Nina's face flushed so hot she felt entirely certain she was radiating heat, like an ember someone had just fanned back to life. Overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of what had just happened, she did the only thing she could think of: she buried her face deep into the crook of Lucas's neck, completely refusing to look up at him, as if hiding might somehow undo the last ten minutes.
Her heart hammered against her ribs, each beat a fresh reminder of how thoroughly she had lost herself. She could feel the rapid thud of his pulse too, beating just as unsteadily beneath her lips, and that small proof of his own undoing gave her the tiniest bit of comfort.
Lucas let out a low, vibrating chuckle, the sound rumbling pleasantly against her cheek. "Are you shy, wifey?"
"Shut up," she muttered against his skin, her voice muffled but laced with absolute embarrassment.
