Chapter 24 - Chapter 24 ~ The Queen Rises

The mansion was quiet again.

But it wasn't the same kind of silence.

Before, it had been filled with secrets.

Now—

It was filled with aftermath.

Broken glass covered the floor.

The scent of gunpowder still lingered in the air.

And in the center of it all—

Luna stood still.

Not shaken.

Not afraid.

Changed.

Brevis leaned against a cracked pillar, watching her closely.

Adrian stood a few steps away, his gaze just as sharp.

Neither of them spoke.

Because both of them felt it.

Something had shifted.

Something irreversible.

Finally, Brevis broke the silence.

"Well…"

He exhaled slowly.

"That was… intense."

Luna didn't respond.

Her eyes were focused on something far away.

Not physically.

Mentally.

Brevis pushed himself off the pillar and walked toward her.

"You going to say something?"

Still nothing.

He stopped in front of her.

"Luna."

That got her attention.

Her silver eyes lifted slowly to meet his.

And for a second—

Brevis felt it.

That difference.

That weight.

"You okay?" he asked.

Luna nodded once.

"Yes."

But her voice was different now.

Calm.

Grounded.

Almost… powerful.

Brevis frowned slightly.

"Yeah… I don't think I believe you."

Luna didn't argue.

Instead, she asked something unexpected.

"Brevis… what do you do when everything you believed in turns out to be a lie?"

Brevis blinked once.

Then he shrugged.

"You adapt."

Luna tilted her head slightly.

"That simple?"

"No."

He smirked faintly.

"But it sounds good."

For the first time—

A small smile touched Luna's lips.

But it didn't last.

Adrian stepped forward.

"You're processing too much at once."

Luna looked at him.

"And you're not?"

Adrian's expression remained steady.

"I've known pieces of this for years."

"Then you should have told me."

"I couldn't."

"Or you didn't want to."

Silence.

Adrian didn't deny it.

That answer was enough.

Luna took a slow breath.

"Everything was planned."

Brevis crossed his arms.

"Yeah. Starting to feel like that."

Luna turned slightly, looking around the destroyed room.

"My father…"

Her voice softened.

"…he wasn't just trying to survive."

Adrian nodded.

"He was trying to dismantle the system from inside."

Luna swallowed.

"And I was supposed to continue that."

Brevis added quietly,

"Or control it."

Luna looked at him.

"Yes."

Adrian's voice lowered.

"You were meant to become something powerful."

Luna met his gaze.

"I already am."

Silence.

Heavy.

Real.

Brevis let out a quiet breath.

"Okay… that sounded dangerous."

Luna didn't look away.

"Good."

Something in her tone made even Brevis pause.

Adrian watched her closely.

"You're changing."

Luna nodded slightly.

"I'm understanding."

Brevis raised an eyebrow.

"That doesn't make me feel better."

Luna turned toward both of them.

"For years, I thought I was running from something."

She paused.

"But I wasn't."

Adrian finished her thought quietly.

"You were being pushed toward it."

Luna nodded.

"Yes."

Brevis shook his head slightly.

"I really hate when things start making sense."

Luna ignored that.

Her voice became firmer.

"Victor thinks I'm a threat."

Adrian replied,

"You are."

Brevis added,

"Big one."

Luna continued,

"But he also thinks I'm predictable."

Adrian's eyes narrowed slightly.

"And you're not."

Luna's lips curved faintly.

"No."

Silence stretched between them.

Then Brevis spoke again.

"So what's the plan, Queen?"

The word hung in the air.

Luna didn't react immediately.

But she didn't reject it either.

Instead, she said calmly,

"We stop reacting."

Adrian nodded slightly.

"Agreed."

Brevis crossed his arms.

"And start doing what?"

Luna's eyes sharpened.

"We take control."

Brevis smirked.

"That's ambitious."

Luna looked at him.

"That's necessary."

Adrian stepped closer.

"Victor controls the system."

"Yes."

"And you want to take it from him."

"Yes."

Brevis let out a low whistle.

"Straight to the top. I like it."

Luna's voice remained steady.

"He wants me to become part of his world."

Adrian nodded.

"He expects you to step into your role."

Luna's gaze darkened slightly.

"Then we use that."

Brevis frowned.

"Use it how?"

Luna turned fully toward them.

"I let him think he's winning."

Adrian watched her carefully.

"And then?"

Luna's voice dropped.

"I break everything from the inside."

Silence.

Brevis looked impressed.

"Okay… that's actually a good plan."

Adrian didn't smile.

But something in his eyes shifted.

Approval.

"You're finally thinking like him," he said.

Luna's expression hardened.

"No."

She stepped closer.

"I'm thinking better than him."

That answer hit differently.

Brevis chuckled softly.

"Yeah… I'm definitely not arguing with that."

Adrian studied her for a long moment.

Then he asked quietly,

"Are you ready for what that means?"

Luna didn't hesitate.

"Yes."

Adrian's voice dropped slightly.

"You'll have to become something dangerous."

Luna held his gaze.

"I already am."

Silence again.

Brevis ran a hand through his hair.

"Alright, I'm convinced."

He looked between them.

"So when do we start?"

Luna answered calmly.

"Now."

---

Later That Night

The city lights stretched endlessly across the skyline.

From the rooftop of the mansion—

Luna stood alone.

The wind moved softly around her.

Carrying away the last pieces of who she used to be.

Footsteps approached behind her.

She didn't turn.

"You always do this," Adrian said quietly.

"Disappear to think."

Luna spoke without looking back.

"I needed space."

Adrian stepped closer.

"You've changed."

Luna finally turned.

"So have you."

Adrian almost smiled.

"Not as much as you."

Luna studied him.

"For years… I thought I understood you."

Adrian tilted his head slightly.

"And now?"

"I don't."

"That's probably for the best."

Silence.

Then Luna asked something she hadn't asked before.

"Why did you really train me?"

Adrian didn't answer immediately.

For the first time—

He hesitated.

Then he said quietly,

"At first… it was because of your father."

Luna nodded slowly.

"And after that?"

Adrian's voice softened.

"After that… it was because of you."

Luna's heart skipped slightly.

"You could have controlled me," she said.

Adrian shook his head.

"I never wanted that."

"You wanted loyalty."

"I wanted you to survive."

Luna held his gaze.

"That's not the same thing."

"No," Adrian admitted.

"It's not."

Silence settled between them.

Then Luna spoke again.

"You came back for me."

"Yes."

"Why?"

Adrian's answer came without hesitation.

"Because I never let go."

The words landed heavier than anything before.

Luna looked away briefly.

Then back at him.

"That's not enough anymore."

Adrian nodded slowly.

"I know."

He stepped back slightly.

"But I'm still here."

Luna didn't respond.

Because part of her—

Didn't know what to do with that.

---

Below

Brevis stood near the edge of the courtyard, watching the rooftop.

He had seen enough to understand one thing.

This wasn't simple.

Not anymore.

Luna wasn't just someone he was protecting.

And Adrian wasn't just a rival.

This—

Was something else entirely.

Complicated.

Dangerous.

And impossible to ignore.

Brevis exhaled slowly.

"Yeah…"

He muttered to himself.

"This is going to get messy."

Final Scene

Far across the city—

Inside a dark office—

Victor Salazar stood by a large window, looking out over the skyline.

One of his men stepped forward.

"Sir… the attack failed."

Victor didn't turn.

"I know."

"And Luna Vale—"

Victor raised a hand.

"She survived."

The man nodded nervously.

"Yes."

Victor smiled faintly.

"Good."

The man looked confused.

"Sir?"

Victor's voice became calm.

"Because now…"

He paused.

"…she'll come to me on her own."

His reflection stared back at him from the glass.

Cold.

Certain.

Waiting.

"After all…"

Victor whispered,

"…a queen always claims her throne."
