The fuel fire held both access stairs. River water entered through the cracked lining and carried burning film across the rails. A rescue crew reached the north service door, felt the heat through its bolts, and stayed outside.
Tali wrote their names beside the door.
"No one enters until the secondary cells read cold."
The crew chief looked at Lio's location on his paper map.
"Could be six hours."
"Then six hours is the cost. Do not call him unrecoverable because the clock is ugly."
The crew chief drew two routes.
North service door reached the engine first but crossed the fuel channel. South pump access stayed dry and required cutting through an old flood gate. He assigned half his crew to cool the north bolts and sent the rest for a manual saw.
Their thermal camera showed one cold pocket beneath the folded deck.
