying to die?"
Boom!
The ground beneath him shattered. His figure suddenly vanished as if teleporting, propelled by instant vector manipulation.
When he reappeared, he was already in front of Kakine Teitoku, suspended in mid-air. With a sadistic grin, he swung his fist—backed by the kinetic energy of a freight train—towards Kakine's face.
"Tch!"
Kakine Teitoku clicked his tongue, unhurriedly.
Whoosh!
The unfolded white wings snapped forward, easily blocking the fist. There was no sound of impact, no shockwave. The kinetic energy simply... vanished.
???
Accelerator was stunned. His eyes widened slightly.
His ability—Vector Control—had no effect when it hit those chicken wings. The vectors he sent into them didn't reflect; they didn't even disperse. They just ceased to function as vectors.
"Aren't you surprised?"
Kakine Teitoku grinned, seeing the confusion on the monster's face.
"You wouldn't really think you're Academy City's strongest Level 5 forever, would you?"
"Hahahaha, you're just a chess piece coincidentally chosen by Academy City's true controller. But I am different."
Kakine spread his arms, the six wings expanding majestically, casting a strange shadow over the port.
"What I've created is Dark Matter. It is matter that does not exist in this world until I create it. Your vectors have no effect on me because they don't know what I am."
The "Dark Matter" that Kakine Teitoku produced was a substance that defied the laws of physics. It wasn't "yet to be discovered" or "theoretically should exist"; it was something truly non-existent in this universe.
Therefore, it did not apply to existing physical laws.
Light waves and electron waves, as long as they passed through the tiny gaps on his white wings, would change their properties, twist into impossible vectors, and act according to their own laws—laws defined solely by Kakine Teitoku.
This was also why Accelerator's current ability was ineffective against his wings. Accelerator could control any vector he understood, but he couldn't control something that operated on alien logic.
"What?"
Shock flashed in Accelerator's eyes. For the first time in a long time, his calculations returned an error.
The next second, his face twisted in pain.
Bang!
His entire body was sent flying by the vibrating force of the white wings. It wasn't a simple push; it was an omnidirectional blast of redefined physics.
Rumble!
Accelerator's body crashed through more than a dozen steel shipping containers, tearing through them like paper, before finally stopping in a cloud of dust and twisted metal.
"What exactly is going on?"
Misaka Mikoto watched in horror, her hands trembling slightly. The 1 was blown away? Just like that? She also realized that something was fundamentally wrong with this situation. This wasn't a skirmish; it was an execution.
Misaki Shokuhou twitched her lips, her fan covering the lower half of her face to hide her anxiety. "Didn't you hear just now? The Fourth-Ranked and Second-Ranked came because of a certain mission."
!!!
Misaka Mikoto's pupils contracted sharply.
At such a coincidental time, with all the pieces falling into place, she could only think of one person. The urban legend. The ruler of this city.
Aleister Crowley...
Only this Chairman of the Board, whom Ren had mentioned as having immense power and absolute control over Academy City, could orchestrate such a thing. He was playing them like pawns on a chessboard.
"We... have been targeted," Mikoto whispered, the realization chilling her to the bone.
Misaki Shokuhou pouted, though her eyes remained sharp: "You just noticed! I've been saying this place is a trap!"
She had already called for help in the Chat Group the moment Kakine appeared. Her mental calculations told her their survival rate was plummeting by the second.
[Misaki Shokuhou: Ren, help! Emergency!]
Meanwhile, in another world.
Ren, who was comfortably lounging on a sofa holding the sleeping Canaria and Leticia in his arms, opened his eyes. The warmth of the two girls was comforting, but the notification in his mind demanded attention.
Misaki Shokuhou's cry for help? That was rare. The Queen usually handled things herself.
[Aqua: What's so urgent?]
[March 7th: Encountered Doom? Is it a Stellaron?]
[Ch'en: That shouldn't be the case, because the Doomsday Companion's prompt hasn't appeared yet.]
[Misaki Shokuhou: Uh, it's not Doom, it's just that I feel that Misaka Mikoto and I are in a very dangerous situation right now, and we might have been targeted by Academy City's Chairman of the Board, Aleister.]
[Busujima Saeko: Aleister... if I remember correctly, Ren-kun warned you about him before as a very dangerous guy.]
[Misaki Shokuhou: That's right. He's worse than dangerous; he's invisible.]
[Erza Scarlet: What's the specific situation?]
[Misaki Shokuhou: This involves two plans...]
She hastily typed out the details, introducing the Level 6 Shift Experiment and the Sisters Project to the others, her fingers moving as fast as her mind.
[Exusiai: Cl-clones?! Twenty thousand of them?]
[Silver Wolf: Tch, foolish experiment. Sounds like something a chaotic script kiddie would come up with.]
[Vivi: It feels... so cruel. Creating life just to destroy it?]
[Ais Wallenstein: Can you get stronger by killing twenty thousand people?]
[Ren: Fake.]
Ren's message cut through the speculation instantly.
[Ren: Twenty thousand clones are just weaklings, roughly Level 2. It's quantity over quality, and the math is flawed.]
[Ren: If killing a large number of weaklings can make one strong, then if I destroy countless universes now, can I become invincible? It doesn't work that way.]
[Ren: By the way, I can indeed do that. But that's not the point.]
[Ais Wallenstein: ...]
[Emilia: Then why would such an obviously impossible thing lead to such a cruel experiment?]
[Tatsumaki: Hmph, scientists are all damned lunatics, a bunch of idiotic bugs! They always think they know better than actual power.]
[Uzumaki Kushina: Agreed. Playing with life is disgusting.]
[Durandal: Perhaps some researchers believe in this, but I always feel that these two plans don't seem that simple. If the Chairman is involved, there must be a deeper layer.]
[Ren: Durandal, you are right.]
[Misaki Shokuhou: ???]
[Misaki Shokuhou: Could it be that what I know isn't the whole truth?]
[Ren: The true person behind these two plans is Aleister, and he's not interested in Absolute Level 5s or Level 6s or anything like that. That's just a smokescreen.]
[Kiana Kaslana: Ah, clones... just like me.]
Kiana, as K423, felt this deeply. The pain of being a copy, a weapon, resonated with her.
[Tingyun: This humble one is a bit confused as to why Miss Misaka Mikoto handed over her DNA in the first place.]
[Misaka Mikoto: I...]
Misaka Mikoto pursed her lips, staring at the holographic screen in front of her retina while chaos unfolded around her. Guilt washed over her again.
She had never thought things would turn out this way. She was just a child trying to help cure a disease.
[Ren: Don't ask about such things. The past is the past.]
[Ren: What's the situation on your side right now?]
[Misaki Shokuhou: The First, Second, and Fourth-Ranked Level 5s suddenly appeared, and... their hostility is very strong. They all mentioned a mission from above to eliminate variables.]
[Ren: Heh, that should be Aleister's doing then. He's trying to clean up the board.]
Ren gently shifted Leticia's sleeping form to a more comfortable position and stood up, his aura changing from relaxed to sharp.
[Ren: I'll go take a look.]
