The medicine keeper caught the sling before it hit the floor. Her hands closed around empty fabric and felt forty-six kilograms pulling toward Elara.
Elara's current arm weighed far less.
The route carried future load with it.
"Pain?" Kikaru asked.
"Shoulder pulling down. Hand cold. Elbow present. Fingers unclear."
"Current movement?"
Elara tried her thumb.
The sling moved in the other house.
Her visible thumb did not.
Pela held the breathing valve near Elara's left hand. Elara selected one breath, then another. The displaced arm had not taken her airway or spine support.
