The blood ritual chamber lay deep beneath Shadowveil Spire, carved directly into one of the massive living roots that anchored Nyxara to the abyss. The walls were smooth obsidian veined with pulsing crimson lines that throbbed like arteries. Floating orbs of condensed blood-light cast an eerie, intimate glow over the circular room. In the center stood a raised dais of black crystal, etched with runes that predated even the shattering of Aetherion.
Duke Valerian Voss waited there with six clan elders — ancient vampires whose wrinkled faces and glowing eyes spoke of centuries, if not millennia, of accumulated power and paranoia. They sat in high-backed thrones of bone and gold, their robes heavy with protective sigils. Lila and Elara stood guard near the entrance, tense and watchful.
Seraphina led Kaiser into the chamber. He moved with that same lazy, predatory confidence, the fine black and crimson clothes accentuating his tall, sculpted frame and godly handsome features. His midnight hair caught the crimson light, and his eyes burned like fresh blood under moonlight.
The elders' gazes locked onto him immediately. Whispers rippled through the room.
"So much raw presence…"
"His scent… it reeks of the old sovereign."
"Too perfect. Too dangerous."
Kaiser stopped at the edge of the dais and looked around with open, brutal honesty.
"Nice cave. Smells like old blood and fear. You all look like you've been sucking on lemons for a thousand years."
One elder, a gaunt woman with stringy white hair and eyes like chipped rubies, hissed. "Insolent whelp. You stand before the Voss Council and speak like a street urchin."
Kaiser shrugged, unfazed. "Honest observation. If you want me to lie and call you wise and majestic, I can try — but it'll sound fake and I'll hate myself for it. Better to keep it real."
Duke Valerian raised a hand, silencing the rising murmurs. His expression was unreadable. "Enough. We are not here for pleasantries. Kaiser Warborn, step onto the dais. The ritual will draw a sample of your blood and test it against the ancient records of the First Progenitor. If you carry even a fragment of Vaelor's essence, we will know. If you are a threat… we will deal with you accordingly."
Kaiser didn't hesitate. He walked up the steps and stood in the center of the crystal platform. "Fine. Let's do this. But fair warning — I don't like being poked and prodded. If this ritual tries to control me or drain me dry, I'll break it. And I'll tell you exactly why while I do it."
Seraphina stood just off the dais, her silver hair gleaming. She watched him with a mix of caution and growing fascination. This man feared nothing. He simply stated his truth and let the world react.
The Duke nodded to the gaunt elder. She rose and began chanting in an ancient tongue that made the air grow heavy. The runes on the dais flared to life. Crimson chains of energy rose from the crystal, wrapping gently around Kaiser's wrists and ankles — not binding him yet, but ready to restrain if needed.
A thin needle of pure blood-energy extended from the floor and pierced Kaiser's palm.
He didn't flinch. Instead, he grinned. "Tickles."
Blood welled up — not ordinary red, but a deep, glowing crimson laced with threads of gold and black. The moment it touched the crystal, the entire dais shuddered violently. The floating orbs flickered. The elders gasped as the ancient records — glowing holographic projections of runes and symbols — materialized in the air above the platform.
The symbols spun wildly, then began to align in patterns no one in the chamber had seen in recorded history.
"Impossible…" the gaunt elder whispered.
"Progenitor resonance at eighty-seven percent… rising…"
"Chaos signature… not diluted. Pure. Unstable."
Duke Valerian leaned forward, eyes wide. "The Sovereign's Mark. He carries a major fragment — perhaps even a core shard of Vaelor's will."
Kaiser felt the power surge through him. The sleeping essence inside responded to the ritual like a beast awakening. Crimson mist erupted from his body, swirling around him in chaotic patterns. His fangs lengthened. His eyes blazed brighter. For a moment, the temperature in the chamber dropped, then spiked as if the air itself was bleeding.
He laughed — low, dangerous, and filled with savage joy.
"Feels good. Like waking up after a long nap and realizing you're stronger than everyone else in the room."
One of the elders stood abruptly. "He must be contained! A being with this much raw Progenitor blood could destabilize the entire Voss Clan. He will attract every rival house, every crusader from Aurelia, every Voidborn scavenger. We cannot allow an uncontrolled variable like this to roam free!"
The crimson chains tightened around Kaiser's limbs.
His expression shifted instantly from amusement to cold, violent intensity. The chaotic hunger that defined him flared.
"Bad move."
Power exploded outward.
The chains shattered like glass. The dais cracked beneath his feet. Crimson energy lashed out in controlled bursts, knocking the elders back into their thrones without killing them — a deliberate show of restraint mixed with overwhelming force.
Kaiser stepped down from the broken platform, his voice calm but carrying an edge that made the air vibrate.
"Listen carefully, because I'm only saying this once. I don't belong to anyone. Not your clan, not your empire, not your dead Progenitor ghost. I do what I think is right. Right now, that means I'm willing to work with you if it benefits me. But the moment you try to chain me, cage me, or use me as a tool…"
His crimson eyes swept the room, lingering for a moment on Seraphina, who watched with wide eyes and parted lips.
"…I'll destroy everything in my path and tell you exactly how stupid the attempt was while I do it. I protect what's mine. I claim what I want. Simple. Honest. No negotiations on that."
The chamber fell deathly silent.
Duke Valerian slowly rose, brushing dust from his robes. Instead of anger, a calculating respect gleamed in his eyes.
"You are indeed Vaelor's echo… but wilder. More honest. More dangerous because you refuse to play the old games." He turned to the elders. "We will not contain him. We will offer alliance. Kaiser Warborn will remain under the Voss banner as an honored guest — with full autonomy. In return, he will assist us against the growing threats: the Aurelian Crusaders pushing into our borders and the Voidborn incursions near the root-bridges."
He looked directly at Kaiser. "Does that suit your… honest nature?"
Kaiser rolled his shoulders, the surge of power settling back into his veins. He glanced at Seraphina again, his gaze possessive and intense.
"It does. For now. But remember — if I decide someone here is mine, I won't ask permission."
His eyes locked onto Seraphina's as he said it.
She met his stare without flinching, though a faint flush colored her pale cheeks. The ancient blood in her veins sang in response to his raw, unfiltered claim.
The gaunt elder muttered bitterly, "This will bring war to our gates…"
Kaiser grinned savagely. "Good. I was getting bored already."
As the ritual chamber emptied, Seraphina approached him quietly while the others filed out.
"You just threatened the entire Voss Council and walked away with more freedom than most nobles enjoy," she said softly. "Are you always this reckless?"
Kaiser turned to her, stepping close enough that their bodies nearly touched. His voice dropped to that deep, honest timbre.
"Reckless? No. Honest. I want power. I want this world to bend. And right now, I want to know what it feels like to have a woman like you standing at my side — not as a tool, not as a prize, but because you choose it. Because you see the same chaos in me that calls to you."
Seraphina's breath caught. For centuries she had played the game of court and blood politics with cold precision. This man shattered every rule with a smile and a brutal truth.
She reached up, tracing a finger along his sharp jawline for the briefest moment.
"You are going to be the death of me, Kaiser Warborn… or the beginning of something far more dangerous."
Kaiser's distorted, savage grin returned.
"Both sound fun."
Outside the chamber, distant horns began to sound — warning signals from the spire's outer walls.
A servant rushed in, breathless. "My lord! Scouts report Aurelian Crusaders crossing the border root-bridge. They carry holy light artifacts. They're heading straight for Shadowveil territory!"
Duke Valerian's expression hardened. "It seems the test is over. The real game begins."
Kaiser's eyes lit with chaotic excitement. He looked at Seraphina, then at the Duke.
"Perfect timing. Let's go introduce ourselves."
He strode toward the exit, power crackling faintly around him.
