Chapter 99 - Chapter 99: The Lovers’ Grand Operation

After leaving the battle arena where they had parted ways with Lorelei on Mandarin Island, Ash and his group arrived at another bustling city on the island, Victorian Town. The city was filled with a romantic seaside atmosphere. Both sides of the streets were lined with blooming tropical flowers, and the air carried a faint mix of floral fragrance and the salty scent of the sea.

As they were strolling along the street, a girl with short brown hair hurriedly stopped them. In her arms, she held a Nidoran♀ that looked unusually downcast.

"Excuse me, have you seen a Nidoran♂? My Nidoran♀… it seems like something's been bothering it. It's been listless all day," the girl said anxiously. Her name was Emily, and she gently stroked the Nidoran♀ in her arms.

Ash's Aura ability keenly sensed the longing and sadness radiating from the Nidoran♀. Just as he was about to speak, a boy wearing a cap came running from another direction, panting as he asked, "Hello! Have you seen a Nidoran♀? I don't know what's wrong with my Nidoran♂. It keeps staring in this direction and has no energy for training."

The boy was named Ralph, and beside him stood a Nidoran♂ that looked equally restless.

Strangely, the moment Ralph's Nidoran♂ saw the Nidoran♀ in Emily's arms, its eyes lit up instantly, letting out a joyful cry.

The Nidoran♀ leapt down from Emily's arms and ran quickly to the Nidoran♂. The two Pokémon affectionately rubbed their cheeks together, chirping happily. Anyone could see the deep bond between them.

However, in stark contrast to the harmony between the Pokémon was the attitude of their Trainers.

"So it's your Nidoran♂!" Emily put her hands on her hips, glaring angrily at Ralph. "Did you tell it to bother my Nidoran♀?"

"What are you talking about!" Ralph shot back without backing down. "It was your Nidoran♀ that lured my Nidoran♂! It's been so distracted it can't even focus on training!"

"What did you say?! How can you be so unreasonable!"

"You're the unreasonable one!"

The two Trainers began arguing loudly in the middle of the street, while at their feet, the Nidoran♂ and Nidoran♀ looked at their respective Trainers, then at each other, their eyes filled with confusion and sadness.

"Oh no… how did things turn out like this…" Misty looked at the pitiful pair of Nidoran, forced apart, then at the two Trainers arguing so fiercely. As a girl, her longing for beautiful love was deeply stirred. "They're clearly in love, so why are their Trainers trying to stop them? That's just too cruel!"

She turned to Ash and Tracey, determination shining in her eyes. "We can't just ignore this! We have to find a way to make Miss Emily and Mr. Ralph reconcile, so Nidoran♂ and Nidoran♀ can be together!"

Tracey adjusted his cap, looking a bit troubled. "But… their conflict seems pretty serious. As outsiders, it'll be hard for us to intervene."

Ash looked at Misty's passionate and resolute expression, then at the trembling Nidoran pair clinging to each other because of their Trainers' argument. Something stirred within him.

Misty's pure desire to bring happiness to others warmed his heart.

He thought of the bonds he shared with his own Pokémon and understood how precious such genuine emotions were.

"Misty's right," Ash said, his voice calm yet reassuring. "Since we've come across this, we can't just stand by. Trying to persuade them directly probably won't work. We need a plan… something that makes them realize the problem themselves."

Misty looked at him in surprise. "Ash, you're willing to help?"

"Yeah." Ash nodded, a thoughtful smile appearing on his lips. "I've got an idea, but I'll need everyone's cooperation."

Ash pulled Misty and Tracey aside and quietly explained his plan.

With his keen observation, he had already picked up several details from their earlier argument and their appearances, Emily's gardening gloves and Ralph's athletic knee pads.

"Miss Emily seems to love flowers, while Mr. Ralph is focused on training. So here's what we can do…" Ash carefully laid out his strategy, considering each of their personalities and how they might react at every step.

Misty and Tracey listened to Ash's meticulous plan, their eyes filled with amazement.

Misty, in particular, felt something stir in her heart. As she watched Ash seriously analyzing and planning, she felt that at this moment, he radiated a kind of calm confidence and wisdom that was different from his usual battle-focused self, something that made her feel truly at ease.

The plan was set into motion.

First, Tracey stepped in. Using his identity as a Pokémon watcher, he separately approached Emily and Ralph, cleverly informing them that he had spotted the Pokémon they were searching for in a place to the west of the city called the "Lovers' Garden," a name Ash had come up with on the spot. He also hinted that the environment there was beautiful and perfect for helping Pokémon relax.

At the same time, Misty brought the Nidoran♂ and Nidoran♀ ahead of time to a small garden surrounded by flowers, complete with an elegant fountain, and patiently comforted them.

Ash took charge of the overall coordination. Using his Aura ability, he monitored the movements of the two Trainers from a distance and directed Misty and Tracey through a walkie talkie they had just purchased, making small adjustments to the plan.

Although Emily and Ralph were somewhat skeptical, their concern for their Pokémon led them to arrive at the garden one after the other.

The moment they arrived, they saw the Nidoran♂ and Nidoran♀ nestled closely together among the flowers. Under the glow of the setting sun and surrounded by blossoms, the scene was as beautiful as something out of a fairy tale.

Instinctively, both of them were about to rush forward and separate the pair. But at that moment, Misty, hidden nearby, followed Ash's instructions and had Togepi "accidentally" use Metronome once. By sheer luck, it turned into Petal Dance.

Countless pink petals drifted down like snow, gently falling over the Nidoran♂, Nidoran♀, and even Emily and Ralph.

Right on cue, Tracey appeared in the role of an "old scholar," speaking in a weathered tone, "Young Trainers, take a good look at your Pokémon. The happiness in their eyes is so real. The bond between Trainer and Pokémon is not just about becoming stronger. More importantly, it is about understanding and respecting their feelings. Forcibly separating two hearts drawn to each other will only bring misfortune…"

These words, combined with the sight of petals dancing in the air and the Pokémon leaning against each other, deeply moved Emily and Ralph.

They watched their Pokémon, so happy and content in the shower of blossoms, and then recalled how they had been depressed and listless when separated. Their hearts began to waver.

Seizing the moment, Ash used a hidden speaker he had set up beforehand to play a gentle, heartwarming piece of music, pushing the atmosphere to its peak.

Emily's eyes grew moist as she spoke softly, "Maybe… maybe we were really wrong. My Nidoran♀ hasn't been this happy in a long time."

Ralph let go of his stubbornness and sighed. "Mine too… it's always been distracted during training. Turns out it was thinking about your Nidoran♀."

The tension between them gradually faded, replaced by a hint of awkwardness and self reflection.

At that moment, Ash, Misty, and Tracey "happened" to appear.

Seeing the softened atmosphere, Ash smiled and said, "Look at them. They're perfect together. Isn't seeing your Pokémon happy also a Trainer's achievement?"

Emily and Ralph exchanged glances before finally breaking into relieved smiles.

"I'm sorry. I had a bad attitude earlier," Emily apologized first.

"I was at fault too. I was too stubborn," Ralph admitted, scratching his head sheepishly.

They walked toward each other, and toward their Pokémon.

Seeing their Trainers reconcile, the Nidoran♂ and Nidoran♀ cried out happily, each nuzzling their respective Trainers.

Watching this heartwarming scene, Misty let out a long sigh of relief, a sweet and satisfied smile spreading across her face.

She turned to look at Ash beside her. The golden light of the sunset fell on him, outlining his clear and confident figure.

Thinking about his brilliant plan, his keen understanding of people, and the gentle kindness he showed in bringing happiness to others, Misty felt her heartbeat quicken uncontrollably, her cheeks warming slightly.

A faint, sweet feeling, like a newly sprouting vine, quietly spread through her heart.

"Ash… thank you," Misty said softly, a hint of shyness in her voice.

Ash turned to meet her sparkling eyes and laughed brightly. "No problem. I'm just glad I could help."

He did not notice the subtle change in Misty's feelings, but his smile shone like sunlight, warming her heart.

The evening breeze of Victorian Town, carrying the scent of flowers and the sea, seemed to grow even gentler.

The happiness of the Nidoran♂ and Nidoran♀, along with the budding emotions in the hearts of a boy and a girl, remained in that beautiful dusk.

This chapter serves to develop the relationship between Ash and Misty, so it naturally differs somewhat from the original story.
