It was the first day of school after the long summer break and everything felt both familiar and strangely new. The same corridor ,the same classrooms, the same chatter-but something was different. Or maybe someone.
It was not looking for someone unusual that day. I was just trying to survive another boring assembly when I noticed her. She stood 2 rows ahead, her hair was tide loosely and opened up. It wasn't like I haven't seen had before-she had been in our class last year too, but somehow that day she looked different
Or maybe I did.
When she laughed at something her friend said, it felt like time slowed down. I didn't even hear what the principle was saying anymore. All I could focus on was the one moment.
"Why are you staring??"my friend asked me.
"I am not"I replied quickly, looking away.
But I was...
That was the first time I realised something has changed. I wasn't just noticing someon. It was something deeper, something I couldn't explain yet.
Later in class I found myself distracted. The teacher was explaining something important, but my eyes kept drafting towards her. Every little thing she did suddenly felt important, how she tucked har hair behind her ear, how she leaned forward to write, how she smiled.
I don't even know her properly. We had barely spoken. Just a few"pass the notebook"or "what is the homework"kind of conversations. Yet somehow she had become the centre of my thoughts.
That day, when the final bell rang, I walked out slower then usual. I didn't know why, but I hoped we had somehow work out together. But we didn't.
But as she passed by me she smiled.
A simple, casual smile.
But for me, it felt like the beginning of something I couldn't yet understand.
