And the more I saw, the more jealous I became. I started avoiding certain parts of the house without even realizing it at first. They were the places where I knew I would find them together, the spaces where their voices would overlap, where her laughter would carry, and where his presence would feel too close to hers.
And on the days I could not avoid it, on the moments when I walked in and saw them together, I could not stop myself from watching. I watched the way she smiled, like she felt comfortable as if she belonged.
And I watched the way he responded, like he allowed it and wanted it. That was the part I could not understand, because I had known him longer. I had been there before she ever was. And yet somehow, she had taken a place beside him that I had never been given.
It did not make sense to me. It never did, and no matter how much I tried to reason with it, the feeling did not change, instead, it grew.
