The voice inside Caleb's shoulder repeated the count while the bridge families listened.
"Twenty-three current. Keep counting."
Asha Venn's sister stood beside the Cairo examination bed with both hands around a paper cup. Ena Venn had identified Asha's voice from six recorded samples. She had also refused to call the sound Asha.
"Ask about the glove," Ena said.
Caleb kept his left side under a clear isolation hood. Silver threads moved below the opened shoulder groove, close enough to touch the cover and smart enough to stop before contact.
Tali held the bridge roster where every camera could see it.
"Which defender wore one yellow glove?"
The answer came from Caleb's calf.
"Hara Binn is a current survivor with a crushed left foot."
Hara raised her hand from the next bed. The yellow glove lay in an evidence bag on her blanket.
"Asha watched me cross," she said. "That answer proves the bridge carried her record. It proves nothing about where she is."
