After Huxley and Vivian left for the palace, Gideon took Adeline up to their bedroom.
"I have to make a quick call. You should lie down and rest," Gideon suggested, nodding toward the bed before heading out to the open balcony.
She gazed in his direction, feeling a bit heavy-headed as the fatigue of the day finally began to catch up with her. Propping herself up against the pillows, she pulled the duvet over her body and waited for him to return.
"I was just letting Caelum know that everything is fine here," he spoke a few minutes later, stepping back into the room and sliding the balcony door shut.
"You should change out of those clothes," she muttered, watching him. "You even lied straight to the Alpha King's face about falling into a pool."
"I can't tell my dad any of this. What would he even do? Most probably, he would just panic and order me to stop looking into it," Gideon replied, already heading toward the wardrobe to pull out a fresh towel and a pair of clean clothes.
