Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4: THE FIRST TRAIL

Yue Yun and Mei Lin walked through the small village under the bright morning sun.

It was a simple place—wooden houses lined the narrow paths, and farmers worked steadily in the fields. Life here moved at a slower, quieter pace… but beneath that calm surface, danger was never too far away.

"Your first trial will begin soon," Mei Lin said softly. "You'll need to learn how to protect others… and control your power at the same time."

Yue Yun nodded. He could already feel it—the difference between this world and the Celestial Realm. Up there, everything felt controlled, distant, almost untouched by fear. Here… people lived with it. Fear of demons. Fear of the night.

Before he could say anything more—

A sudden scream tore through the air.

Both of them turned immediately.

From the edge of the forest, several dark shapes emerged. Small demons, their bodies twisted, eyes glowing a deep, unsettling red. They moved quickly, unpredictably, closing in on the village.

"Protect the villagers!" Mei Lin shouted.

Yue Yun's heart skipped.

In that instant, instinct took over.

He closed his eyes for a brief moment and reached inward, feeling the energy within him rise. It wasn't calm—but it was alive, responding to his will.

A flash of blue light appeared beside him.

Ao Xuan, the Azure Dragon, manifested with a low, powerful roar, its presence filling the air with authority.

Yue Yun stepped forward, raising his hands.

Blue flames ignited around him, swirling and gathering. This time, the power felt more controlled than before—still wild, but no longer slipping out of his grasp.

With a sharp exhale, he released it.

A wave of blue fire surged forward, striking the incoming demons.

They screeched and scattered, trying to escape the sudden burst of power. But more of them kept emerging from the forest, forcing Yue Yun to stay alert and keep fighting.

He moved quickly now—his steps more steady, his reactions sharper. Each attack came faster than the last, his flames growing stronger as he adapted in real time.

After what felt like a long, exhausting struggle, the remaining demons retreated back into the darkness of the forest.

Silence returned.

The villagers slowly stepped out of their homes, looking around in shock… before their fear turned into relief. Then gratitude. One by one, they began to cheer.

Yue Yun stood still, breathing heavily, his flames fading.

Mei Lin walked up beside him, a small smile on her face. "You did well. But this is only the beginning."

Yue Yun looked up at the sky.

His expression had changed.

The hesitation was gone.

In its place was something stronger.

Determination.

He wouldn't fail.

Not for the Celestial Realm. Not for his sister.

And not for the future of the Three Realms.
