Chapter 18 - Chapter 17: Hunter System

The following day l decided to skipped training for once and enjoy nature's beauty, l was sitting outside from home reading 'The First Generation book' for more practise tips, but today changed. It was time for something more epic and intense, learning about the outside world, expanding my knowledge is the basic requirements, who knows what l might find. To my surprise, the book actually spoke about: Nations; Monsters; Hunters; and more. It was time for info dump.

"Hunter System."

The first topic. Hunters were occupation people took to earn a decent income. They are assigned on difficult quest that cost their lives, battling against monsters that rank higher, or even travelling in dangerous regions. They must have skills, fully master in their fighting style, stronger gift, and even engage in a larger party. That's your typical fantasy trope.

Hunters are legal by law, but, if one doesn't have a 'Hunters ID' they are not permitted to travel abroad or partake in quests. If found, y'all be sentenced to a year in prison. Acquiring an ID isn't difficult, one must sign a contract and complete a simple task. Everything comes with a fee of: 7,000 Gil.

"I'm not familiar with this world's currency, but seven thousand is a lot. Quite too much for a simple ID, capitalism is crazy."

Hunters take missions according to their current ranks: F; B; C; and D.These were known as Novice level. Rank: E and A.These were known as Professional level. Rank: S and Z. These were known as Elite level. Then they were rankings after completing first grade level, which pressed on higher authority ranks. Second grade rankings were the same as first grade, but with spice added to it. Ranks: F; B; C; and D. Were known as Beast level. Ranks: E and A. Were known as King level. Ranks: S and Z. These were known as Sage class level. Third grade rankings didn't include minor ranks. Rank: E and A. Were known as Legendary. Rank: S. Was known as Demon. Rank: SS. Was known as Divine. Then, Rank: Z. Was known as Emperor. Finally, we've fourth grade rankings. Which only consisted of Rank Z known as God level.

Attaining these levels and rankings as a Hunter was difficult than it looked, people would often avoid rising their ranks because of how extremely difficult the quest becomes, with a lower chance of survival. The hunter association were responsible for the rankings.

Those names alone sent shivers down my spine. I'm feeling excited to one day embark on a journey and probably become a Hunter and showcase my skills with other strong Hunters.

Every nation had their own laws on hunters, most laws were being fifteen to participate in hunters activity. "Oh, come!" It was to avoid the worse possible outcome, it made sense because the probability of seeing the next day were close up to seventy-five percent. Yeah, this job is dangerous. "Just how strong could the energy their facing be? I'm more concerned on that idea." Monsters were also classified the same rankings as hunters, God level monster? What ability does one have to destroy something with an omniscient ranking, could l even reach that level if l tried? Who could say.

Monsters have different shape and size. Scaling from a goblin to a warrior skeleton. They acted differently with some having intelligence, or obtaining large amount of profound energy. Monsters after defeat dropped insane items, these items can be used for trade, receiving heavy amount Of Gil, the item's could also be used to create weapons. Some of these items had power ups, likely some stones that gives you enhance speed, the item's differ depending on the monster type. An example could be the tree man. They are found in every single country, known for their surprise attack and ganging up on lone travellers. They were more specifically found in regions were forest were dominant, even smaller scale forest. They were Novice level, but their shear number alone is frightening.

"Wait... Dominant forest?" I whispered weakly, "there's a possibility l might encounter one. Tongue slip!"

I remember father telling me a tale about a place that had a large number of monsters roaming around, it was a place filled with dangerous traps and restrictions, it was a place where the rarest item were found. Such as powerful swords, and even forbidden keys. Hunters from all around the world would venture through this dreadful place, hoping to receive big money.

There goes a story about the lost hunter, David that travelled through the place with his entire team, they were skilled swordsman. They were on a quest to rescue their friend, who was captured as they battling monsters of the forest. They entered the place feeling confident they would triumph.

Upon arrival, they encountered what seemed to be an animal inside a tree, hybrid version of the two. The monster was said to contain extraordinary profound energy compared to other monsters. David and his team battled the beast with all their might, the battle was harsh as they were in a disadvantage. The monster was said to absorb their energy as they kept attacking, gifts were hopeless at this situation, swords became a greater asset. The fierce beast ran away, leaving the lads at critical conditions. One hunter was poisoned, the other lost an arm, while the other remained an empty cage and died.

It was a first encounter, not knowing what was next.

The place stretched out so far, David couldn't predict the actual size. He was worried about his friends, and his other friend they were going to save. It was an option to either go back and survive to tell the next day, or continue pressing on rather than cowering away. Most of the team chose the first option, but David chose the second option. He was the captain of group after all.

As they arrived at the lowest floor, they encountered a pool of blood. It was gruesome that even David begun puking, the stanch was strong that he couldn't stay for too long. Shortly after, they found their lost teammate standing infront of a huge door. David called out to him, the friend yell "help me over here!" This grew suspicion, the distance between both wasn't far ahead. David's instincts told him not to step forward, but he did either ways.

In a flicker, David found his body collapsing on the ground unable to move around, calling for help was impossible as his friends saw him struggle stretching his hand. The group ran for their lives. While the lost friend came up close to David and smashed his head like a tomato.

The group that escaped lived to tell the tale of David, a reckless-brave warrior that fought his way to rescue his friend. Only for him to be an imposter. The place was then left untouched for years, for how dangerous it was, the judge adviced none to even step foot.

The place was called "Whisky cave."

"Spooky stories sends shivers, the book was interesting, but father didn't want me having it."

For whatever reasons, can't a guy satisfy his curiosity? Anyways, back on topic.

Monsters didn't change meaning to their existence, no matter where you wind up in, monsters would still be known as the embodiment of fear and destruction. They come in different variations, number, and size. Monsters were famously, or terrifyingly known to consume divine energy from other living beings. Divine energy was a type of food source to them, they'll drain you empty. Tree man for example, sucked out divine energy from humans by attaching their seeds to them, slowly growing inside, it absorbs energy till there is nothing remaining.

"Which is way the court of law announces that, one should acquire the ability of divine barrier."

Without that ability, you were regarded as dead in the battle field.

Monsters covered ninty-five percent of the world's population. The 'Hell continent' was known to be home to these ferocious beings, packed in a large scale. Protection is a top priority for everyone, Hunters were no exception. Like it said before, hunters choose the job to fight monsters not protect or save other nations. Fighting monsters within their region might've been considered protecting, but with limits. There are groups that are sent throughout the world to protect the weak, battle off the monsters delivering peace.

They were known as "Heavenly Knights" swordsman assigned by the ruler of the world.

They were international police of this world, arresting the illegal and vanquishing evil. They were second grade ranked. And a master class in swordsmanship. Superior than any hunters rank, they had the ability to cancel other hunters. Meaning, removing their status.

Knights were classified in five sectors: Heavenly Knights; Imperial Knights; Holy Knights; Silver Knights; and Dragon Knights.

Heavenly Knights as previously mentioned, they bring protection in multiple countries, found in hellish regions where monsters commonly reside. Sent by the ruler of the world.

Imperial Knights differ completely from Heavenly Knights. They were responsible for protecting only the royal families.

Silver Knights were the same as Imperial Knights, the only difference were their ranks being lower than Imperial Knights. They would often be guardian of the gates, protecting the nation from any Hunters that came by.

Holy Knights were responsible for the laws and regulations, they were originally named as "the judge." Found in the entire world, no one can see them until you've done something wrong, they were unpredictable, strong, and fearsome. They possessed gifts beyond imagination, once a rule is set, there isn't defying it.

Holy Knights sound like the troublesome, your typical government, but this time, they can sense your behaviour using divine energy. In my old life, people often break laws and they are never caught, unless someone reports to the police. The holy Knights don't need words from the citizens, they're always watching like a hawk. Does this world even have crime to begin with? I'm surprised they don't dispose the monsters if they possessed such power. Whatever the case, l don't want to start trouble with these types, or my ass will wind up in jail.

"Huh? There isn't information about Dragon Knights, l wonder if it was removed from the book... Nope, the page numbers follow up."

Forbidden information?

Quite possible.

Let's not think much of that, the holy Knights might be listening.

Hey, holy Knights. I'm not putting much thoughts about Dragon Knights, so let me live in peace. Tongue slip.

I forgot to mention. Apparently, sword technique had classified ranks, they were set the same as Hunters and Monsters ranks. For example, air slash is classified as First Grade Novice level: Rank D. I so happen to master a last rank technique. This book talks about other techniques like, Ace, classified as Second Grade Beast level: Rank C. It was a technique that allowed the user to cut anything in a hundred metre radius, requiring fast movement and quick thinking. It also took a large toll on your swords durability, according to the book, it didn't better which generation your sword technique followed. Ace, could still be used regardless.

They were other techniques that contained Elite tier ranks, professional, and even novice rankings. My technique Flowing flower's classified as... First grade Professional level: Rank E. Why am l blushing!

Ahem!

It seems not all techniques can be taught, it soly depends on the generation sword technique you followed, which was a pain in the eye.

"Hold up! I remember something." I spoke out as a memory had been unlocked, quickly flipping the page and reaching at the topic of The First Generation, my eyes widened.

"The first generation sword technique" was known as the beginning of all techniques, allowing the user to create other techniques. This followed the rise of other generation, this generation didn't have a specific technique one can follow, allowing them to explore other variety of techniques.

"In conclusion, l can learn any other techniques that l want without restrictions. First generation is so cool."

Heck.

I wonder how many people chose to follow this generation because of the zero restrictions. But, why do l care.

This book has another technique l can learn, falls under the first grade, Rank: A. Flash stab. Alright, time for training.

First things first, l left the book inside the house where l caught mother cleaning.

I waved goodbye at her and left off to Ken's training room to begin learning a new technique.
