"Can I hug you?"
Rebecca blinked. The question caught off-guard.
Lydia stood stiffly in front of her, fingers trembling by her sides as though she regretted asking the moment the words left her mouth.
Her eyes were red. Not from her tears. But from holding them back for too long.
Rebecca didn't know what came over her.
Maybe it was because she saw herself in Lydia.
A girl stuck in the middle of adults' mistakes.
So, Rebecca nodded softly.
Lydia's breath itched slightly. It was pathetic. She was the same age as Rebecca, but she was fearful... unlike the woman who stood in front of her.
Lydia admired her. She stood up to their father. And somehow, last night, she felt relieved. At least, there was someone who could leave her father speechless.
Rebecca took a step forward, wrapping her arms around her.
Lydia froze. Feeling Rebecca's arms wrapped around her caused a warm feeling to flow into her chest.
She felt... safe.
When was the last time she felt... safe?
