"Why did you return?" Matilda asked, her voice echoing strangely in the dead silence of the water.
"Why are you here? What is the truth that you kept hidden even from the Alpha King? Tell me, and I'll leave," Gideon demanded. He tried to pull his hand back from her grip, but he couldn't break her hold. "Why am I seeing you when you're no longer alive?"
"Do you hate me?" Matilda questioned instead, her spectral eyes searching his.
Gideon chuckled, a bitter sound escaping him. "I asked you something first. Why can I see you here? Isn't this water cursed? And where is that fucking witch?"
"The curse has bound my soul here," Matilda said. "When I died, I happened to get bound to this place. The witch cannot touch you because of me. When all of that happened, you were still in my womb, and that is how the curse affected you as well."
