Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Boy Who Laughed Too Loud

Elian was thirteen years old.

His hair was a messy shade of violet that fell just over his eyebrows. His eyes were the same vibrant violet, big and bright, as if someone had lit a lantern inside them.

On Crystal Island — a speck of land so small it didn't even appear on most maps — no one took him seriously. The fishermen called him "the kid who laughs all the time." The old ladies said he was "the one who sings to the nets." The other children simply muttered, "He's weird."

But Elian didn't mind. Laughing was free. And on this tiny island, he didn't have much else.

No parents. No money. Just a leaky wooden shack that dripped whenever it rained, and a torn net he repaired every morning while sitting on a rock with his feet in the water.

Elian laughed because it was the only thing that cost nothing. He fished, sold two or three fish when he could, and gave the rest away. "For good vibes," he would say, winking.

That morning, the sun was beating down on the beach. Elian sat on a rock, the torn net draped across his knees. He hummed softly, as always:

"Net, net, why're you torn?

You saw a shark? Or are you just in love with a crab?"

He burst out laughing so loudly that the seagulls scattered into the sky. Then he tried his thing — a strange little jump, arms flapping like wings, mouth stretched into a wide "O." He wanted to fly, just like in his dreams. But he landed hard, butt-first in the sand.

"Ouch!"

He stood up, rubbing his backside, and pulled an exaggerated face — eyes rolling, tongue sticking out, shoulders slumping like a deflated balloon.

"Come on, Elian… you're not a bird yet? Or a clown? Or… some kind of magic thing?"

He didn't even know what to call it. In his dreams he jumped impossibly high, stretched like chewing gum, and made things fall from the sky. But in real life? Nothing happened. Just sore muscles, a crack in his back, and a forced laugh to hide the disappointment.

"Pff… I really need to stop dreaming."

He let out a dramatic sigh, a puff of breath visible in the warm air. Then he gazed out at the sea, eyes still shining with hope.

"One day… I'll have something. A real power. I won't just be… me."

He picked up the net and tried a small hop. He missed, tripped over a shell, rolled like a ball, and ended up face-down in the sand.

"Haha! Even the beach is trolling me!"

As he got up and brushed himself off, something caught his eye — a hidden cave behind some rocks. Elian narrowed his violet eyes.

"A secret cave? Smells like adventure… or crabs. Probably both."

He ran toward it, arms windmilling, legs springing, kicking up a small cloud of sand. When he reached the entrance, he stopped dead.

There, half-buried in shells, was an old, rusty television. Its black screen flickered with a faint violet light, like an eye slowly blinking.

Elian tilted his head.

"What… is that? A treasure chest? A magic lantern?"

He stepped closer and touched the screen. It buzzed under his fingers. A cheerful, distant voice echoed out:

"Welcome, kid! Ready for the show?"

Elian stepped back, then burst into laughter.

"Haha! If that's a joke, it's a good one!"

He sat down right there on the sand, too curious to leave. The screen slowly brightened, showing wild images — talking animals, impossible falls, hammers dropping from the sky. Elian's mouth fell open.

"Is this… people playing? Or living dreams?"

He stayed there, eyes glued to the screen. One hour passed. Then two. He didn't move. Without realizing it, he started copying the movements: stretching his arms (nothing happened), scrunching his face so his eyes popped out (still nothing), trying bouncy jumps (he just fell).

But the violet light kept growing, gently wrapping around the cave like a soft blanket. It felt as if the pictures were slowly seeping into him, drop by drop.

He whispered in awe, "This… is magic."

He remained until the sun began to set. No powers had appeared yet. Not really.

Just a boy watching, laughing, dreaming… and, without knowing it, about to become the funniest pirate the seas had ever seen.

The violet light from the television pulsed stronger, like a heart beating faster. Elian felt a shiver start at the tips of his fingers, travel up his arms, and spread through his whole body.

At first, it was almost nothing. His violet hair stood up slightly, as if charged with static. He laughed softly.

"Haha, is that static electricity?"

Five minutes later, his arms stretched on their own—just far enough to grab an imaginary bubble in the air.

"Wow…"

Ten minutes after that, he jumped. Instead of landing hard, he floated for two whole seconds. His eyes shone like headlights.

"I… I'm flying?"

One hour passed. The television hummed, the images flashing faster and faster—explosions of color, talking animals, impossible falls, hammers dropping from the sky. Elian copied them without realizing it. His legs became elastic. He bounced. He blew, and a light wind made the sand dance around him.

Two hours. He stood tall, arms outstretched. He stretched his neck to look behind himself. He snapped his fingers—a small tree suddenly sprouted from the sandy ground. He blew again, and a mini-tornado spun the seashells like confetti.

"I… I can do anything?"

His laughter burst out, huge and joyful. The entire cave trembled.

Then came the final flash.

The television erupted in a blinding white burst.

Bugs Bunny landed on his feet, carrot in hand. He looked around, confused.

"Hey, what is this place? I was digging a tunnel, and poof…"

SpongeBob bounced right beside him, eyes wide.

"Wow! Dry air! And a purple kid!"

Popeye crossed his arms, looking grumpy.

"Argh! Where's my sea? I'm hungry!"

Tom grabbed Jerry by the tail without thinking. Jerry slipped away immediately. They started chasing each other again as if nothing had happened. Road Runner zigzagged around Elian with a loud "Beep beep!" Droopy simply sat down on the ground and sighed.

"Oh. A human. And sand. Great."

Elian stood there with his mouth open, heart racing.

"You… you came out! But you don't know me?"

Bugs shrugged, taking a bite of his carrot.

"Surprised? I've seen weirder. But yeah, this isn't my burrow."

The six characters looked at each other, a little lost, a little curious. Elian could feel that he had stolen their "thing." To them, he was simply a strange kid with violet hair.

The television slowly went dark and silent again. Elian stepped out of the cave, power still buzzing in his veins. The six cartoon characters followed him at a distance, without another word.

For the first time in his life, he wasn't alone.

The television screen slowly went dark. Elian stepped out of the cave, barefoot on the still-warm sand. The sun hung low on the horizon, painting everything in soft orange light, and the air smelled of salt and freedom.

He turned toward the six—no, seven—figures following him at a distance. Bugs Bunny, SpongeBob, Popeye, Tom and Jerry (who were already chasing each other again), Road Runner (zigzagging nonstop), and Droopy (walking slowly with his usual bored expression).

Elian planted his hands on his hips, a huge smile lighting up his face. He wasn't afraid. Not even a little. Just pure excitement sparkling in his violet eyes.

"Hey! All of you!" he called out in a clear, cheerful voice. "You don't seem to know where you are, right? Well, neither do I, but I don't care at all!"

He took a step forward, arms wide open.

"We could have fun together! Explore the world, sail the seas, discover islands, pull off huge pranks, find treasures… That would be awesome, wouldn't it? Let's form a crew! A real pirate crew that laughs all the time!"

Bugs Bunny raised an eyebrow, carrot still in his mouth.

"A crew? With you?"

SpongeBob bounced in place, eyes sparkling.

"A crew? With adventures and laughs? I'm in!"

Popeye grunted, but a small smile appeared under his pipe.

"Argh… If there's fighting and food, count me in."

Tom and Jerry paused for a second, glanced at each other, then went right back to chasing each other as if nothing had happened. Road Runner let out a "Beep beep!" that almost sounded like agreement. Droopy sighed heavily, but he slowly stood up.

"Well… I'm not staying here alone."

Elian burst out laughing, a bright and contagious laugh.

"Perfect! So what do we start with? A hidden island? A storm? A treasure under the sea? I can grow a boat if you want!"

The seven looked at him—slightly surprised, slightly amused. Not quite friends yet, but already starting to feel like a team. Elian felt the sea breeze in his violet hair. He was ready.

And just like that, without another word, the crew headed toward the sea. The sun was setting behind them, violet like his eyes.
