Scene: "You Never Listen"
Jayjay's POV
I decide today—
I'm going to try.
Properly.
---
Not just small things.
Not just staying quiet.
---
No.
Today, I'm going to be that girlfriend.
---
The normal one.
---
So I find him.
Of course he's working.
Always working.
---
"Keifer."
---
No response.
---
I walk closer.
"Keifer."
---
Still nothing.
---
I lean over slightly.
"…baby?"
---
He exhales, not even looking up.
"What?"
---
"I'm bored."
---
"I'm working."
---
"I know, but—"
---
"Jay."
---
That tone.
Short. Sharp.
---
I pause.
Then smile anyway.
---
"Five minutes?"
---
"No."
---
I blink.
---
"…okay."
---
I step back.
But not for long.
---
A little later
I come back.
---
"Do you want coffee?"
---
"No."
---
"Tea?"
---
"No."
---
"Food?"
---
"No."
---
I stare at him.
---
"…do you want anything?"
---
"No, Jay."
---
I sigh.
---
Later again
I sit near him.
Swinging my legs.
Humming softly.
---
He ignores me.
---
I tap his pen.
---
"Jay."
---
I spin his chair slightly.
---
"Jay."
---
I smile.
---
"Look at me for one second."
---
"I am looking at my work."
---
I lean closer.
Right into his space.
---
"Now look at me."
---
That's when—
He snaps.
---
"Can you stop?" his voice raises suddenly.
---
I freeze.
---
"I'm working!" he continues.
"Why do you keep interrupting everything?"
---
Silence.
---
My smile fades slowly.
---
"I was just—"
---
"I said not now," he cuts me off.
---
His voice is louder now.
Sharper.
---
Like I'm actually… bothering him.
---
And something in my chest cracks a little.
---
"…I'm trying," I say quietly.
---
He doesn't respond.
Still frustrated.
---
So I look at him properly.
For the first time today.
---
"I'm trying so hard for a normal relationship," my voice trembles slightly.
---
He finally looks at me.
---
"You say you are too…" I continue.
"…but you don't even try."
---
Silence.
---
That hits.
I can see it.
---
But it's too late now.
---
I step back.
---
"…never mind."
---
And I walk away.
