Chapter 5 - my love

My love - chapter 5

The chapter started with Road Ranger leaning against a discarded car, arms crossed, clearly annoyed.

"Get a girlfriend," he mocked under his breath.

"As if it's that EASY…"

He kicked a loose piece of metal on the ground.

"My power finds a path to any problem… but not a path to my soulmate?"

He sighed, then half-jokingly said:

"Fine. Pathway… bring me my soulmate."

He laughed immediately after.

"…Yeah right."

Then—

The pathway opened.

A golden tear in space formed in front of him.

Road Ranger froze.

"…No way."

From the portal, a woman stepped out.

She wore a form-fitting black uniform, sleek and armored, with a white symbol in the center — something sharp, almost like a crest of a warrior race. Her presence alone felt heavy, like gravity had shifted.

Road Ranger blinked.

"…Oh."

He didn't even finish the thought.

Because she moved.

In a flash, she speed-blitzed forward, slamming her fist into the ground near him. The impact shattered the car beside him into a rain of scraps.

She stood up and spoke in a language he couldn't understand — sharp, commanding, aggressive.

Road Ranger panicked.

"KNIGHTHOOD!" he yelled.

"HELP! IT'S LIKE A NIGHTMARE—BUT A GOOD TYPE OF NIGHTMARE—WHERE A HOT WOMAN IS TRYING TO KILL ME!"

A second later—

Knighthood appeared, landing between them and casually blocking her next attack with one arm.

He didn't even move.

The woman froze.

Her eyes widened.

Someone… stopped her?

That was rare.

Very rare.

She stepped back slightly, studying him.

Road Ranger quickly jumped in, waving his hands.

"WAIT WAIT WAIT—TIME OUT!"

He made random gestures, trying to calm her down. Surprisingly… she paused.

Knighthood looked back at Road Ranger.

"…You serious right now?"

Road Ranger nodded rapidly.

Knighthood sighed.

"Sorry, man. I came here thinking you were joking."

He turned around and started walking away.

"I was fixing something. You opened it, you deal with it."

And just like that, he left.

Road Ranger stared at him in disbelief.

"…You're the worst leader ever."

He turned back to the woman.

"…Okay. New plan."

He tried to open a pathway to send her back.

Nothing happened.

He tried again.

Still nothing.

"…Oh come on."

Then he paused.

"…Don't tell me…"

His power wasn't working.

Because the "problem" he created wasn't solved yet.

And the problem was:

Her.

More specifically—

His "soulmate problem."

Road Ranger slowly turned to look at her.

"…I have to bag her, don't I?"

He sighed.

"Alright. Fine."

He opened a smaller pathway.

"Give me something to fix the language barrier."

The pathway opened again—

—and dropped a talking squirrel into his hands.

The squirrel adjusted itself and looked at him.

"…You good?"

Road Ranger blinked.

"…You talk?"

"Yeah," the squirrel said. "English, Arabic… and Bolarunia."

Road Ranger immediately pointed at the woman.

"Tell her she's beautiful."

The squirrel turned to her and spoke fluently.

The woman blinked in surprise.

Then… slightly softened.

She responded.

The squirrel turned back.

"Okay, so on her planet — the Boluriament Empire — they don't usually compliment looks. They compliment strength."

Road Ranger nodded like he understood something deep.

"…Got it."

He didn't get it.

At all.

He stepped forward confidently.

"So… wanna go on a date?"

The squirrel sighed.

"…I'll translate the intent, not the words."

It spoke again to her.

The woman paused.

Then… surprisingly—

She nodded.

Road Ranger froze for a second.

"…Wait. That worked?"

The squirrel shrugged.

"Apparently."

The woman crossed her arms, still serious, but clearly… interested.

And just like that—

Road Ranger accidentally secured a date with a cosmic warrior from another world.

Road Ranger took her to Sunset Boulevard, more specifically Echo Park.

The city lights reflected beautifully on the lake, and for once… things felt calm.

She stood there quietly, looking at the water.

The squirrel translated:

"She says… the lake is beautiful."

Road Ranger wasn't even looking at the lake.

He was looking at her.

"…I think you're beautiful too," he said.

The squirrel sighed but translated it anyway.

She paused.

That kind of compliment… was new.

The squirrel leaned toward Road Ranger and whispered,

"On her planet, the Boluriament Empire, she's part of the imperial family. Her uncle is the emperor. She's considered extremely strong — that's what people admire there. Not looks."

Road Ranger nodded like he understood something important.

"…Makes sense."

He then looked back at her.

"So… what are your powers like?"

She spoke again in her language, calm but confident.

The squirrel translated:

"She says their bodies are vessels of energy. They can take foreign energy and channel it through themselves."

Road Ranger blinked.

"…Show me."

She smirked.

Then—

She lifted off the ground.

No force. No buildup.

Just… flight.

Like gravity simply didn't apply to her.

Her eyes glowed—

—and suddenly, beams shot out.

But not normal beams.

It looked like sunlight itself was being channeled through her eyes, pure energy flowing like it belonged to her.

She hovered there, looking down at him, waiting.

Road Ranger just stared.

Completely mesmerized.

"…That's insane," he said quietly.

For a moment, she looked… proud.

Back on her planet, this kind of power was normal. Expected. No one reacted like this.

But here?

Someone was actually impressed.

And she liked that.

Later, they moved to Crumbs & Whiskers.

A cozy café filled with cats wandering freely.

She looked around, confused but curious as small cats brushed against her legs the place was beautiful looking fluffy rugs and pink cushions

She said something.

The squirrel translated:

"She's asking what these creatures are."

"Cats," Road Ranger said. "They're chill."

She crouched slightly, watching one walk past like it owned the place.

"…Interesting."

Road Ranger then whispered to the squirrel,

"Ask her name."

The squirrel did.

She responded.

The squirrel paused.

"…Yeah I'm not saying all that."

"What?"

"It's something like… sim-kil-al-something. Look, just call her Sam."

Road Ranger nodded immediately.

"Sam it is."

They sat down, playing with the cats while waiting for their drinks. The place had a relaxed atmosphere, a strange contrast to… everything else happening in their lives.

Finally, the coffee arrived finally ofc it took time because the cafe made in different area not near the cat it's pre ordered once you enter since their partner make it.

Road Ranger took a sip, then made a face.

"…My coffee is kinda salty."

He looked at her.

"Can I get some of your cheek sugar?"

The squirrel froze.

"…You're serious?" the squirrels wondered why THEY RENTED THE place for 30 minutes for that thing.

"Translate it."

The squirrel sighed and translated the meaning.

She blinked, confused at first, looking around like she was actually trying to find sugar on the table.

The squirrel quickly explained:

"It's a romantic line."

She paused.

"…Oh."

Then she looked back at Road Ranger.

The squirrel translated her response:

"She says… you're a bit vague."

Road Ranger scratched his head awkwardly.

"…Fair."

He took a breath.

Then just said it directly.

"So… do you wanna go out with me?"

The squirrel translated properly this time.

She looked at him for a moment.

Then responded.

The squirrel turned back to Road Ranger.

"She says… you need to prove your strength first."

Road Ranger blinked.

"…Of course I do."

She stood up slightly, her expression serious now — not hostile, but testing.

On her world…

Strength was everything.

And if he wanted something real—

He had to earn it.

They didn't go far.

Just outside the city, where the lights faded and the open space gave them room.

The air felt different already.

Sam stood across from Road Ranger, calm, composed — like this wasn't even a fight to her.

It was just… evaluation.

The squirrel sat on Road Ranger's shoulder.

"She says," it translated, "don't hold back."

Road Ranger looked around.

"…Yeah, about that…"

He took a step back.

"Pathway… give me something to survive this."

A golden line flickered faintly in front of him.

The fight started.

She moved first.

A blur.

Road Ranger barely reacted in time, opening a small pathway under his feet and shifting himself a few meters back.

Her punch hit the ground—

BOOM.

The shockwave alone knocked him off balance.

"…Okay, yeah, she's not normal," he muttered.

She didn't stop.

She flew up, then came down again, faster this time.

Road Ranger opened another path — this time sideways — slipping through space just before impact.

The ground behind him shattered.

He wasn't fighting.

He was running calculations.

Every movement. Every dodge. Every breath.

"Pathway… something useful," he whispered.

A small portal opened—

—and dropped a metal rod into his hand.

He stared at it.

"…You're joking."

He swung it anyway.

She blocked it with one hand.

Didn't even move.

Then lightly pushed him back.

He slid across the ground.

"…Yeah, okay. That didn't work."

She raised her hand.

Energy gathered.

The same sunlight-like force from before began forming around her eyes.

Road Ranger's eyes widened.

"NOPE."

He opened three rapid pathways in a row, bouncing himself across space as the beam fired, slicing through the ground where he stood seconds ago.

He landed, breathing heavier now.

"…I can't beat her," he admitted quietly.

But he didn't stop.

He kept moving.

Kept dodging.

Kept thinking.

"Pathway… give me a way to win."

Nothing.

"…Of course," he sighed.

Because this wasn't a problem with a shortcut.

This was a test.

So instead—

He stopped running.

She noticed immediately.

He stood there, breathing, tired, but still facing her.

No tricks.

No escape.

Just him.

She flew down and landed in front of him.

For a moment, they just looked at each other.

Then—

She moved.

One clean strike.

He tried to react—

—but he couldn't.

The hit landed.

He dropped to the ground.

Silence.

Dust settled around them.

The squirrel peeked out.

"…You alive?"

Road Ranger groaned.

"…Barely."

Sam walked closer.

She looked down at him.

The squirrel listened, then translated:

"She says… you lost."

Road Ranger closed his eyes.

"…Yeah. I figured."

The squirrel continued:

"But… she also says… you didn't run away."

Road Ranger opened one eye.

"She noticed that?"

"She noticed everything," the squirrel said.

Sam crossed her arms.

She spoke again.

The squirrel paused.

"…Okay, this one's new."

"What?"

"She says… she proved her strength."

Road Ranger blinked.

"…Yeah?"

"And because of that…"

The squirrel looked at him.

"…she's asking you out."

Road Ranger sat up slowly.

"…Wait."

"What?"

"You failed the test," the squirrel said.

"But in her culture… proving strength isn't just about winning."

He pointed at her.

"She proved she's stronger."

"And now… she chooses."

Road Ranger stared at her.

"…That's backwards."

The squirrel shrugged.

"Different planet."

Sam extended her hand.

Not as a challenge this time.

As an invitation.

Road Ranger looked at it.

Then smiled slightly.

"…Yeah," he said, taking her hand.

"I'm not refusing that."

Above them, the sky stretched wide.

And somewhere far beyond it—

A connection had just been made between Earth…

And a cosmic warrior race.

The city was quiet.

Far above it, on a random rooftop, two figures stood under the night sky.

Psychie leaned against the wall, arms crossed, her red aura faintly flickering like a heartbeat.

Across from her, Supergirl floated slightly above the ground, calm… but distant.

The wind passed between them.

"So," Supergirl said, breaking the silence,

"when are you finally going to tell Knighthood about it?"

Psychie didn't answer immediately.

Instead, she tilted her head slightly.

"And when are you going to tell everyone about him?" she replied.

"Emma."

Supergirl's eyes narrowed just a little.

"…Don't."

But Psychie didn't stop.

"Kronos," she continued calmly.

"How long are you going to hold onto that… for the sake of a love that doesn't even exist anymore?"

The air grew heavier.

Psychie's voice stayed steady.

"I understand it. I'm a lover too. I get it."

She pushed herself off the wall, stepping closer.

"But Kronos is a madman now."

A pause.

"He's not the same guy we escaped the facility with."

"He's not the same guy we built the anti-heroes with."

Her eyes locked onto Supergirl's.

"He's Kronos."

"…Not Gamma Burst."

Silence.

For a moment, even the city noise below felt distant.

Supergirl slowly lowered herself until her feet touched the rooftop.

Her expression didn't change much.

But her voice…

"…It's complicated."

Psychie let out a small breath, shaking her head slightly.

"Yeah," she said quietly.

"It always is."

Neither of them spoke after that.

Above them, the sky stretched endlessly.

And somewhere out there—

Old bonds were breaking.

And new conflicts were getting ready to begin.
