Azaria arrived at the office earlier than she usually did and before most of the others in the department did. The entire floor was quiet enough that all she could hear was just the soft hum of the air conditioning and the distant sound of the elevator closing somewhere down the hall. She entered her office, shut the door quietly behind her and set her bag down on her desk, then she settled into her chair and booted up her work computer, pushing her glasses back when it moved to the tip of her nose.
She pulled up her emails and started going through them one by one, then she checked the system and made sure everything was on track and on schedule before moving on to other things. She remained focused as the department slowly began to come alive with people coming in for work…or at least she tried to remain focused, because somewhere between the fourth email and the fifth one, the thought of everything that occurred in her life recently slowly crept back into her head.
