Chapter 3 - When Paths Begin to Cross

The next morning didn't feel like a new beginning, yet everything about it carried a quiet shift, as if the world had slightly adjusted itself during the night, aligning people, moments, and decisions in ways no one could see yet everyone was slowly moving toward.

Aarav woke up with the same thought that had followed him into sleep, the same name lingering in his mind without permission, and for a brief moment, he lay still, staring at the ceiling, trying to convince himself that it was just another day, that nothing had truly changed.

But deep down, he knew—

Something had.

Across the city, Meera stood in front of her mirror, tying her hair with slightly unsteady hands, not because she was nervous, but because her thoughts refused to settle, drifting back again and again to the same moment, the same voice, the same feeling she couldn't explain.

She paused for a second, looking at her own reflection as if searching for an answer there.

"Why does it feel like I already know him…" she whispered, almost unconsciously.

"Because you're overthinking again."

Riya's voice came instantly, as she leaned against the doorframe with a teasing smile, clearly having heard just enough to understand the direction of Meera's thoughts.

Meera turned slightly, rolling her eyes but not denying it this time, because even she knew this wasn't normal.

"It's not like that," she said, though her tone lacked its usual confidence.

Siya, already ready and scrolling through her phone, spoke without looking up, her voice calm yet sharp as always, "Then don't think about it. If it matters, it will come back."

"Or," Riya jumped in immediately, "you can just meet him again and solve the mystery like a normal person."

Naina smiled softly at that, her silence gentle but knowing, as if she believed something more than coincidence was already at play.

And without realizing it, all of them were already moving toward the same place.

The campus was alive with its usual energy, students walking, talking, laughing, unaware that for a small group among them, this day would not remain ordinary for long, because some meetings are not planned—they are repeated.

Aarav walked through the entrance slowly, his eyes scanning the surroundings more carefully than usual, not out of habit but intention, as if he was looking for someone he hadn't officially decided to look for.

Kabir walked beside him, hands casually in his pockets, observing him with a half-smirk that carried both curiosity and amusement.

"You're definitely looking for someone," Kabir said lightly.

"I'm not," Aarav replied immediately, but the response came too quickly to sound convincing.

Dev laughed, stepping closer, "Relax, we're not judging you… we're just interested."

Rudra said nothing, but his presence remained steady, his silence not empty but aware, noticing more than he ever expressed.

And then—

A moment.

Aarav stopped walking.

Not fully.

Just enough for his focus to shift.

Because across the open space, near the stairs, stood Meera.

The same stillness returned.

The same unexplainable familiarity.

The same pause in time that didn't affect anyone else.

Meera felt it too.

Her eyes lifted without knowing why—

And found him.

For a second, the noise around them blurred, conversations fading into background echoes, as if both of them were standing in a space that belonged only to them, separate from everything else.

Riya noticed first, her smile widening immediately, "Well, that answers everything."

Siya followed her gaze, her expression unreadable but observant, while Naina simply watched quietly, as if she had expected this moment before it even happened.

Kabir leaned slightly toward Aarav, lowering his voice just enough, "So… not looking for someone, huh?"

Aarav ignored him, not because he didn't hear him, but because his focus had already shifted completely.

He stepped forward.

And this time—

He didn't stop.

"Hi," he said, his voice calm but carrying a slight hesitation, not from fear but from the weight of something he couldn't explain.

Meera smiled softly, though her eyes still held that same confusion.

"Hi."

A simple word.

Yet it felt like a continuation.

Not a beginning.

"I didn't get a chance to ask yesterday," Aarav said, his gaze steady now, "are you okay?"

"I am," she nodded, "thanks to you."

A pause followed, not awkward, but filled with something unspoken, something both of them seemed to feel but neither knew how to name.

Before the moment could stretch further—

"Meera!"

The voice cut in sharply.

Siya stepped forward, her tone controlled but firm, "We're getting late."

Kabir immediately reacted from behind Aarav, his expression shifting as soon as he saw Siya, the ease in his posture tightening just slightly, enough to reveal a history that wasn't yet spoken but clearly existed.

"Well, look who's still bossing people around," Kabir said, his tone light but edged

Siya's eyes met his instantly, calm but unyielding, "And look who still hasn't learned to mind his own business."

The air changed

Not loudly

But enough

Dev leaned toward Riya, whispering just loud enough, "And here we go."

Meera looked between them, confusion rising again, while Aarav watched silently, sensing that this wasn't just a casual argument—

This was something deeper.

Rudra stepped forward slightly, his voice low but firm, "Not here."

That was enough.

For now.

But the tension didn't disappear.

It stayed.

Waiting.

And somewhere, far from this moment yet connected to it, a decision was being made, one that would pull another story into motion.

In a quiet office, Aditya sat across from a file placed neatly in front of him, his expression unchanged as he listened to the explanation being given.

"She's the best option," the voice said, "no complications, no background risks, and she needs this as much as we do."

Aditya's gaze dropped to the file.

A name.

A photograph.

Pooja.

For a second, nothing changed.

Then slowly—

He closed the file.

"Set up the meeting."

And just like that—

Another story began.
