Nyx
Everything hurt. My head. My body. Even my breathing felt wrong. I forced my eyes open, but the light stabbed into them like knives. I winced and turned my face away, groaning softly. "Where am I…?" The surface beneath me was cold. Hard. Not my bed. Not my room.
Panic hit instantly. I pushed myself up, my hands trembling, and looked around. A dimly lit room. Grey walls. No windows. Just one metal door. My heartbeat started racing. Fast.
Too fast. "What the hell…" I whispered, my voice dry. Memories rushed back all at once…
The street. The woman. The blood. That feeling. And then… The cloth. My breathing became uneven. "I need to get out of here…"
I stumbled to my feet, my legs weak, and moved toward the door. I grabbed the handle and pulled. Locked. Of course it was locked.
"Great," I muttered bitterly, running a hand through my hair. Think. Think. Before I could try anything else… The door clicked. I froze.
It opened slowly. A man stepped inside. I stepped back instantly, my heart pounding in my chest. "You're awake," he said calmly, like this was normal. "Who are you?!" I snapped. "Why am I here?!" He ignored my questions and just… looked at me. Not like a normal person. Like he was studying me. Observing.
Judging. It made my skin crawl. "What did you do to me?" I demanded. "Nothing," he replied. "You were already like this." My stomach dropped. "What does that even mean?!"
He took a step closer. Instinctively, I stepped back. "You felt it, didn't you?" he said quietly. "The urge." My throat went dry. "No," I said quickly. "I don't know what you're talking about." A lie. And he knew it. "The blood," he continued, unfazed. "You wanted it." "Stop it!" I snapped, my voice shaking. "I'm not…" "Normal?" he finished for me. Silence filled the room. Heavy. Uncomfortable. Terrifying. My chest tightened. "What are you saying…?" I whispered. He watched me for a long moment. Then said something that made my world stop. "You're not human." Everything inside me went still. "No…" I shook my head slowly. "That's not funny." "I'm not joking."
"You're lying." But even as I said it…That feeling came back. That same dryness in my throat. That same pull. My hands trembled.
"What… am I?" I whispered. He didn't answer immediately. Instead, he turned toward the door. "You'll understand soon enough."
"Wait…!" I stepped forward. "You can't just say that and leave!" He paused. Then glanced at me over his shoulder. "Be careful, Nyx," he said. My breath caught. How does he know my name…? "You're already changing." And with that… He walked out. The door locked again. Silence. But not for long. Because a second later. A sharp pain shot through my chest. I gasped, falling to my knees. My heartbeat went wild. My vision blurred.
My fangs.. No. No, that's not possible…
I pressed my hand against my mouth, panic rising.
Something was wrong.
Terribly wrong.
