Chapter 2 - Deku

Notes: The first thing I would like to say is that this is a bit of an AU, as UA is a university here, not a high school. So everyone in Class A is currently 18-19 years old. And yes, Izuku is only 16 now.

---

Deku blinked in confusion when suddenly his Danger Sense sounded the alarm. This was unusual. Usually, he received such a signal only from strong villains, and he had seemingly already dealt with the strongest ones, so that means…

Before Deku could finish his thoughts, lacquered wood immediately began to entangle him.

— Huh?

Deku did not move when strong, tight lacquered branches gripped him firmly. He recognized this move, so he saw no point in evading it. Only one person could possess such a Quirk and be so proficient with it. He slowly turned his head toward the Wooden Hero — Kamui Woods.

The hero himself flinched when the Vigilante's bright green eyes turned toward him. There was something in them that made him shudder.

— Kamui Woods? What are you doing? — Deku asked quite quietly and looked once more at one of the youngest heroes to make it into the Top 20. The hero himself relaxed a bit when he heard his voice. It sounded very young, so he was able to slightly drive away the fear that had gripped him when the vigilante looked at him. — Shouldn't you be preparing for the raid on AFO? — Deku asked, still looking at the pro-hero in confusion.

— I have no idea what you are talking about, Vigilante! — his voice sounded strong, as if he were trying to make sure everyone heard him. A crowd began to gather around them, and many began taking pictures of Kamui and booing Deku. — Publicly using your Quirk and taking the law into your own hands! You are the true embodiment of evil!

Now Deku's gaze darkened, making the hero truly flinch. It was a simply terrifying look.

— I see… — Deku groaned this word, as if in disappointment. — So you are just… another illusion… — these words sounded like an undeniable fact, causing Kamui to frown, looking at his prisoner and gripping him even tighter. He knew that he couldn't get out, but it didn't hurt to be safe. — Illusionist, you made one very important mistake…

And as if the wooden prison were just a cobweb, Deku easily tore through it, causing Kamui to let out a loud cry of pain. His left arm was now completely useless. And then the pro-hero felt someone touch his helmet.

— The real Kamui Woods overcame his passion for theatricality a long time ago, — this was said with cold fury as Deku struck the hero in the stomach. And Kamui's world immediately turned white with pain as a sharp fist sank into him. Deku did not hold him for long and let go. The Wooden Hero fell to the ground like a limp doll, clutching his stomach, trying to learn how to breathe again. It seemed that after a couple of seconds he succeeded, and he raised his gaze. But what he saw made him horrified. Black threads with a green outline emerged from the vigilante, giving him a terrible aura. The threads themselves were bent and broken, writhing like living snakes.

Blackwhip dove straight at him, and the hero only by pure will managed to dodge the first wave. Но his joy did not last long. Another lightning-fast blow to the stomach, and the world around him turned black.

— This illusionist turned out to be much more skillful than it seemed, — Deku thought, tying up the fake hero. — But now it's clear that he cannot fully copy the behavior of heroes. Otherwise, he wouldn't have made such a mistake. Although now, thanks to this, I can distinguish the real ones from the fakes, the main thing is just to monitor their behavior.

Izuku picked up the fake before taking flight. And then he looked around. Faces full of fear and horror looked at him. They were afraid of him… Afraid of his power and what he could do with it. They looked at him just like a… villain.

Izuku Midoriya shuddered before Deku took his place again. He knew he couldn't back down just because of this. No. He couldn't afford such a luxury. Literally everyone depended on him, he couldn't let them down. Not when so much was at stake.

So Deku ignored them and soared into the air. And although the world was completely shrouded in illusion, he was able to understand that the layout of buildings and skyscrapers was exactly the same. The very structure of the city had not changed at all, except that it had returned to its original state and no longer looked like a ghost town. And if the city structure was the same as before, then the police station should be somewhere nearby.

And yes, he would not touch the common folk, because if there is even the slightest chance that there are innocents there, Deku would never in his life attack them.

Detective Naomasa Tsukauchi loves his job very much. Of course, it often exposes him to the unpleasant deeds of many villains, but for the most part, he works in Musutafu. In the shadow of UA. There are still some local villains, but ever since All For One was beaten nearly to death and imprisoned in Tartarus, very few strong villains have dared to appear in the city.

Nezu made an example out of the few who tried.

That bear/mouse/dog hero is terrifying when he is angry.

That is why the detective thinks he heard a very elaborate joke when he was informed that in less than a day, nearly 40 professional heroes from the top hundred had been incapacitated!

He arrives at UA in a crowd of police officers. He quickly leaves the routine work to Sansa, as he is "cordially invited" to Nezu's office. Which is bad, as he expected All Might to meet him first, and he can think of very few reasons why the Symbol of Peace is in no hurry to greet his old friend. But then he sees Sir Nighteye waiting at the office entrance, and his reaction quickly changes from surprise to ill-concealed panic.

— Mirai. — He nods to the professional hero. They fought together against the Symbol of Evil, gradually helping to destroy his empire. A few years of minimal contact had changed little. They respect each other's skills and dedication to their work.

— Naomasa. — He receives a meager nod in response. Sir Nighteye is not the most expressive of people. He knows so much.

The detective tries to gauge how bad the situation is. Judging by the expression on Nighteye's face (which he has seen many, many times during their campaign against All For One), it seems to be an eleven on a scale of one to ten.

— Is he… — The words do not come out. But the hero understands.

— He is fine, at least physically.

This raises the danger bar from eleven to fifteen.

The door opens. Recovery Girl looks out.

All Might, frankly, looks like crap. Which is quite reassuring, since he has looked that way since he fought his nemesis. There are no new wounds, but he is clearly exhausted and vomits blood from time to time.

Nezu is there too. He is working on a laptop (either checking security footage or plotting the downfall of humanity). Drinking tea, of course. When Naomasa looks at his old friend, All Might shows him four fingers.

Fourth tea. Fifteen turns into fifty. If he were the object of Nezu's wrath (with such intensity), he would spare himself the pain and kill himself on the spot.

— So can someone explain to me what happened? — Naomasa asks. It sounds like a better option than waiting for All Might and Sir Nighteye to acknowledge his presence in the room. These two are just painful to look at.

— A villain attack, — Nezu says. It's something in the rare movements of his nose, but Naomasa clearly saw how this situation gave him pleasure in a sense. — And what's most interesting… our Mr. Villain has several Quirks.

At that moment, Naomasa's stomach does a somersault.

Those fifty just became a round hundred.

— I have just called the Hero Commission, and an urgent order was issued to capture this villain. Heroes ranked 2 to 5 will be sent for his capture. And also, mobilize Class 2-A.

— Sir, are you sure? After all, they are still...

— Yes, I am sure, they have already fully proven themselves and they are much stronger than many professionals.

— At least some of them, — Toshinori thought to himself as he looked haunted at the video recording where this villain easily destroys Kamui Woods like a child. And also this set of Quirks — it reminded him very much of… One For All.

He grit his teeth as it seemed his stomach hurt even more. After his recent battle with AFO, his health had become even more precarious. But that didn't mean he was completely useless. He still had 30 minutes on a daily basis.

And he would use them to the full.

---

— Now listen to me carefully, — Aizawa-sensei entered one of the training grounds where the entire Class 2-A was told to gather. He cast a long look over them all, checking if each of them was listening to him. — Surely you have already heard about him, but… — at that moment, an image of a battle appears on the screen behind Aizawa. Or rather… the beating of a child. An unknown villain in a green jumpsuit with a scary-looking mask simply beat one of the most prominent heroes of the younger generation!

Izumi slightly opened her mouth at the strange similarity of their costumes. And although the villain's face was not visible, she was somehow sure that he had green hair. And once again — this monstrous similarity of their costumes. This was cause for concern. And also his Quirk. It's quite possible that he, like her, has some form of telekinesis that allows him to both strengthen his blows and speed, as well as fly. It's quite possible that he has somatic telekinesis that completely improves every physical aspect of him, and those black whips are surely his support equipment that he can manipulate thanks to limited general telekinesis…

Her mumbling was stopped by a light kick to her shin. She let out a soft squeak of pain and sent a resentful look at her rival/friend. Katsumi Bakugo only looked at her gloomily.

— You're mumbling again, nerd, — the blonde with long spiky hair snorted before turning away from Izumi.

— Ah, sorry, Kacchan, — Izumi Midoriya said awkwardly, scratching the back of her head. A nervous tick she developed because of her not-so-good childhood.

Not that she was bullied much. In fact, it all stopped when her Telekinesis Quirk awakened at the age of 6, like her mother's, but much stronger. After that, the bullying stopped. Although some nervous habits still remain.

— You will all be mobilized just like the top five heroes, so be ready, — Aizawa-sensei said before pulling out some sheet. — And be careful. He has already been assigned an S-rank.

At that moment, some of her classmates let out a nervous sigh. Another S-class villain on their account. The last one was Kai Chisaki, the head of the Shie Hassaikai Yakuza clan. And the fight with him was very difficult, both for her class and for the pro-heroes. That fight made Izumi's whole body shudder. If it weren't for Mirio-senpai, it's quite possible she would have simply died there.

— This villain isn't hiding at all, and he is under constant surveillance. Now, I ask you all to put on your costumes and wait at the takeoff pad.

And as they began to leave, Izuku noticed her close friends, in the persons of Momo, Kacchan, Iida, and Uraraka, approaching her.

— Midoriya-chan, are you okay? — Momo asked her. Concern was written on the face of the heiress to the Yaoyorozu Corporation. The greenette just shook her head.

— She's worried because of the similarity between herself and this villain, — Katsumi quickly outed her. Izumi threw a dirty look at her, but the blonde simply smirked at her. — Although this can be attributed to coincidence, the similarities are too obvious. He even has those rabbit ears that the nerd made as a tribute to All Might's hairstyle. — Katsumi positioned her hands as if copying that very "tribute."

Izumi just snorted resentfully.

— Well, unless you have some long-lost twin brother, I think it's just a coincidence, — said Mina Ashido, who had just recently joined their conversation.

— No-no, I'm an only child in the family! — the girl fiercely denied, apparently not understanding the joke, causing Bakugo to simply make her famous facepalm gesture.

— I still think you need to grow a spine when it doesn't involve battles, — Katsumi muttered, earning another resentful look from her friend. — But now is not the time. We have a mission.

At that, the conversation was completely finished as all the hero students began changing into their costumes.
