Chapter 5 - THE SECRET MESSAGE

Night had fallen over the small village.

The sky above was clear, filled with quiet stars that shimmered like distant lights. A soft breeze moved through the trees as Yue Yun sat near a small fire with Mei Lin. The events of the day had passed, and the villagers were safe… but inside him, the weight of everything hadn't completely settled.

Mei Lin sat across from him, her gaze fixed on the flickering flames.

"You did well," she said gently. "But something about those demons felt… off. It didn't seem like they were just attacking. It was almost as if…" she paused slightly, choosing her words, "…they were testing you."

Yue Yun nodded slowly.

"I felt it too."

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then—

A faint glow appeared in the darkness.

Yue Yun looked up immediately.

A small orb of white light floated toward them, moving quietly through the air. It pulsed softly, like a heartbeat, as though it carried a message from far away.

Mei Lin's expression changed. "A spirit messenger…"

The orb stopped in front of Yue Yun.

Then it suddenly burst apart into a scroll made of silver light.

Yue Yun reached out and caught it instinctively. The light condensed into something he could hold, and he quickly unrolled it.

His eyes scanned the message.

"The balance is breaking. One of the Divine Lords walks the edge of shadow. Trust is a fragile thing. Eyes watch from within the clouds."

Silence.

Yue Yun's expression tightened. "This… is a warning."

Mei Lin leaned in slightly. "Who would send something like this?"

Yue Yun shook his head. "I don't know."

Mei Lin thought for a moment, then spoke quietly. "Could it be… your sister?"

Yue Yun hesitated.

"No," he said after a pause. "Yue Yan is still in seclusion. She wouldn't send something like this—not yet."

He looked up at the night sky again, his thoughts turning heavy.

One of the Divine Lords… walking the edge of shadow?

That meant the danger wasn't just below in the Mortal Realm.

It reached all the way to the highest place of power.

The Celestial Realm itself might not be as stable as he believed.

Yue Yun carefully folded the scroll and tucked it into his sleeve.

"We have to be careful," he said quietly. "I don't know who we can trust anymore."

Mei Lin looked at him, her expression calm but certain.

"Then start by trusting yourself."

Yue Yun exhaled slowly.

A faint smile appeared on his face.

He wasn't alone.

But now… the trials ahead had become something far more dangerous than he first imagined.

Something unseen was moving behind the scenes.

And Yue Yun would be ready when it revealed itself.
