Chapter 36 - CHAPTER 36

Chapter 36 The Arrival of the Extras

The two Yugito covered their faces, their cheeks flushing slightly. Chinatsu, meanwhile, blinked blankly. Although she knew she was beautiful, her self-perception was completely different from how others perceived her.

Chinatsu's beauty was universally acknowledged by the residents of Konoha. As a survivor of the Uchiha clan, her temperament and appearance carried the natural refinement associated with that once-prestigious family. If it weren't for the political tension surrounding the Uchiha after the massacre led by Itachi Uchiha, the village's older women would probably have already brought their sons and grandsons to propose marriage to her.

Men and women, young and old…she was irresistible!

The two Yugito Nii had been too tense earlier to notice Chinatsu's face clearly. Now that the immediate danger had subsided, and with the Two-Tails' chakra no longer flaring violently around her body, she finally had the clarity to observe Chinatsu properly.

For a brief moment, she even questioned her own composure.

While exaggerated… it was still understandable given she was from Kumogakure, a village known for its militaristic culture and emphasis on strength, where aesthetics were rarely a priority compared to raw power.

"Ahem, sorry, I was just too tense earlier. Ever since the diplomatic incident with Konoha involving the attempted kidnapping of Hinata Hyuga, things haven't been peaceful. I hope you can understand," Yugito Nii said, clearing her throat, her tone returning to that of a seasoned jōnin.

"It's alright, it's alright. Although I don't remember many things, I still remember basic common sense. You are… Yugito Nii-sama, the jinchūriki of the Two-Tails, right?!"

Chinatsu stood up, brushing the dust from her clothes as she seamlessly shifted into admiration mode, carefully choosing words that aligned with known intelligence about Kumogakure.

Unlike blind flattery, this praise was grounded in fact.

Yugito Nii, one of the few jinchūriki capable of controlling her tailed beast, Matatabi, was an elite among elite.

Hearing this, Yugito's expression softened slightly. Praise from strangers meant nothing but recognition combined with apparent familiarity was different.

Seeing that the difficulty of winning Yugito's trust had slightly decreased, Chinatsu felt a surge of relief, though she didn't let it show. She continued speaking naturally, reinforcing her fabricated identity piece by piece.

The guard around Yugito lowered but only slightly.

A jinchūriki trained by Kumogakure would never completely trust someone without verification.

Still, for Chinatsu, this level of trust was already enough.

The two began moving toward Kumogakure, traversing the mountainous terrain of the Land of Lightning. The jagged cliffs and narrow valleys made ambushes both difficult to detect and deadly when executed properly.

As they traveled, Chinatsu carefully maintained her persona her speech, her reactions, even the subtle inconsistencies of someone supposedly suffering from memory loss.

Yugito thought: What a pitiful child. If she truly lost her memories during a mission, the village should help her recover them.

Chinatsu thought: What do I do? At this rate, once we reach Kumogakure, I'm finished.

Her mind raced continuously.

Running away now would expose everything.

Staying meant eventual exposure.

"Calm down… I need to stay calm."

Chinatsu kept her expression steady as dusk gradually fell, shadows stretching across the valley. The environment grew quieter too quiet.

Then

Yugito suddenly stopped.

Her arm instinctively moved in front of Chinatsu, blocking her path.

"Wait."

The atmosphere changed instantly.

The faint but unmistakable sensation of hostile chakra spread through the area.

The chakra surrounding Yugito began to stir dark blue, flame-like energy flickering subtly around her body, the unmistakable manifestation of Matatabi's chakra cloak.

Enemy presence.

Chinatsu immediately understood.

Earlier, when she found Yugito injured, it had already implied a prior battle. Now, it was clear the attackers had returned.

But instead of panic…

Chinatsu's lips curved slightly.

Opportunity.

Finally.

"Watch out," Yugito said coldly.

At that moment

Whoosh!

A poisoned shuriken shot out from the darkness.

It struck Yugito

 and bounced off harmlessly.

The chakra cloak formed by the Two-Tails completely nullified the attack.

Even injured, Yugito Nii was still a high-level jōnin with jinchūriki-level combat ability.

The next second

The ground beneath her cracked open.

An enemy shinobi burst upward, kunai in hand, aiming directly at her torso.

Yugito reacted instantly.

She sidestepped, grabbed his head with one hand, and slammed it into the ground with overwhelming force.

Boom!!!

The impact alone was enough to incapacitate him.

Before she could reposition

Two more enemy ninja appeared from both sides, forming hand seals rapidly.

But they never finished.

The sheer pressure emitted by Yugito's chakra disrupted their concentration.

Meanwhile

Chinatsu stood just behind Yugito.

Completely ignored.

Chinatsu: …Not even targeting me?

Her lips twitched slightly.

Fine. If you won't involve me… I'll involve myself.

Her eyes shifted

Three tomoe Sharingan spun silently within her pupils.

Enhanced perception activated instantly.

She spotted it.

Another hidden ninja, crouched at a distance, preparing a chakra-infused kunai.

Ninja: Perfect chance.

Chinatsu: Perfect chance.

The kunai was thrown.

Whoosh!!!

It cut through the air aimed directly at Yugito's back.

Yugito sensed it instantly and began to turn

 but someone moved faster.

Chinatsu.

Without hesitation, she threw herself forward

A perfectly timed, overly dramatic, utterly deliberate sacrifice.

Thud!

The kunai pierced her waist.

Blood splattered outward.

Everything froze.

Yugito's eyes widened.

Even the attacking ninja froze in disbelief.

Ninja: …Did she just jump into that on purpose?!

Chinatsu: …Why is it ALWAYS my waist?!

She collapsed to the ground, blood spreading rapidly beneath her.

Yugito's pupils shrank.

For a brief moment

Silence.

Then

The chakra erupted.

Dark blue flames surged violently outward, expanding into a massive, feline silhouette.

Two tails swayed behind it.

The ground trembled.

The air burned.

The manifestation of the Two-Tails Matatabi took form around Yugito's body.

And this time

There was no restraint.
