Chapter 1 - In another world with Codex Umbra

Oliver Black is a typical high-school student in oridinary school of england, he is average in sports and academics, has neither positive nor negative traits, he is just an ordinary schoolboy that can be found anywhere.

But there's one place where this ordinary schoolboy is an extraordinary figure, that is "Don't Starve" game. In this dark fantasy survival game, Oliver is a pro, having crafted all structures, items and even taken down various foes, he also survive for more than 100 days in game.

The game allow one to play as any character provided by game, Oliver managed to beat the game with every character, he also played every DLCs of the game as well as played "Don't starve together" game which is sequel to original game.

One day, he was returning from school to home as usual, since there is not much distance between home and school, Oliver usually walk from home to school and vice-versa.

Suddenly a truck coming straight to Oliver, but be managed to dodge it, narrowly escaping his death.

{Sigh in relief} That was close, I was about to die in that accident with truck.

But just as Oliver felt relief on escaping his death, he is suddenly hit by an ambulance rushing to the scene, knocking him to a nearly wall, injuring him severely.

{Sarcastically while in pain} Brilliant! Since I escaped the truck accident, I instead got in ambulance accident, who in world would ever get in accident with an ambulance, I guess, this is how my life ends.

After this Oliver close his eyes accepting his fate. But in next moment, the pain is suddenly gone and Oliver regain his consciousness.

[Thought: Huh? I survived, why I don't smell hospital environment?]

Oliver woke up and looked at his surroundings, he saw lush forest, butterflies, grass and so on.

*Panicked* Where am I?!

Oliver then noticed him where a familiar suit which fits his size and a familiar tome near him.

Codex Umbra? And this is...Maxwell's outfit?

Oliver went to nearby flowing water to see his face in reflection.

Atleast my face and figure is still same. Am I in constant? Did ambulance accident transmigrated me into another world? Like in those animation and comics from east?

Oliver looked at his surrounding, then picked up the tome.

*Sigh* I guess it can't be helped, all I can do is to survive this world, I don't know whether this place is constant or any other world but I must survive it, for that, I must master the magic in this tome. It is good thing that I have this book, it will make easier for me to survive this unknown world.

Thus, Oliver start to study and learn the magic in the codex umbra, to gain basic magical knowledge to survive this world.

The lush green of the forest was deceptive. To an ordinary boy, it was a postcard. To a Don't Starve pro, it was a collection of resource nodes.

Oliver took a deep breath, expecting the familiar "Sanity" hum of the Constant. Instead, he felt a strange, cold pulse emanating from the Codex Umbra in his hand. He flipped it open. The pages weren't paper; they felt like cured skin, and the ink writhed like living beetles.

Too bad, there is no HUD, as this is reality not game, meaning no health meter, no hunger meter and no sanity meter. I have to gauge it by feel.

He looked at the Codex. In the game, Maxwell could simply click a button to summon a shadow. Here, Oliver felt a mental "weight" as he stared at the diagrams. He focused on the Shadow Worker. He didn't just need wood; he needed to see if the rules of the game still applied.

Exul mactaris...

He didn't know the language, but the words formed in his mind as he traced a glyph. A sharp, icy pain shot through his chest—his "Sanity" being taxed—and a pool of ink spilled from his shadow onto the grass. It rose, elongating into a tall, jagged silhouette of himself holding a dark, ethereal axe.

The shadow worker stood motionless, waiting.

{Pointing towards a nearby oak tree} Go chop.

The shadow glided forward. There was no sound of footsteps, only the terrifying thwack of the shadow axe hitting real wood.

{Rubbing his temples to soothe his headache} Okay, magic works, resource gathering is automated. Now food.

He spent the next hour acting on instinct. He picked flint from the riverbank, plucked tufts of dry grass, and gathered twigs. His hands moved with the practiced efficiency of a man who had done this thousands of times in a simulation.

He found while birds, butterflies, bees and rabbits exist, they look different from the one in game

Perhaps because this is reality and not animated game I played, no wonder, everything look different from game.

Oliver summoned more of shadow workers, to increase the efficiency, and quickly build a cottage for himself as well as gather every resource found in surroundings.

Oliver turn towards group 1.

Go, and gather every resource you find, fruits, vegetables, herbs, wood, stone, flint, grass, twig, anything useful.

Then he turn towards group 2.

You guys, use the materials brought by group 1 to build a cottage as well as it's furnitures and fireplace.

Both group nodded and start their work immediately. Within just two hours the shadow workers managed to build a cottage or rather a mansion, with storehouses to store the resources.

{To group 2} I said a cottage, but it's fine, I am impressed and you guys managed to exceed my expectations.

After his home is built, Oliver dispersed the shadow workers. The shadow servants disappeared from thin air. Oliver went inside mansion and threw himself in straw bed. it is bit unconfortable than the bed he is used to, but it is more than enough for him.

[Thought: Tommorow, I must start my work for real. I don't know what world I am in now, but I must be prepared for every situation that I might encounter.]

With this thought in mind, Oliver closed his eyes to sleep.
