Tera Vos's house number opened a compartment Mara Ostrohov had kept sealed for thirty-four years.
The number was 8-FAR-19.
Tera knew it as the mark above her grandmother's pump shed. Cairo's oldest recoil ledger assigned it to a field-maintenance worker named Ren Vos.
Mara's route box had reached Cairo through three object transfers after Night Ground. Aren retained custody at every stop and released each route before accepting the next.
The box now sat inside an empty archive room above the passive sight gallery.
Its bottom looked like one sheet of rusted steel. Tera's clay tile showed a nine-hole pump pattern. When Aren placed a paper copy over the steel, nine hidden pins aligned under it.
The false bottom lifted two millimeters.
"Current countersign," Aren said.
Tera watched through the four-centimeter sight gap. Her burned hands rested beside the school cistern.
