Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 ~ The Truth She Was Never Meant to Know

The night felt colder than usual.

Not because of the weather—

But because of where they were going.

The car moved through the darker part of the city, far away from the lights, into areas where even silence felt dangerous.

Luna sat still, her fingers tightly locked together in her lap.

Brevis drove.

Adrian watched.

No one spoke.

Because all of them knew—

This wasn't just another mission.

This was personal.

Very personal.

---

Thirty Minutes Later

The car stopped in front of an old colonial-style mansion hidden behind tall iron gates.

The building looked abandoned.

But the lights inside told a different story.

Brevis turned off the engine.

"This the place?"

Adrian nodded once.

"Yes."

Luna stared at the mansion.

Her chest felt tight.

"I've been here before."

Brevis glanced at her.

"When?"

"Years ago… with my father."

That made everything heavier.

Brevis stepped out first.

Adrian followed.

Luna took a breath—

And then stepped out last.

The iron gate creaked open as they pushed it.

The sound echoed through the quiet night.

Too loud.

Too final.

They walked toward the main entrance.

Each step felt like walking deeper into the past.

Brevis reached the door and pushed it open.

Unlocked.

"Either we're expected…"

"…or this is another trap," he muttered.

Adrian replied calmly,

"It's both."

---

Inside the Mansion

The air smelled old.

Dust and time.

But the inside was well-maintained.

Clean.

Someone lived here.

They walked into a large hall.

A chandelier hung above them, casting dim golden light.

And then—

A voice echoed from the shadows.

"I was wondering when you'd come."

Luna froze.

She knew that voice.

Slowly—

A man stepped into the light.

Older.

Gray hair.

Sharp eyes that hadn't softened with time.

Luna whispered,

"…Arman."

Brevis frowned.

"That's him?"

Adrian nodded.

"Yes."

Arman smiled faintly.

"Luna Vale."

His voice carried a strange warmth.

"You've grown."

Luna's expression hardened instantly.

"You're alive."

Arman chuckled softly.

"Clearly."

Brevis stepped slightly forward.

"Let's skip the reunion."

Arman's eyes shifted to him.

"And you must be Brevis Draven."

Brevis didn't answer.

Arman nodded approvingly.

"I see why Victor is concerned."

Adrian spoke coldly,

"We're not here for conversation."

Arman sighed.

"You never were patient, Adrian."

Luna stepped forward.

"Why are you working with Victor?"

Arman looked at her.

And for a moment—

Something almost like regret passed through his eyes.

Then it disappeared.

"Because he understands power."

Luna's voice shook slightly.

"My father didn't."

Arman's expression darkened.

"Your father was weak."

The words hit like a slap.

Luna's eyes burned.

"He was honest."

Arman laughed softly.

"And that's exactly why he died."

Silence.

Brevis's hand tightened slightly into a fist.

Adrian remained still.

Watching.

Always watching.

Luna stepped closer.

"You betrayed him."

Arman didn't deny it.

"Yes."

Her voice broke slightly—

But she didn't step back.

"You let them kill him."

Arman's voice became colder.

"I allowed the inevitable."

Luna shook her head.

"No."

"You chose power over loyalty."

Arman's eyes hardened.

"I chose survival."

Luna stared at him.

"And now you work for the people who destroy lives."

Arman smiled faintly.

"No."

"I work with them."

Brevis muttered,

"Same thing."

Arman ignored him.

Instead, he looked directly at Luna.

"You don't understand your own story."

Luna frowned.

"What does that mean?"

Arman stepped closer.

"Adrian told you about the list, didn't he?"

"Yes."

"But he didn't tell you everything."

Luna felt her heart start racing.

"What are you talking about?"

Arman's voice lowered.

"The list wasn't just names."

Luna whispered,

"I know."

Arman shook his head slowly.

"No."

"You don't."

Adrian's eyes narrowed slightly.

Even he was listening carefully now.

Arman continued,

"The list was a control system."

Brevis frowned.

"That's not helpful."

Arman ignored him.

"It contained identities… influence networks… power structures…"

He looked directly at Luna.

"And bloodlines."

Luna froze.

"What?"

Arman's gaze didn't move.

"Your father wasn't just a target."

Her breath caught.

"He was part of something much bigger."

Luna shook her head.

"No…"

Arman's voice became almost quiet.

"He was one of them."

Silence.

Heavy.

Unreal.

Brevis spoke slowly,

"One of who?"

Arman answered calmly.

"The people who built the system Victor now controls."

Luna felt like the ground had disappeared beneath her.

"That's not possible."

Arman tilted his head.

"Isn't it?"

Adrian stepped forward slightly.

"You're saying her father was part of the original network."

Arman nodded.

"Yes."

Luna looked between them.

"Then why was he on the list?"

Arman's answer was cold.

"Because he tried to destroy it."

Everything stopped.

Luna's heart pounded painfully.

"He… what?"

Arman nodded.

"Your father realized what the system had become."

"And he tried to expose it."

Luna's voice trembled.

"So they killed him."

Arman didn't look away.

"Yes."

Tears burned in Luna's eyes—

But she refused to let them fall.

"And you helped them."

Arman's voice was quiet.

"I chose to survive."

Luna whispered,

"You chose to betray him."

Arman didn't deny it.

"Yes."

The truth hit harder than anything before.

Her father wasn't just a victim.

He had been part of the system.

And he died trying to stop it.

Luna stepped back slowly.

Everything she believed—

Everything she thought she knew—

Was wrong.

Adrian watched her carefully.

For the first time—

He looked concerned.

Brevis stepped closer to her.

"Luna…"

But she didn't respond.

Her mind was too loud.

Too full.

Arman spoke again.

"There's something else."

Luna looked up slowly.

"What now?"

Arman's eyes darkened slightly.

"You weren't just his daughter."

Her breath stopped.

"What?"

Adrian's expression changed slightly.

Even he didn't expect this.

Arman continued,

"You were part of the system too."

Luna shook her head.

"No."

"Yes."

"That's not true."

Arman's voice became firm.

"You were registered."

The room went completely silent.

Brevis frowned.

"Registered for what?"

Arman looked directly at Luna.

"As an heir."

Luna felt her entire world collapse.

"…No."

Adrian whispered,

"That's why you were trained."

Luna looked at him.

"What?"

Adrian's voice became quieter.

"You weren't just being taught to survive…"

He paused.

"…you were being prepared to lead."

Luna stepped back again.

Her breathing became uneven.

"No… no, that's not—"

Arman interrupted.

"It is."

He took a step forward.

"You were meant to inherit your father's position."

Brevis muttered,

"Well… that's one hell of a twist."

Luna couldn't think.

Couldn't breathe.

Couldn't process.

Everything felt wrong.

Her entire life—

A lie.

Adrian stepped closer to her.

"Luna…"

She shook her head.

"Don't."

Her voice cracked.

"Don't say anything."

Silence filled the room again.

Then—

Arman spoke one final time.

"Victor knows."

Luna froze.

"What?"

Arman's voice was calm.

"He knows exactly who you are."

Brevis's expression darkened instantly.

"That's bad."

Adrian nodded slightly.

"Yes."

Luna whispered,

"…why?"

Arman's answer came cold.

"Because you're not just a threat anymore."

Luna slowly looked up.

Her silver eyes filled with something new.

Something darker.

"Then what am I?"

Arman's voice dropped.

"You're the only person who can take his place."
