Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 {Gurdian}

As she entered the park, Ludovica's gaze scanned the playground, searching for the familiar figures of the twins. She spotted them on the swings, their bright smiles and infectious laughter a stark contrast to her own sleep-deprived state.

Justin and Jennie, both seven years old, were bundles of energy, and Ludovica couldn't help but smile as she watched them play. She knelt down to their eye level, her movements a bit stiff from her recent nap, and asked, "No one bullied you guys?" Her voice was soft and gentle, a soothing balm to the twins' energetic chatter.

Justin and Jennie shook their heads in unison, their pigtails bouncing with the movement.

"No, big sister!" they chimed, their voices filled with excitement. Ludovica smiled, relieved that they were safe and happy. She ruffled their hair, her fingers tangling in their curls.

"Good, let's go." The twins squealed in delight, grabbing Ludovica's hands and pulling her towards the exit. As they walked, Ludovica's thoughts began to wander back to the paper that Teacher Yan had handed out. She had completely forgotten about it, and now it was safely tucked away in her bag, ignored and unloved.

The walk home was a blur of chatter and laughter, the twins regaling Ludovica with stories of their day. She listened, half-asleep, her responses limited to gentle murmurs and nods. As they approached their apartment building, Ludovica's thoughts turned to the paper once more.

She knew she should probably do something about it, but her brain was too foggy to care. She pushed the thought aside, deciding to deal with it later. For now, she just wanted to go home, take a nap, and forget about the whole thing.

As they entered the apartment, Ludovica was hit with the familiar scent of cooking wafting from the kitchen. She smiled, her stomach growling in anticipation. The twins ran off to do their homework, leaving Ludovica to collapse onto the couch, the paper still forgotten in her bag.

At 7:30 pm the front door opened.

Ludovica's eyes widened in anger as she slammed her palm on the table.

"Zoey, what the hell? You promised you wouldn't do this in front of Justin and Jennie!" she exclaimed. Zoey, nonchalant, blew out a stream of smoke and winked at Ludovica.

"Now, now, I put money on the table," she said, her voice husky and confident.

Ludovica's anger boiled over as she thought about the twins, Justin and Jennie, who were still young and impressionable. She didn't want them to be exposed to Zoey's promiscuous lifestyle, and she certainly didn't want them to think that this was normal behavior. Ludovica's face twisted in disgust as she glared at Zoey, her eyes flashing with fury.

"How could you, Zoey?" Ludovica spat, her voice venomous.

"You know how much I hate it when you do this in front of the twins. They're just kids, for crying out loud! They don't need to see this." Zoey shrugged, her expression unrepentant. "They're going to learn about sex sooner or later, might as well be from me," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

Ludovica's anger reached a boiling point as she thought about Zoey's flippant attitude. She knew that Zoey was only looking out for herself, and that she didn't care about the well-being of the twins or Ludovica. Ludovica's eyes narrowed as she glared at Zoey, her mind racing with thoughts of how to protect the twins from Zoey's toxic influence.

As the tension between them escalated, the air in the room grew thick with unspoken emotions. Ludovica's anger and frustration simmered just below the surface, waiting to erupt at any moment. Zoey, seemingly oblivious to the danger, continued to taunt Ludovica, her words dripping with malice.

The scene was set for a explosive confrontation, one that would change the dynamics of their relationship forever. Ludovica's anger and frustration had reached a boiling point, and she was ready to take a stand against Zoey's selfish and destructive behavior.

Ludovica's anger fueled her scribbling, each stroke of the pen a manifestation of her frustration. She wrote nonsense, carefree and reckless, the words bleeding onto the page like her emotions. As she wrote, her anger intensified, a fire burning within her.

She didn't care about the school, or Zoey's expectations. She just wanted to be left alone. With a final flourish, she signed her name, a defiant smirk spreading across her face. Rejected, she thought, that's all she'd ever be.

As she finished writing, Ludovica felt a sense of relief wash over her. She had gotten her emotions out, and now she could finally calm down. She looked at the paper, a mess of scribbles and nonsense, and chuckled to herself.

Zoey would be so disappointed. Ludovica knew that her mother had been pushing her to get into this mysterious school, but Ludovica had no interest. She was happy with her simple life, and she didn't need some fancy education to make her happy.

With a sigh, Ludovica put the pen down and leaned back in her chair. She closed her eyes, feeling the tension in her body begin to ease. She was so used to Zoey's antics, so used to being disappointed by her mother's behavior. It was just another day in the life of Ludovica.

The next morning, Ludovica woke up to the sound of Zoey's voice.

"I'll be gone for a few weeks," she said, her mouth full of food. Ludovica slowly nodded her head, not even bothering to respond. She waved the twins over, and they came running, shouting.

"Bye, Mom!" as they hugged Zoey goodbye. Ludovica crossed her arms, watching as Zoey left the apartment. She didn't care where her mother was going, or what she was doing. She just wanted to be left alone.

As she took the twins to school, Ludovica's thoughts turned to her own life. She was happy to be free of Zoey's drama, if only for a little while. She walked into the school, the twins chattering excitedly beside her. As they approached the teacher, Mr. Brown, he rushed forward, a look of concern on his face.

"Lulu, you're the twins' guardian," he said, his voice serious. Ludovica nodded, her expression neutral. She had always been the one to take care of the twins, even though she was still just a teenager herself.

"What's the matter?" Ludovica asked, her voice detached. Mr. Brown hesitated, looking around nervously.

"The twins... someone wants to take them as a disciple," he said, his voice low. Ludovica raised an eyebrow, intrigued despite herself.

"Okay," she said, her voice neutral. She didn't know what to make of this news, but she was determined to protect the twins, no matter what.

Little did she know.
