Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: So That's How It Is

But...

After much negotiation and battle, they managed to persuade several high-ranking generals of the Oni Clan and the leaders of the human Onmyōji. They agreed to temporarily set aside their hatred and seal Yamata no Orochi together.

Meanwhile, to restore its strength, Yamata no Orochi began devouring Onmyōji and Oni Clan members on the battlefield, converting their power for its own use.

The entire world plunged into an apocalyptic scene.

To be honest, Takiya's design was quite alluring. The feeling of this once-hated enemy becoming your ally was strangely captivating.

After her redemption, Takiya seemed even more endearing.

Koze Furukawa picked up the controller, preparing to enter the final battle.

The final battle was designed on a grand scale, with the entire Oni Clan's Royal Palace seemingly built upon the moon, surrounded by ground that shimmered with silver-white light.

Though just an image, it sparked the imagination with its magnificent vision.

The boss battle consisted of two parts.

After the first stage was won, Asakura Enya arrived.

He came for one reason: to put an end to his lingering regret.

The Yamata no Orochi before him wasn't Yuuki Rei herself, but at that moment, it was using her Ling's body as a vessel.

Though his heart ached, Asakura Enya made his decision—

He charged recklessly toward the Yamata no Orochi and plunged his magic sword deep into Yuuki Rei's body with all his might.

In that instant, Koze Furukawa's heart shattered.

The Yamata no Orochi didn't die when the body was destroyed. Instead, it began to seep out of Yuuki Rei's vessel, coalescing in the air into its true form: a colossal eight-headed, eight-tailed serpent.

The true form of Yamata no Orochi appeared, still possessing terrifying power despite its grievous injuries.

With Asakura Haruka incapacitated, the responsibility of sealing it once more fell upon Moriyama Hei.

After a final, devastating battle against its true form, the Game entered its final chapter.

Moriyama Hei raised the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi, intending to seal Yamata no Orochi.

But to his dismay, the Sword Spirit within the blade was at its last breath, exhausted from the earlier battle.

Tiny specks of starlight began to dissipate from the Sword Spirit's body.

She looked down at her hands, which gradually turned transparent.

Everyone was shocked.

"Can't you seal it?" Takiya asked.

Moriyama Hei rushed forward, trying to embrace the Sword Spirit, but his arms passed through empty air.

Nani?!

Koze Furukawa's heart skipped a beat.

The Sword Spirit had vanished.

Its magical power had been completely depleted.

Without the Sword Spirit, the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi dimmed, becoming indistinguishable from ordinary magical swords. It had lost its ability to seal Yamata no Orochi.

At that moment, Asakura Reimu suddenly understood something.

She looked up, staring blankly at Moriyama Hei.

"I understand now."

A single tear rolled down her cheek.

Reimu smiled through her tears, her expression both beautiful and tragic, "This is the mission of our Izanagi Clan. We were born to seal Yamata no Orochi."

"What?!" Moriyama Hei shook his head, unwilling to understand or accept her words.

"Did you know the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi can sever time itself?" Reimu said with a smile. "It can also return to the past."

With that, she raised the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi from the ground.

"From now on, without a Sword Spirit, I will become its spirit."

Reimu reversed her grip on the blade and plunged it into her own heart.

"Wh... what?!"

Koze Furukawa's heart lurched violently.

After choosing death, Reimu transformed into a ghostly form, slowly seeping from her body and becoming an incorporeal, transparent figure.

Yet, because she had bonded with the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi, her body radiated a silvery, pure moonlight.

"I will take Yamata no Orochi back with me. From this day forward, it will never again plague the mortal world."

With those words, Asakura Reimu charged toward Yamata no Orochi.

"Reimu!!!" Moriyama Hei screamed hoarsely.

But it was too late.

A blinding flash of white light filled the screen.

Asakura Reimu and Yamata no Orochi vanished.

What... what does this mean?

Koze Furukawa was utterly bewildered.

Yet his heart was deeply shaken.

Two seconds passed.

The screen lit up again.

A snow-covered peak of a sacred mountain.

This time, Koze Furukawa wasn't controlling Moriyama Hei, but Asakura Reimu.

She stood in the snow, gazing at the vermilion gate atop the mountain, a faint smile playing on her lips.

"I've truly returned."

In the distance, the Shinto shrine remained intact. The Onmyōji disciples were training, while Asakura Haruka stood with his hands behind his back, leaning against a snow-laden pine, gazing into the distance.

Asakura Reimu descended into an underground cave, where she found a simple, unassuming youth struggling to grip the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi in the altar, trying to draw it out.

"Idiot! Do you know what you've done?!" she snapped.

The youth turned, looking at her with a bewildered expression.

The screen shifted back to Asakura Reimu's face.

Her scolding expression softened into a smile as she saw him.

Hei. I'm back.

Asakura Reimu said in her heart.

The screen flashed white.

The familiar BGM began to play.

Koze Furukawa's body trembled.

"We'll go back together..."
