The warning horns echoed across Shadowveil Spire like the howl of hungry beasts. Kaiser Warborn strode through the grand halls with long, purposeful steps, his tall frame cutting an imposing figure in the black and crimson attire. The clothes hugged his sculpted muscles perfectly, but it was his face — godly handsome, sharp and aristocratic, with midnight-black hair framing piercing crimson eyes — that made servants and guards alike freeze mid-motion. He radiated raw, chaotic presence, like a storm given flesh.
Seraphina Voss kept pace beside him, her silver hair swaying, hand resting on her sword hilt. She stole glances at him, noting the distorted, savage grin already forming on his lips. The man moved like he had been born for war, not like someone who had awakened mere hours ago.
Duke Valerian and a contingent of Voss elite knights joined them at the outer battlements. Below, the root-bridge leading into Voss territory shimmered with defensive runes, but across the chasm, golden light blazed — the unmistakable holy radiance of Aurelian Crusaders.
There were at least two hundred of them: armored paladins in gleaming white-and-gold plate, wielding blessed swords and shields etched with sun motifs. At their head rode a tall woman on a luminous warhorse. She wore ornate armor that accentuated her athletic yet curvaceous form, with flowing golden-blonde hair and eyes like molten sunlight. A massive holy greatsword rested across her back. She was breathtaking — the kind of divine beauty that inspired fanatical devotion and hopeless longing in equal measure. A Saintess or high-ranking Paladin Commander, no doubt.
The Crusaders had stopped at the edge of the bridge, their leader raising a gauntleted hand to halt the advance.
Duke Valerian's voice boomed with vampiric authority. "Aurelian dogs! You trespass on Voss lands. Turn back or face annihilation."
The golden-haired woman's voice rang clear and righteous, carrying across the abyss with holy power. "I am Commander Lumina Vale of the Holy Order of the Eternal Sun. We have tracked Voidborn corruption to this region. Surrender any tainted blood sources and submit to purification, or we will cleanse this den of night creatures by holy fire."
Kaiser leaned against the battlement, arms crossed, observing everything with lazy crimson eyes. He let out a low chuckle.
"Purification, huh? Sounds like code for 'we'll kill everyone who doesn't pray to our shiny god.'"
Seraphina shot him a warning look, but there was amusement in her eyes.
Lumina's gaze snapped upward, locking onto the group. Her golden eyes widened slightly as they landed on Kaiser — not just at his presence, but at the unnatural, perfect beauty that seemed to defy the eternal twilight. For a fraction of a second, her holy aura flickered.
"Who is that man?" she demanded. "His aura… it reeks of ancient corruption, yet… pure power."
Kaiser didn't wait for introductions. He vaulted over the battlement in one fluid motion, landing lightly on the root-bridge despite the deadly drop below. Crimson mist trailed from his form as he walked forward alone, completely exposed between the two forces.
The Voss knights tensed. Seraphina's hand tightened on her sword. "Kaiser!"
He ignored them, stopping midway across the bridge. His voice carried easily, deep and brutally honest.
"Name's Kaiser Warborn. New around here. Just woke up today, actually. Honest truth? I don't give a shit about your holy war or your night empire squabbles. But you're threatening people I'm currently staying with. That makes it my business."
Lumina's warhorse shifted uneasily. She dismounted gracefully, drawing her greatsword. Holy flames licked along the blade. "You stand with the creatures of darkness? Your very eyes burn with vampiric corruption. Surrender, stranger, and perhaps the Goddess will show you mercy."
Kaiser's distorted smile appeared — that savage, terrifying grin that didn't reach his glowing eyes. It was the same expression Victor might have worn when facing idiots who thought they could dictate terms.
"Mercy? From a god who sends fanatics to burn people for existing in the dark? Funny." He took another step forward, power beginning to crackle around him. "Here's the truth, Lumina Vale: You're beautiful. The kind of beauty that makes weak men want to kneel and strong ones want to possess. That armor looks good on you, but it hides a woman who probably believes her own propaganda. I respect conviction. I don't respect stupidity."
Gasps rippled from both sides. No one spoke to a Holy Commander like that.
Lumina's cheeks flushed with anger, her golden eyes blazing. "Insolent heretic! Your words drip with darkness."
Kaiser laughed, the sound rich and chaotic. "Darkness? Lady, I just got here. But if protecting what I decide is mine makes me dark, then sure. Call me whatever helps you sleep. Now, here's what's going to happen: You turn around, take your shiny army home, and we all avoid unnecessary blood today. Or…"
Crimson energy exploded around him. The root-bridge trembled as blood mist formed into razor-sharp constructs — blades, whips, and floating orbs of boiling hemomancy. His presence swelled, carrying the echo of the First Progenitor mixed with raw, unfiltered will.
"…we do this the fun way. I'll tell you exactly why charging a man who refuses to kneel is a stupid fucking idea while I break your toys."
One of the paladins roared and charged, holy light flaring around his sword.
Kaiser moved.
Not with practiced technique, but with brutal, instinctive violence and overwhelming speed. He blurred forward, crimson energy propelling him. His hand shot out, grabbing the paladin's sword mid-swing. The blessed steel cracked under his grip. With a casual twist, he ripped the weapon away and slammed his palm into the man's chest.
Blood exploded outward — not killing, but repelling the attacker like a cannon shot, sending him crashing into his comrades. Holy light clashed with Kaiser's hemomancy, creating sparks of gold and crimson.
"See?" Kaiser called out, voice calm amid the chaos. "Your light burns, but my blood answers. I protect what's mine. Right now, that includes not letting idiots burn down a perfectly good spire I'm sleeping in."
Seraphina couldn't hold back any longer. She leaped down to join him, her own sword drawn, silver hair whipping in the wind. "You are insane, Warborn."
Kaiser glanced at her, his savage grin softening into something almost affectionate — obsessive, possessive. "Maybe. But you're here anyway. That tells me something."
Lumina raised her greatsword high. "For the Eternal Sun! Purify the heretic!"
A wave of paladins charged across the bridge.
Kaiser's eyes lit with battle frenzy. Crimson blood armor began to form over his clothes — thin, flexible plates that pulsed with power. He charged forward to meet them, not retreating an inch.
The clash was glorious and terrifying.
Kaiser fought like a monster unleashed: honest, violent, and unrelenting. He didn't dodge gracefully — he powered through attacks, letting holy blades graze him only to regenerate instantly with stolen blood. His hemomancy whipped out, controlling the blood of wounded enemies to turn their own life force against them, creating shields or explosive crimson spikes.
One paladin swung at his head. Kaiser caught the blade bare-handed, blood dripping, and headbutted the man hard enough to dent the helmet. "Weak."
Another tried to flank. Kaiser spun, his leg sweeping with enough force to shatter armor and send the soldier flying off the bridge into the abyss.
Seraphina fought beside him with elegant lethality, her sword dancing in precise arcs that complemented his raw power. Their movements synced instinctively — her defending his blind spots while he smashed through the front lines.
At one point, a holy blast from Lumina nearly struck Seraphina. Kaiser appeared in a burst of crimson mist, taking the hit on his shoulder. Flesh sizzled, but he only grinned wider, the pain fueling him.
"Don't touch her," he growled, voice low and obsessive. "She's under my protection now."
Seraphina's eyes widened at the raw possessiveness, her ancient heart skipping despite herself.
Lumina pressed the attack, clashing directly with Kaiser. Their weapons — her holy greatsword versus his improvised blood blade — rang with explosive force. Sparks of gold and crimson lit the twilight.
"You fight like a beast!" Lumina shouted, breathing hard. Up close, her beauty was even more striking — flushed cheeks, determined golden eyes, full lips set in righteous fury.
Kaiser parried her strike and leaned in close during the bind, his crimson eyes locking onto hers with intense honesty.
"And you fight like someone who's never been told the truth. Your goddess uses you as a weapon. I'd use you as an equal… or more. Think about that before you throw your life away for politics dressed as faith."
For a split second, doubt flickered in Lumina's eyes. The magnetic pull of his presence — godly handsome, powerful, stupidly honest — clashed violently with her indoctrination.
She broke the bind with a burst of holy light and retreated a step. "Silence, demon!"
Kaiser didn't pursue immediately. He stood tall amid the fallen and retreating Crusaders, blood dripping from minor wounds that were already closing. His distorted smile returned as he looked at the chaos he had caused in minutes.
"Retreat, Lumina Vale. Come back when you're ready to talk like adults instead of holy zealots. Or don't. Either way, next time I won't hold back."
The Crusaders sounded the retreat, carrying their wounded. Lumina shot one last conflicted glare at Kaiser before mounting her horse and leading them back across the border.
On the Voss side, cheers erupted from the battlements. Duke Valerian watched with calculating approval.
Seraphina sheathed her sword and turned to Kaiser, breathing slightly heavier. Blood speckled her armor, but she looked exhilarated. "You charged alone into an army. You threatened a Holy Commander to her face. And somehow… you made her hesitate."
Kaiser wiped blood from his cheek, then boldly reached out and brushed a strand of silver hair from Seraphina's face, his touch lingering with possessive intent.
"Honest truth? I liked fighting beside you. Felt right. You're strong, beautiful, and you didn't flinch at my chaos. That makes you interesting. More than interesting."
He leaned closer, voice dropping. "I protect what's mine, Seraphina. Right now, I'm deciding you might become part of that."
Her crimson eyes met his, a dangerous spark of desire and challenge burning there. "You move fast, Warborn. In Nyxara, claiming a Voss daughter is no small thing."
Kaiser's savage grin widened.
"Good. I hate small things."
