Vael let out a breath he had not realized he had been holding and sank into the nearest chair, his head falling forward and his hands coming up to rub his temples. Harder.
Theon watched him for a moment, then crossed the room to stand beside him.
"Are you all right, Vael?" he asked quietly.
Vael laughed. It was a short, humorless sound. "I don't know. I honestly don't know."
"The plan worked," Theon said. "Better than we could have hoped."
Vael looked up at him, his eyes dark with exhaustion. "I know. But I have this feeling, this is not over. Lucious and Julio won't back down easily. You know how they are?"
Theon's expression flickered. "I know. But it wasn't for nothing." Theon said firmly. "The plan worked. Lucious is disgraced. They are banned from the council. The wedding is still on. Everything is fine."
"You're right." Vael stared at his Beta for a long moment. Then, slowly, he nodded. "Everything is fine." He said.
For now.
