Chapter 32 - Chapter -32

The Girl by the River

The morning sun rose slowly over the green fields of Greenwood Village.

Soft golden light spread across the land, touching every leaf and every drop of dew resting on the crops.

Arjun stood at the edge of his farm, holding a wooden hoe in his hand.

He looked over the wide field with quiet satisfaction.

The crops were growing well this season.

The soil felt rich and healthy.

And for the first time in many years, hope lived inside his heart again.

Life had not always been kind to him.

After losing his father and struggling through years of poverty, Arjun had almost given up on his dream of rebuilding the farm.

But now, step by step, everything was changing.

The villagers respected him.

The harvest was improving.

And his small wooden house finally felt like home.

Yet something inside him still felt incomplete.

A strange emptiness.

A silent loneliness.

He could not explain it, but he felt it every evening when the sun disappeared behind the hills.

That morning, Arjun decided to check the irrigation canal near the river.

He placed his tools on his shoulder and began walking along the narrow dirt path that led through the tall grass.

Birds chirped softly above him, and the cool wind carried the scent of fresh soil.

As he approached the riverbank, he noticed something unusual.

A figure.

Someone was sitting near the water.

From a distance, he could see long dark hair flowing gently in the breeze.

The person wore a simple white dress that moved softly with the wind.

Arjun slowed his steps.

The village was usually quiet in the early morning.

Few people came to the river at this hour.

Curiosity pulled him closer.

When he reached the riverbank, the figure turned slightly.

It was a young woman.

Her face looked pale but beautiful, like moonlight touching calm water.

Her eyes were deep and gentle, yet filled with sadness.

She seemed lost in thought.

Arjun stopped a few steps away, unsure whether to speak.

For a moment, silence hung between them.

Only the soft sound of flowing water filled the air.

Finally, he cleared his throat.

"Are you alright?" he asked gently.

The woman looked up at him.

Her eyes met his.

And in that instant, something strange happened.

A sudden warmth passed through Arjun's chest.

Not pain.

Not fear.

But a quiet, unfamiliar feeling.

The woman blinked slowly, as if returning from a distant dream.

"I… I think so," she replied softly.

Her voice sounded weak, yet calm.

Arjun noticed small scratches on her hands and dust on the edge of her dress.

She looked tired.

Very tired.

"Did you get lost?" he asked.

She hesitated before answering.

"Maybe," she said quietly.

Arjun studied her carefully.

He had lived in this village his entire life, and he knew almost everyone who lived nearby.

But he had never seen her before.

Not once.

"Where are you from?" he asked.

The woman lowered her gaze.

Silence returned again.

Then she whispered:

"I don't remember."

Arjun frowned slightly.

"You don't remember?"

She shook her head slowly.

Her eyes filled with confusion.

"I woke up near the forest last night," she explained.

"My head hurt… and everything felt dark."

Her voice trembled.

"I tried to remember my home… my family… my name."

A tear slipped down her cheek.

"But nothing came back."

Arjun felt a sudden wave of sympathy.

The fear in her voice sounded real.

Honest.

She was not pretending.

She was truly lost.

He looked around the empty riverbank and then back at her fragile figure.

Leaving her alone here felt wrong.

Very wrong.

"You can come to my house," he said firmly.

The woman looked surprised.

Her eyes widened slightly.

"You don't even know me," she said.

Arjun smiled gently.

"That's true," he replied.

"But I know one thing."

He paused for a moment.

"No one deserves to be alone."

The wind blew softly across the river.

Sunlight reflected on the water like tiny pieces of gold.

For several seconds, the woman remained silent.

Then, slowly, she nodded.

"Thank you," she whispered.

They walked together along the narrow path back to the farm.

The journey felt quiet but comfortable.

Arjun carried her small bundle of belongings while she walked beside him carefully.

Occasionally, their shoulders brushed lightly against each other.

Each time it happened, Arjun felt that same strange warmth again.

A gentle pull.

A quiet connection.

He did not understand it.

But he could not ignore it.

When they reached the farmhouse, Arjun opened the wooden door and stepped aside.

"Please come in," he said.

The woman entered slowly, looking around with curiosity.

The house was simple.

Clean.

Warm.

A small kitchen stood in one corner, and a wooden table sat near the window.

Sunlight filled the room, making everything feel peaceful.

"This place feels safe," she said softly.

Her voice carried relief.

Arjun felt a small smile form on his face.

"I'm glad," he replied.

He prepared a warm bowl of rice and vegetables and placed it on the table.

The woman sat down carefully and began eating.

At first, she moved slowly.

But soon, hunger took over.

She ate faster.

Arjun watched quietly, feeling both concern and comfort.

She must not have eaten for a long time.

When she finished, she looked up at him with gratitude shining in her eyes.

"Thank you," she said again.

Arjun nodded gently.

"You should rest," he suggested.

"I'll prepare a room for you."

The woman hesitated for a moment.

Then she spoke softly:

"Before that… may I ask something?"

"Of course," Arjun replied.

She looked directly into his eyes.

A gentle expression appeared on her face.

"If I don't remember my name…"

She paused.

"Can you give me one?"

The question surprised him.

He thought carefully.

Then he looked outside the window.

The river sparkled under the bright morning sun.

Birds flew across the sky.

Nature felt calm.

Peaceful.

Beautiful.

A soft idea formed in his mind.

He turned back toward her and smiled.

"How about… Maya?"

The woman repeated the name quietly.

"Maya."

The sound felt natural on her lips.

Warm.

Familiar.

She smiled for the first time.

A soft, gentle smile that brightened the entire room.

"I like it," she said.

That evening, after the sun disappeared behind the hills, Arjun stepped outside to check the animals.

The sky turned deep blue, and stars began to appear one by one.

Everything felt calm.

Peaceful.

Normal.

But inside the house—

Something unusual happened.

As Maya rested on the bed, her hand moved slightly.

A faint glow appeared around her fingers.

Soft.

Silver.

Mysterious.

The light flickered gently, like moonlight dancing in the darkness.

For a brief moment, strange symbols formed in the air above her palm.

Ancient.

Magical.

Unknown.

Then—

The glow disappeared.

And silence returned.

Maya continued sleeping peacefully.

Unaware of the secret power hidden inside her.

Unaware that her arrival would change Arjun's life forever.
