"Gideon!" Adeline cried, desperately trying to throw open the car door, but it seemed jammed tight.
After fighting the handle for a few frantic seconds, the latch finally gave way.
She scrambled out and rushed around to the driver's side, only to freeze when she spotted a woman standing just a few meters away in the darkness.
She looked horrifying. Her eyes were completely, starkly white, and so was her hair, flowing around her like a ghostly shroud.
"Ahh!" Gideon gasped, clutching his chest tightly as the excruciating pain multiplied, tearing through him.
Adeline dropped to her knees beside him, wrapping her arms around his trembling frame and pressing her palm against his chest. "Gideon, look at me! Don't look over there!" she pleaded, panic lacing her voice.
"Go... go inside," he managed to choke out through gritted teeth, using every ounce of his remaining strength to push her back toward the car.
