Chapter 42 - Skull-Splitting Gale

"Tell me, who is it?!" Levi demanded coldly.

"Wh-what are you talking about? I really, really just slipped up..." the young Enforcer babbled incoherently. It was hard to tell if he was just guilty or genuinely terrified of Levi.

"Forget it, I know even if you don't say it! It's probably 'Fatty' Aubrey and the Iron Fist Gang backing him, right? Who else would want me dead right now?"

The Iron Fist Gang? Wasn't that the most notorious Zaunite gang in Piltover?

Everyone frowned in unison.

The illusions held by many in the room shattered along with this sudden turn of events.

This was especially true for Viktor and Seraphine.

One was accustomed to the civilized, enthusiastic demeanor the Enforcers displayed toward him as a university professor. The other had barely ever left her house, naively believing the Enforcers were the flawless, righteous faction straight out of a fairy tale.

Everyone had assumed that as long as Levi cooperated with law enforcement, any issues could be resolved through proper channels later.

But the reality was:

"You aren't here to enforce the law at all—"

"You took dirty money from the Iron Fist Gang to carry out an illegal 'execution' on me!"

Only then did Levi realize he had been even more foolish than Seraphine.

'Right, how could I have missed it... How could a vicious Zaunite gang like the Iron Fist Gang establish a foothold in Piltover without the tacit approval and support of the Enforcers?'

'They didn't even need to retaliate against me personally. They just had to send a few dirty cops like you, operating under the guise of impartial law enforcement, to openly eliminate me.'

"The suspect resisted, and the police misfired—"

"Heh, sounds perfectly reasonable, doesn't it!"

Enforcers "accidentally killing" Zaunites was never news. But witnessing this cliché story unfold right before their eyes evoked an entirely different feeling.

Seeing Levi's plight and hearing his explanation of the cause and effect, the Zaunite students present were filled with indignation.

These Enforcers always treated Zaunites as potential criminals, claiming they were the ones ruining Piltover's public order.

Yet behind the scenes, they were in cahoots with Zaunite gangs?

The students felt a mix of empathetic sorrow and intense outrage. Their grief fueled their anger, and that anger demanded an outlet through rebellion.

Levi could sense everyone's faith rapidly firming up again. Even a few students who weren't officially members yet were faintly drawing threads of faith toward him.

Of course, this situation likely wasn't just born of anger.

It was also because...

Levi's fearless demeanor in the face of danger, his aura of an otherworldly master, and his transcendent divine power to effortlessly control the storm had brought hope of victory and confidence to fight to the students who had been cowering and wavering at gunpoint.

Seeing that Levi could easily handle even the Enforcers, those who had been worried about their personal safety and wavering in their stance finally swung firmly to the side of the Windguides.

As a result, everyone shared a bitter hatred for the enemy, their gazes turning resolute.

"Ahem... Everyone, please calm down," the veteran officer leading the squad had no choice but to step forward, cold sweat beading on his forehead. "We merely received orders from our superiors to come here and... ask Mr. Levi to come back with us to assist in an investigation."

"The one who just shot at you is merely a rookie. He absolutely did not fire at you on purpose. Calling us 'dirty cops' is a bit much."

"Is that so?" Levi stared coldly at the young Enforcer, whose face had already turned pale. "When this guy shot at me, his breathing was perfectly steady. Now that he sees I'm not dead, he's so nervous his heart is about to leap out of his chest."

"Mr. Enforcer, can you truly guarantee your subordinate isn't a dirty cop?"

The veteran officer's expression shifted rapidly.

He secretly glanced at the guilt-ridden young Enforcer, but ultimately bit the bullet and said, "It's a misunderstanding, it's all a misunderstanding... We still hope you can cooperate and come back with us for the investigation so we can clear things up."

What a joke!

After something like this, how could Levi possibly cooperate with the investigation?

The Enforcers and the Iron Fist Gang were clearly in this together. If he naively went back with them, wouldn't that be like diving a turret 1v5 and intentionally feeding?

"Professor Viktor, Seraphine, I'll leave my sister in your care for now."

"Also, students, don't forget the things we discussed. I believe that even if I can't be present for a while, you will definitely be able to make our 'business' grow bigger and stronger."

Levi didn't hesitate to give his "final instructions," then turned around, ready to leave.

Yes, he was going to make a run for it.

He had no choice but to run.

Earlier, he had commanded the air currents, manipulated the gale, and bathed in a hail of bullets without taking a single scratch... It looked incredibly domineering and effortlessly cool. He made it seem as if the Unforgiven himself had arrived.

But in reality, that level of wind magic was already the absolute limit of what Levi could currently achieve.

If these Enforcers realized the truth—that they only needed to call for a bit more backup and fire a few more magazines to break the defenses of this "transcendent powerhouse"...

Then Levi wouldn't be able to escape even if he wanted to.

He had to slip away now while they were still too intimidated to make a move.

"What?"

"You still want to keep me here?"

Levi maintained the arrogant demeanor of an otherworldly master, adopting the imposing aura of a legendary hero breaking through a deadly siege, and walked toward the Enforcers with a disdainful glare.

The Enforcers were so tense they kept gulping.

For every step Levi took forward, they took a step back.

When they backed up to the classroom door and truly had nowhere left to retreat, they naturally parted for him like the Red Sea before Moses.

The human wall blocking his path was parted just like that.

But before Levi could leave, he noticed that behind the parted human wall, someone hadn't moved out of the way. Someone was still standing in front of him.

The female Enforcer who had originally been hiding at the very back of the squad had now become the vanguard blocking Levi's escape.

"Move!" Levi barked coldly.

But the young, fair-skinned, and inexperienced policewoman was far more resolute and courageous than her seniors and superiors. "Mr. Levi, please stay."

"Please trust us Piltover Enforcers..." As she spoke, she cast a thoughtful glance at her colleague whose gun had "nervously misfired." "No matter what hidden circumstances lie behind this, we will investigate thoroughly and bring the truth to light."

The pretty policewoman's tone was incredibly firm, sounding very reassuring. It was as if as long as Levi surrendered without a fight and obediently followed legal procedures, she would definitely get him justice.

But how could Levi believe her?

One look at her slightly immature, youthful face was enough to tell she was just a rookie.

How could such an overly naive rookie Enforcer, who couldn't even see the reality of the world clearly, uphold justice for anyone?

"Stay? Stay and wait for death?"

"I've already experienced your 'justice'."

Levi took another step forward.

But the female Enforcer didn't retreat.

She stood firmly blocking the doorway and raised her rifle. "Please do not take another step forward, Mr. Levi!"

"Are you sure?" Levi narrowed his eyes, acting the part of a master.

He planned to just scare her off. Or perhaps charge forward and cleanly take her out with a swift combo.

But right at that moment...

The veteran officer shouted nervously, "Miss Caitlyn, please don't do anything rash!"

"Caitlyn?" Levi paused slightly.

The name sounded a bit familiar.

Then he heard Caitlyn say, "I'm sorry, sir. I must fulfill my duty as an Enforcer."

"Mr. Levi—forgive me."

As soon as she finished speaking, the young female Enforcer named Caitlyn pulled the trigger without hesitation.

With a loud *bang*, a muzzle flash bloomed once more.

But what shot out of the barrel this time wasn't a bullet, but...

A rope net?

"Damn it!" Levi remembered. "It really is her!"

She was also a champion character from the game, [Sheriff of Piltover・Caitlyn].

He was so used to seeing her swimsuit skins that he genuinely didn't recognize her at first glance in a standard Enforcer uniform.

"Updraft!"

Seeing the rope net about to envelop him from above, Levi immediately repeated his old trick, shaping the gale into an invisible wind wall in front of him.

The powerful air current blew the expanding net askew. Before the large net could even touch Levi's body, it fluttered and trembled in the slipstream, tangling into a messy ball before falling powerlessly to the floor.

Levi seemed to have effortlessly neutralized the enemy's attack once again. Every movement he made was brimming with the demeanor of a master.

But while he summoned the air currents to block the rope net, Caitlyn hadn't been idle either.

Like a hunter remaining calm in the face of danger, she used the recoil from firing the rope net to gracefully bound backward. At the same time, she swiftly adjusted the mechanism on her rifle, changing its firing mode.

*Bang!*

Another gunshot rang out.

This time, what flew toward him seemed to be just an ordinary bullet, aimed only at Levi's thigh—a non-lethal area.

Levi instinctively wanted to continue using the wind wall to block it, and this move seemed like it would still work.

But the moment the bullet made contact with the air current, in the instant it trembled violently and was about to veer off course...

The bullet "exploded."

It wasn't an ordinary bullet at all, but a sharp blade compressed into the shape of a bullet!

The bullet's outer shell instantly shattered and disintegrated, and its core rapidly unfolded into a broad, razor-sharp blade with the speed of a thunderbolt!

The blade tore through the air, ripping through the atmosphere like an iron plow pressing toward his face.

"Is this the 'Piltover Peacemaker'?!" Levi recognized the move.

"Crap!" But recognizing it was useless.

His low-budget wind wall could only deflect the trajectory of bullets; it couldn't completely block projectiles.

Now, the opponent's bullet had indeed been deflected, but the bullet had transformed into a blade, increasing its attack range.

No matter how fast Levi dodged, it was inevitable that he would be grazed by the edge of this flying blade.

Although that level of injury was within an acceptable range and he could continue fighting even if wounded, the problem was...

He couldn't afford to get hurt right now!

The moment he got hurt, those Enforcers would know his strength was limited.

The confidence he had painstakingly built up for his students would inevitably crumble along with it.

So he had to win.

And he had to win with style!

'Uh... wait.'

In that split second, Levi suddenly realized something.

If it was just about looking stylish... then taking a little damage didn't seem to matter.

After all, there were different ways to be stylish.

Mages had their elegance, but warriors had their own romance.

"Then let's go!" In that moment, Levi completely abandoned his defense and gave up on dodging.

He imbued his fists with the power of the storm and charged rapidly forward, straight into the path of the blade.

The blade slashed Levi's arm.

But a fierce gale also howled to life at that exact moment.

However, this wind didn't appear around Levi. Instead, borrowing the natural draft blowing through the classroom door, it materialized behind Caitlyn.

As Levi charged toward Caitlyn against the blade, a storm violently shoved Caitlyn toward him.

He used the wind to catch Caitlyn off guard and "pull" her in:

"Skull-Splitting Gale!"
