Chapter 4 - DANGEROUS ATTRACTION

The moment Lena stepped out of the car, she felt it again—that overwhelming pressure of being watched.

Even though there were no reporters this time, it didn't matter.

People were staring.

The building staff, residents, even strangers passing by—everyone seemed to recognize Aiden Cole. And now, by extension, they were looking at her too.

Whispering.

Judging.

Curious.

Lena straightened her posture unconsciously, trying not to look as out of place as she felt.

Beside her, Aiden walked with his usual calm confidence, like none of it mattered.

Like it never did.

"Do they always stare like this?" she asked under her breath.

"Yes," Aiden replied without hesitation.

Lena exhaled slowly. "I don't think I'll ever get used to it."

"You don't have to," he said. "You just have to endure it."

That didn't sound comforting at all.

Inside the penthouse, everything felt quieter—but not calmer.

If anything, the silence made Lena more aware of everything.

The space.

The distance between them.

The fact that she was now living with a man she barely knew.

Aiden loosened his tie slightly, walking past her as if this was just another normal day.

"You'll adjust," he said.

Lena turned to him. "You say that like I have a choice."

"You don't."

She let out a dry laugh. "At least you're honest."

Aiden didn't respond, but there was something in his expression—something unreadable—that made her pause.

Later that evening, Lena found herself unable to relax.

She wandered toward the massive window, staring out at the glowing city below. Everything looked so beautiful from up here.

Distant.

Untouchable.

Kind of like Aiden.

"You're thinking too much."

His voice came from behind her.

Lena turned slightly, surprised she hadn't heard him approach.

"I don't think I have a choice," she said. "My entire life just changed in less than twenty-four hours."

Aiden stepped closer, stopping just a few feet away.

"You'll survive it."

"That's not very reassuring."

"It's not meant to be."

Lena studied him for a moment, her eyes narrowing slightly.

"Do you ever say anything comforting?"

Aiden held her gaze.

"No."

She shook her head, almost smiling despite herself. "Figures."

There was a pause.

A strange one.

The kind that lingered just a little too long.

Lena became suddenly aware of how close he was.

Too close.

Her heartbeat picked up slightly, and she hated that she noticed.

Hated that her body reacted before her mind could catch up.

Aiden didn't move.

Didn't look away.

His gaze dropped briefly—to her lips—before returning to her eyes.

And just like that—

The air shifted.

Something unspoken.

Something dangerous.

Lena swallowed.

"This… this is part of the act, right?" she asked quietly.

Aiden tilted his head slightly. "What is?"

"This," she said, gesturing weakly between them. "The way you're looking at me."

For a second, something flickered in his eyes.

Something she couldn't quite name.

"Does it matter?" he asked.

"Yes," Lena said quickly. "It does."

Aiden stepped closer.

Now there was barely any space between them.

"It shouldn't," he said softly.

Her breath caught.

And for a moment—

Just a moment—

She forgot everything else.

The deal.

The pressure.

The fact that none of this was real.

All she could focus on…

Was him.

Then—

She stepped back.

Breaking whatever that was.

"This is exactly what I mean," Lena said, her voice slightly unsteady. "You can't just—do that."

"Do what?"

"This!" she snapped, frustrated now. "You act like everything is controlled, like nothing affects you, and then you just—"

She stopped, unable to finish the sentence.

Aiden watched her carefully.

"Then I just what?" he pressed.

Lena shook her head. "Never mind."

But it wasn't never mind.

Not even close.

The next day came with a new wave of chaos.

Lena hadn't even finished breakfast when her phone started buzzing nonstop.

Confused, she picked it up.

And froze.

Her face—

Was everywhere.

Headlines.

Articles.

Photos from yesterday's press conference.

"Mysterious Woman Captures Billionaire Aiden Cole's Heart"

"Who Is Lena?"

"From Nowhere to Fiancée: The Woman Behind the Ring"

Her stomach dropped.

"This is insane," she whispered.

Aiden, sitting across from her, didn't even look surprised.

"It was expected."

"Expected?" she repeated. "They're digging into my life like I'm some kind of public property!"

"They will," he said calmly. "That's how this works."

Lena stared at him in disbelief. "And you're just okay with that?"

"I'm used to it."

"Well, I'm not!" she snapped.

Before he could respond, the doorbell rang.

Aiden stood. "We're not finished with this conversation."

"Oh, we definitely are not," Lena muttered.

He walked toward the door.

And when he opened it—

Her stomach sank again.

The same woman from yesterday stood there.

Perfect.

Composed.

And clearly not going anywhere.

"I see she's still here," the woman said coolly, her eyes flicking toward Lena.

Aiden's expression didn't change. "State your purpose."

"I came to fix your mistake," she replied.

Lena frowned slightly. "Excuse me?"

The woman stepped inside without waiting for permission, her gaze sharp and unwavering.

"You don't belong here," she said directly to Lena. "And I'm going to prove it."

Lena crossed her arms, refusing to back down this time.

"Good luck with that."

The woman's lips curved slightly.

"Oh, I won't need luck."

As tension filled the room once again, Lena felt something shift inside her.

Yesterday, she felt overwhelmed.

Today?

She felt challenged.

And strangely—

Determined.

Because no matter how complicated this deal was…

No matter how dangerous Aiden's world seemed…

She wasn't going to be pushed out so easily.

But what scared her the most wasn't the woman.

Or the media.

Or even the pressure.

It was something else entirely.

Something far more dangerous.

The way her heart reacted whenever Aiden was close.

Because that?

That wasn't part of the deal.
