"Adeline, you didn't have to say that to them," Vivian said, the tension finally leaving her shoulders now that they were safely inside the car. She slipped her water bottle into the cup holder and turned to look at her sister-in-law. "Everyone in that place thinks I'm the arrogant one, that I'm the bully."
"I recorded a video, Vivian. It clearly shows they were the ones cornering and bullying you," Adeline countered gently but firmly. "Why haven't you told anyone in your family? It isn't right. You don't deserve to hear those awful things."
"I tried complaining once before, and the girl almost ended her life because of the backlash," Vivian answered. "Ever since that day, I promised myself I'd never say anything to my family again."
