Chapter 33 - The essence of worries

"My big sister hates humans."

Ikumi Yoshino's consultation began with those words.

"...You're not surprised, are you? You heard that your big sister hates humans."

"I had anticipated something like that."

"I think the reason he's putting on that 'normal' act is because he doesn't want to get involved with other people."

"You really can see right through everything."

"Well, yeah. Next, should I explain why I joined the tea ceremony club?"

Ikumi nodded in surprise, so I gave my answer.

"Isn't your sister in the tea ceremony club, where she interacts directly with people, in order to correct her dislike of people?"

In other words, it's not so much that she hates people, but rather that she hates herself for being that way."

"Hey, are you really human?"

"I told you, didn't I? I'm God."

"Haha, that's right."

"So, your problem is about 'correcting your sister's personality,' is that correct?"

"Yes, that's right."

Our direction was perfectly aligned as of this morning's discussion.

However, even if we can decide on a course of action, we still need more information.

"There are a few things I'd like to confirm..."

First, just to be sure, is it really her own wish to change her personality?

"...Yeah, I'm sure of it."

My older sister has always said things that make it seem like she's jealous of me because I can talk to people normally, and lately she's been saying more and more things that put her down."

"I see. Then it seems to be correct."

Unless my sister in front of me was lying, it must be true, and she didn't seem like the type to lie.

For now, it's probably safe to trust them.

"Hey, I wonder if the reason you've been so worried lately is because you've fallen in love with Katsuragi-kun?"

"I wonder if it happened because I wanted to be able to talk to Katsuragi-kun?"

 "I fell in love," huh?

The feelings Mami has for me are probably not romantic love yet, but I suppose there's no need to point that out.

"If you can't think of any other possibilities, then that's a strong possibility."

"I thought so. Hmm..."

"Okay, let me ask you the next question."

"Yeah, bring it on!"

"The fact that he wants to correct his behavior himself means he must have been doing a lot of other things besides joining the tea ceremony club."

I want to know what you did and how you failed."

"Yeah, well, I try to actively participate in class events and when we all go out to play somewhere together."

I try to participate, but... I just can't bear it anymore halfway through."

"Can't bear it any longer?"

"Yeah. I get sick, and sometimes I even throw up."

"That's... a serious case."

Is it really worth going through all that trouble just to get corrected?

It might sound a little strange to say this, but Asami's true personality is that she likes talking to people.

Just like my younger sister standing right in front of me.

I initially thought the only similarities were in their appearance, but it seems they have similar personalities as well, or at least some common ground.

However, with a condition this severe, a straightforward, brute-force approach would likely be counterproductive.

No, if it could be cured through conventional methods, it wouldn't become a void in the heart in the first place.

The void in your heart, and its cause...

...It seems she really does enjoy talking to people.

"Rejoice, Ikumi Yoshino."

 I can see the ending!"

"...fart?"

"I told her that her problem would be resolved soon."

"R-Really?!"

"Yes. However, your cooperation is absolutely essential. Can you do that for me?"

"Of course!"

"Okay, first, please give me your contact information."

"Yes! Um..."

After discussing general plans for the future, the group disbanded.

"Oh, welcome back Keima-kun, so, how was it?"

As soon as we got home, Nakagawa called out to me, sounding very anxious.

What's wrong? What on earth happened...? Oh, that.

"Don't worry. It looks like you won't be needed anymore."

"Oh, thank goodness..."

"...That was good, but I don't like the way you said it."

"Really? Sorry."

In the worst-case scenario, the plan was for Nakagawa, not me, to win over Asami.

I'm so glad it turned out to be just a needless worry.

"So that girl was a different person after all?"

"Ah, Yoshino Ikumi, apparently she's his twin sister."

"So she's your sister. They look so alike."

"If we hadn't talked, I almost certainly wouldn't have noticed."

I'm sure they didn't talk to anyone other than us at school.

I doubt they have any friends to make small talk with.

"Oh, that reminds me. What are your plans for this weekend?"

"Huh? This weekend?"

Um, Elsie has the notebook right now so I'm a little unsure, but... I think the event was at a place called 'Gakkan Land'."

"'Gakkan Land'...I think it was a large indoor amusement facility."

In short, it's like a large arcade, but...

Karaoke, bowling, manga cafes, and restaurants are all housed in one massive building.

The main attraction is a roller coaster, which is forcibly incorporated into the building and is said to be very thrilling and popular.

I think some real-life woman said something along those lines.

"That should be the case, but... does it happen to clash with the planned date for the walkthrough? Should I clear my schedule?"

"No, there's no problem."

I was planning to settle it safely at DisneySea, but I can just change my mind about that."

"Huh, are you sure?"

"To be honest, any place where a lot of people were making noise would have been fine."

In fact, it might be more convenient if we didn't have to postpone it even if the weather was bad."

"That would be great, but..."

Nakagawa nodded, though he looked uneasy.

But then his expression suddenly changed to one of surprise.

"What, you're going to a place where a lot of people are making noise?"

"ah"

"Yoshino, you're not very good at interacting with people, are you sure you want to be taken to a place like that?"

"Well, it's probably not going to be okay."

"You know it's not going to be okay, but you're still going?"

"ah"

"If they were just trying to get Yoshino to overcome his misanthropy by having him interact with people without thinking things through, I would have stopped them with all my might, but it seems he's going ahead with it knowing what he's doing."

I'm sure Keima has his own reasons, so I won't stop him. I'll leave it to you."

"Yeah. I'll leave the final stages to you too."

"Yeah!"

Elsie returned home sometime after evening.

After checking Nakagawa's packed schedule and reconfirming the weekend plans, I found no problems and decided on a course of action.

Next, I used my home phone to contact Ikumi Yoshino.

"Hello, it's me. Keima."

"It's been a while, hasn't it? What's up?"

"I have something I'd like to ask you to do, is now a good time?"

"It's okay. What should I do?"

"It's a place to gather people, but please make it Gakkan Land. Is that possible?"

"Oh, that place. It's a popular spot right now, so I think it'll be fine."

"I see. Well, I'll leave it to you then."

"Okay. See you then!"

This means Ikumi Yoshino will take care of all the most troublesome preparations.

From here on, it's a straight shot to the ending.
