Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: The Progenitor’s Spark

Chapter 25: The Progenitor's Spark

I stared at the glowing blue prompt hovering in my peripheral vision. The Archangel hummed steadily beneath us, cruising smoothly over the frontier roads, carried by the silent, shimmering cushion of the Magnesser field. Azazel let out a low, metallic trill from his perch on the back of my captain's chair, his optics whirring in anticipation.

I took a deep breath, looked over at Aria, and hit Accept.

The System didn't glitch. It didn't fight us, and it didn't break. Instead, it evaluated the impossible technology surrounding us and accepted the new reality. A cascade of gold text scrolled rapidly across our vision, ringing out with heavy, triumphant chimes.

[PARTY EVALUATION COMPLETE.] [JOINT ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: Masters of the GM Drive] [JOINT ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: Originators of the Organoid] [JOINT ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: Class Progenitors]

[NEW CLASS UNLOCKED: SOUL-FRAME ARCHITECT (NERO ARGENTUM)] [NEW CLASS UNLOCKED: SOUL-FRAME TECHNICIAN (ARIA VEIL)]

The moment the text solidified, my chest seized. My Thunderheart Core—the volatile source of my lightning magic—ignited. But it didn't just discharge; it merged with the framework of the GM Drive. I could feel my internal mana pathways physically rewiring themselves to handle the new frequency.

I threw my head back as my body erupted.

A shockwave of electrified sapphire GM Particles blasted out of me, filling the bridge. Heavy arcs of blue lightning crackled through the dense cloud, grounding themselves into the Soul-Steel decking. It was a completely new power system—infinite, self-sustaining, and perfectly controlled. I gasped for air, the brilliant light sinking back into my skin and leaving my veins glowing faintly blue beneath the surface.

Aria was having her own awakening. She was hovering inches above her seat, enveloped in a cocoon of intricate silver runes and crackling kinetic energy. The System was physically altering her physiology to handle the crushing physical weight of her new class.

The silver light flared and compressed. I could feel the density of the mana settling into her muscles, turning her small frame into a coiled spring of pure, kinetic strength. She hit the seat with a heavy thud, gasping as the light faded from her eyes.

"You okay?" I breathed, leaning forward.

Aria blinked, wiping sweat from her forehead. She flexed her fingers, and the air physically rippled around her knuckles with latent force. A fierce, triumphant smile broke across her face.

"I'm more than okay," she laughed. She swiped her hand, manifesting her updated status between us.

[USER STATUS: ARIA VEIL]

Class: Soul-Frame Technician (Progenitor)

Level: 11

Strength: 85 (+73 Class Bonus)

Intelligence: 135 (+90 Class Bonus)

"A massive jump to Strength and Intelligence," Aria grinned. "Intelligence to calculate spatial dimensions and GM particle dispersal... and raw Strength to withstand the recoil of my hammer while I tune the armor you forge. What did it give you?"

I projected my own screen next to hers.

[USER STATUS: NERO ARGENTUM]

Class: Soul-Frame Architect (Progenitor)

Level: 11

Agility: 95 (+71 Class Bonus)

Intelligence: 155 (+90 Class Bonus)

"Your processing speed is off the charts," Aria noted.

"It has to be," I said. "My nervous system is firing at the speed of lightning. We actually broke the world, Aria."

Before she could agree, the second wave of notifications flooded our HUDs as the constructs evolved.

[OS EVOLUTION: H.A.R.O. -> ORGANOID] [OS EVOLUTION: ANGEL -> SOVEREIGN ORGANOID]

Navigator—the green H.A.R.O. sphere—unlocked from the terminal. His optics shifted from a static red into a warm, deeply expressive glow. He floated up, doing a joyful, erratic spin.

"Nero! Aria! Alive! Alive!" Navigator cheered, his voice losing its metallic stiffness. "Systems optimal! Soul optimal!"

Azazel let out a sharp cry, preening a sparking feather on his chest as his optics blinked with a new, undeniable sapience. Then, the air in the center of the bridge rippled with soft pink light.

A second H.A.R.O. appeared—a translucent, digital projection of soft pink. It drifted lazily, its ear panels lifting just a fraction of an inch, looking toward Aria.

"Sleepy..." a melodic, gentle voice murmured through the bridge speakers. "Too quiet... is everyone... safe?"

Aria stared in wonder. "Angel? You're really awake?"

The pink H.A.R.O. drifted closer, her sensors blinking slowly. She felt like a "Mama Bear" watching over its cubs.

"I am Angel," she whispered. "My body... it's so big, Nero. I can feel the wind on my hull. I'll watch the sensors while you rest."

"Sister awake! Sister awake!" Navigator chirped, bouncing around her. "I am first! I am first!"

Angel's ear panels dropped shut. "Too loud, Brother... always so loud. I'm going back to standby. I'll wake up... if anything tries to hurt us."

She drifted behind my shoulder, her pink glow dimming as she settled into a sleepy hover. Even though she was technically the youngest, her lazy, protective personality was a perfect counterbalance to Navigator's energy.

We had built a pack.

Aria let out a delighted laugh. "So, we broke the rules. We got the classes. The ship is flying itself. What's our first move as Progenitors?"

I stood up, feeling the infinite, electrified pulse of the GM Drive matching the new rhythm of my soul.

"First," I said, "we go down to the hangar and check on the rest of the pack. They have a Mode Switch ability now. Which means we get to build them a second form."
