I shook my head a little, as if I was clearing out the frustration that had started building in my chest, and then I stepped closer to the machine again with a quiet determination settling inside me.
"No," I said under my breath as I reached for another coin. "I am not leaving this place without getting my own."

"So this is personal now?" he asked.
I let out a small breath, then fed the coin into the machine before answering him.
"It has always been personal," I said, my voice steady, because at that point it really was not just about the toy anymore.
The machine came back to life, the soft hum filling the space again, and I placed my hand on the control carefully, moving it slower this time, paying attention to every small shift like it actually mattered.
