Sienna took a slow breath, gathering the courage she had been searching for all day.
"There's something I want to tell you," she said softly. "About my past..."
Tension and worry filled Zachary's eyes as he asked, "What is it?"
"Zach, this might surprise you once you hear it…" Sienna began, holding his gaze.
The tension in her chest was so overwhelming that it felt as though something heavy were pressing against her, making her completely nervous.
Even so, she forced herself to continue.
"In the past, my father became seriously ill and needed major surgery. We had no money left, and there wasn't any property we could sell to pay for it. So I did something to help him. I signed an agreement to earn money quickly…"
She paused to take a deep breath and tightened her grip on his hand when she noticed that he showed no reaction.
'Is he angry? Why doesn't he look surprised or frightened by what I'm trying to tell him?' she wondered, trying to read his expression.
