Edith returned to her chamber, realizing she had made a huge mistake by telling her mother about her feelings for Viktor.
"She's been insisting on knowing his name," she murmured, settling on the edge of the bed and gripping the silk sheets tightly. "What if she finds out who he is and he's punished? What will I do then?"
She tapped her foot anxiously against the rug, her mind racing as she tried to think of anything that could prevent her mistake from blowing up in her face. "What on earth was I even thinking, telling all this to Mom? I need to make sure Viktor stays safe at all costs."
With a trembling hand, she checked her phone, hoping against hope that Viktor had finally seen her message or left a reply.

"Yes, I'm fine. Going to bed now. Did you have your supper?"
