Due to its position as a neutral country, it could sell medicines and the other healthcare products which are not counted as weapons to any country they wanted. And Amazon Lily was taking the full advantage of it.
Throughout the years Amazon Lily had produced many miracles through research and development. For example condensed ORS that could keep a person's body hydrated for a long time with minimum water intake. Or the pain killers that could numb the pain to the point that a person would not need anaesthesia before a major surgery. There were even "power pills" that could be eaten by a person once and he would not need any food for the next couple of days to feel hungry. There were drugs to stop bleeding and to keep severely injured human beings alive for a longer time.
During this time the personal first aid kit also became very popular. Especially between German and French soldiers. Germany was the first one to adapt and train its soldiers to perform rudimentary first aid that would help them survive and fight even when they were heavily injured. Simple bullet wounds that should cause the death of a soldier due to blood loss could be prevented by the proper application of simple first aid. And with the pain killers, the soldiers could fight for a long time before needing to be rescued.
Using this type of endurance tactics, Germany had gained the upper hand in the trench warfare of the Western front. But that superiority did not last long as France adapted quickly too. Considering Amazon Lily was willing to sell their products to both the countries, that advantage disappeared quickly. Germany's attempt to quickly knock out France failed at the Battle of the Marne and the war turned into a stalemate, with two lines of deep trenches stretching from Switzerland to the North Sea. For nearly four years, soldiers fought a "war of attrition," as their countries filled the treasury of Amazon Lily.
It was just a small example of how the Amazon Lily had profited from the war. Obviously during this time many countries tried to put political pressure on it. But obviously it wouldn't work because they didn't have the upper hand. Not only their military medical supplies, but also their domestic medical supplies completely depended on one country. So threatening it was not a great idea. During this time Austria-Hungary took a new approach and offered Amazon Lily double the amount of the original price of the supplies to turn the ships to their country instead of Britain or France. Hancock decided to allow it a couple of times before she shut it off from her own side claiming that humanitarian focused products should not be bidded.
This was a great way to maintain the moral high ground in the ongoing global conflict. And it worked like a charm as after that most of the other countries stopped pushing Amazon Lily to not sell medicines to their enemies.
During the four years of War, ignoring the initial 4 years of small conflict period, World War 1 lasted for roughly 4 years. During this time the world saw a major technological leap in many fields. Submarines were used for the first time to control naval warfare. It was the first major industrial war, featuring the introduction of tanks, poison gas, aircraft, and machine guns. Obviously the type of poison gas Germany used was not constructed by Amazon Lily. They have long since declared poisons as a weapon.
The world war in the Marvel universe didn't go much different from the World War of the earth. When Germany started crossing its boundary by targeting even the merchant ships and civilian ships, the United States of America holding its freedom flag entered the game. And the moment it happened Germany immediately lost its edge in raw fire power. In terms of advanced aircrafts and machine guns, America was far ahead of Germany. Not to mention explosives too. After the Soviet Empire retreated from the war after the Russian revolution, America went on full offensive. Germany took its last stance by launching a massive offensive attack in 1918. But it failed spectacularly. And with that the allies overwhelmed Germany completely by launching an all out hundred days assault.
And that's how World War 1 came to an end.
Now coming to the topic of business, the three most profitable countries in this war were Amazon Lilly, United States of America and United States of India. America sold a lot of weapons to Britain, France and other allied Nations. The American machine guns were very popular. They earnt a massive amount of money from it. It was like the country went through a second industrial revolution during that time. Obviously it not only increased their money power but also their own fire power. By the end of World War 1, the United States of America had already become the strongest country in terms of Army and weaponry in the entire world.
Amazon Lily was not far behind. While it didn't have the resources to produce enough medical supplies to send them to the entire Europe and Russia, they did have the control over all the supplies that were being made in India. As a result they profited the same as selling the medicines on their own. In terms of money, Amazon Lilly had become one of the richest countries only third to India and Wakanda at that moment. Obviously they didn't disclose their entire profit. As a result, the United States of America remained the top dog in that field as well.
